Thank you! Very helpful. Got my parts. The internal GPS is not usable if used with ADSB modules. While waiting for better solutions, I will buy an external gps

What if the pigtails dont go on the SDRs very easily? Mine were very tight. I was able to get them on, but it took some force and a little wiggling. I checked to make sure the pins were straight beforehand, too. It seems to work okay, though I haven't had it up in the plane yet. I am just worried something is not right or may be damaged and will fail prematurely.

I think the barbs from your first antenna washer should go against the plastic. That would really help the rotational issue. Then add the lock washer and nut. Looks like you put the smooth side of the first washer against the plastic.

so question with regards to the AHRS what is the propper way to set this up, mount to the window and then turn it on, or do I have to mount it up, turn it on and then goto the webpage to calibrate it level for each flight ?

Can you set the GPS orientation by going to the settings menu? I want to position/mount my Stratux on a side window so the heading and AHRS are displayed properly.

Is there software that will run on a laptop or Android tablet for those of us who don't have an iPad or Raspberry Pi?

I prefer to power it off of ships power. And not fool with battery packs. I guess the issue then is to find the right cable to a USB power source. Also when first setting it up, can send an image to a monitor to see if all components are loading without error? I've read some have had to remove the AHARS due to loading errors. Also do the antennas need to be vertical or do they work horizontally as well?

I know early on there was some growing pains with the original stratusX. Is the system pretty stable now? I am a little hesitant to switch from my Appareo Stratus 1s.

It's stable now. Even AHRS works natively with ForeFlight. You can build your own or I sell assembled and tested units on www.CrewDogElectronics.com

Can this work in the car with ForeFlight, but be able to receive the radar via the cell connection. I see that part does not work on the ground

I heard most will not pick up until you get in the air around 100-200feet for the antennas to read you, the satellites will also see you and communicate with each other, for a more accurate target.

The battery pack is unavailable from Amazon.com with no known availability date. Is there another battery that you recommend? The larger EasyAcc (10000 MAH) can't be charged while it is being used and doesn't appear to have an integrated cable.

Rodney Brown if you go to monoprice.com you’ll find a large selection of high capacity batteries that have or greatly exceed the requirements and will charge while powering the unit. There are often sales and they sell cables of any length required for the power cable and charging cord.

I have had the integrated USB power connector on the Raspberry Pi board become intermittent twice in the past year (requiring board replacement)... is that a more stable way to provide power to the board? This is getting too expensive, and I may have to seek an alternative ADS-B device.

If I am assuming correctly that the board replacement is due to repeated stress from plugging and unplugging the battery with every use, consider these options... Something like a male micro to female USB switch allows you to keep the Stratux and battery plugged into each other at all times: www.amazon.com/Onite-Micro-Female-raspberry-Switch/dp/B07FCJ7GJZ/ Alternatively... ...use a battery that allows you to disconnect from the battery, rather than using the battery shown in this video, or... ...don't use a battery. String a USB cable from the Stratux to the vehicle's USB output ports (if equipped) or to the vehicle's 12v cigarette port with a USB adapter installed, such as this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YXXBJ6W/ If none of these solutions work for you, consider contacting Crew Dog, the makers of this video, even if you didn't buy from them. While they probably won't support your particular device, your feedback might help them influence the manufacturer of the case to redesign the case in a way where wiggling the cable won't have such a detrimental effect. They might also have other tips to try.

I can’t buy the AHRS thing via Amazon, I am a prime member too. Won’t let it be sold to Australia? I have managed to get everything else though.. So I guess it will just have to go without…

Which app would you recommend using for both the ahrs and ads-b? As a side note I ordered everything you listed but did not get the heat sinks. Were they suppose to come with the PI board?

Kevin Straus ForeFlight is good but you have to pay for it, for a cheaper option check out fltplan

While I haven't looked through the forks on the Stratux Github account to confirm the following claim, according to others the answer is, "Pi4 will not work out of the box." It CAN work (and scuttlebutt claims there are people working on it) if you make changes to the software, but there is no reason for the Stratux devs or Crew Dog to bother support any official Pi4 revision because the components needed by pilots won't take advantage of Pi4's upgraded features. Instead, the Pi4 will just use up the battery faster. There is no advantage to using a Pi4 at this time, unless you just happen to have one lying around.

I notice it says you can't use 3b+.... Why is that?

All I am getting is a red light. The fan is not running and the green light never flashes. I know my power source is good because it runs my other stratux with no problem. Any ideas?

ilikeplanes Make sure you don’t have the Raspberry Pie b plus. I was sent a b plus and that is what messed me up

The stratux GitHub says it won’t unless you compile the software yourself. I’m working on that myself now and for the Pi 4

Are the heat sinks pressed in or do they require soldering?

They stick on with double sided tape.

Double sided tape? Yikes......not much thermal transfer going on there....I guess it’s better than nothing. I would use proper thermal paste to ensure the chip doesn’t fail prematurely.
