Great video, I love the idea of using inserts. I have a question, what are your thoughts on attaching to both legs and the tabletop a crossbar for regidity? I am building my first table, and I am afraid it may get wobbly. Thanks!

I’ve done that as well in the past! Any time you are attaching metal to wood the inserts are a great option to keep in mind.

We love Honey the mini poodle! We have a black pug named Pepper but we call him Sargent Pepper is such a pain in the ass. He thinks he's about 100lbs and not 20lbs!

Can I ask why you used threaded inserts rather than just screwing into timber? Also do you need to not tighten too much or it won't allow movement?

Using the inserts allows you to use a larger fastener as well as giving more of a bite in the wood. Correct, you don’t want to over tighten or you can impact the wood movement.

Liked your video! Just a couple questions. What size threaded inserts did you use and what size bit did you use to drill the pilot holes? Thanks!

The inserts I usually use accept a 1/4 bolt. The pilot hole for the insert depends on the insert it’s self. Typically I use a 3/8” bit. But check your insert first, you want the bit just slightly smaller than the teeth on the insert.

First, we had a dachshund who loved Dairy Queen cones. But she’d eat them so fast she’d get bloated and spend the rest of the day lying tipped over on the hot asphalt sleeping it off! She was the best. Thanks for this video. I’m trying to install legs for the first time. What are the inserts you used? Size? What are they called? I got I need to use a 5/16” Drill bit, but I didn’t catch what size inserts I need or what the bolts and washers are. I’m a newbie at this so any help would be appreciated . Thanks!

I always use the 1/4 inch inserts and bolts! Seems to be the best balance of strength but not too bulky.

Also, get you some T handle hex bits. Those cheapo allen wrenches are the worst

I was putting the insert in and then when I was screwing my legs the wood broke :( but why? did I pick the wrong wood? 🥺

Could be a few different reasons. If the bolts were too long it could have put pressure on the back side of the insert. If the hole for the insert was undersized it could have put added pressure on the wood around it. Or there could have been an unseen hairline crack that became visible under pressure. Sorry that happened! That’s a bummer.

my tables now woobles from side to side, what does it mean?

Could be a lot of reason. Floor unlevel, legs uneven, or top is slightly warped. Try and find some leveling feet and use that to get the wobble out.
