Paul, first of all, love your work. I was wondering if you would do a video on finishes and how you prepare the wood and your go to finishes for different purposes, like chairs, verses tables verses cutting boards etc. thanks!

can you install these inserts into epoxy resin the same way or will the epoxy not grab it like it does in wood?

I have a question concerning the size of my project. The tabletop is 63" long x 23"wide. It's 1.25" thick, and the metal frame for the legs I am attaching is 1/8" thick. Will the 16mm bolts I purchased (along with the RampaTec M6 Threaded Inserts) have enough grab to hold the legs safely? Each leg uses 14 bolts. Are the 16mm bolts long enough, or should I go longer? Just curious... Thanks, Paul 😎
@CanadianWoodworks
@CanadianWoodworks Жыл бұрын
That's a lot of bolts per leg! But you might want to use slightly longer bolts.

Thanks for the video. It was almost exactly what I was looking for. You didn't mention how deep you pre-drilled for the insert. I'm assuming it was 30mm because that's how long the bolts are? Just want to be sure as I've never done this before!
@CanadianWoodworks
@CanadianWoodworks 3 жыл бұрын
You right, we drilled the length of the bolt less the thickness of the steel of the legs. Thanks for watching.

Just discovered your channel and loving it! The idea of using inserts is a great one. I just ordered a sit/stand kit and I plan to mount it to a desktop I am repurposing from an old desk. In tracking down the Rampa stuff, I find I have a bunch of options that I am not sure what the best options are. At the rampa site, those options are thread, Length, material+coating, Diameter and wrench size. Do you have a suggestion on those dimensions? Honestly, I would just be completely guessing and I have to think there is a good 'standard' set of selections for those options that give me the most flexibility and usefulness.

We use the m6 bolts and inserts most of the time. Lengths from 15mm up to 30mm.

Great video! Do they also make inserts like this that will install into metal as well to accept screw in table legs? I see wood ones everywhere but some tabletops are metal too!

Can the Rampa inserts be used on a poured resin table (no wood)?
@CanadianWoodworks
@CanadianWoodworks 2 жыл бұрын
Yes we have used them many times in pure epoxy resin, We suggest doing some test to get comfortable with the process, sharp drill bit is important!!

@@CanadianWoodworks I'm just about to do this tomorrow...I have the inserts, the flathead bolts...and 10mm bit...all I need to find is the hex bit!? I have a non-metric hex tool....but one size is to small and next size up is too big. For the M6 size bolt....does anyone know where the best source for a hex drill bit? I don't want to do it by hand as I think I'll have a better result getting it straight in with a drill. I live in the GTA.

Are the holes in the metal leg support slotted to allow for wood movement?
@CanadianWoodworks
@CanadianWoodworks 4 жыл бұрын
The board is not very wide, so we went with larger round holes, the bolts have a large flat head which is nice to not need a washer in this case.

@@CanadianWoodworks I have a follow-up question. I am looking at buying an 8x4 ft solid walnut table. How should the legs (metal or wood) be attached to the top to allow for enough movement? Thanks in advance.

So if you only drill as deep as the threaded insert is tall, then put the longer bolt in… doesn’t the bolt get stuck if you know what I mean; or does it keep drilling further down into the wood?
@CanadianWoodworks
@CanadianWoodworks 7 ай бұрын
Your right, if the bolt is longer you must drill a bit further.

Canadian Woodworks and Paul, I have a question. Is it necessary to use any kind of sealant or glue when screwing in these threaded inserts? I just bought a set of these for my DIY computer table project, and I just want to make sure that the inserts last as long as possible. Any thoughts ?? I had never heard of these before, so this was an excellent tutorial video. Thanks 😎
@CanadianWoodworks
@CanadianWoodworks Жыл бұрын
I personally have never used any glue / sealant when using these inserts. In my opinion not needed. Reasons for using could be if the wood they are going into is not "ideal" soft / wrong size hole. Thanks for watching glad I could help.
