For newer versions of Audacity, the Leveler is actually Distorsion > Distorsion then Distorsion Type: Leveler

Using 3 or 4 layers of noise reduction will almost certainly ruin your audio quality even with bass boost I highly recommend NOT doing this without backing up your files first to make sure you don't create a mess...

I agree...especially for vocals...Best is to highlight each breath sound and apply the above effect with very subdued settings...Have you ever listened to someone singing or speaking with no breath sounds...it sounds weird...

Really thank you! It took me 2 hours to cut out all my breathing from 1 hour podcast by marking them manually and replacing them by silence :). Masacre! I used everytime noise reduction for removing outdoor recording noise (did amazing job on waterfall sound in my podcast) now I will use it for my breathing and clicking sounds :). Thanks man, thanks so much :)!

Whenever I apply "Noise Reduction" to an entire track, it changes the quality to sounding like I recorded inside a tin can. I have yet to find someone who can address this issue.

I did what you said in this video, and the sound turned out horrible. I think I might of removed to much breath sounds that it affected the general audio and the base boost did not help. So I just took out less and did not use the bass boost and the sound was awesome.
@sentimentaloldme
@sentimentaloldme 2 жыл бұрын
I agree...I used to use Noise Removal Effect on my vocals...no matter what setting you use it deteriorates the quality of the audio file and especially vocals. There are two alternatives and they involve a bit of work especially if it's a long recording. Remember before you start... "breath sounds" are a natural sound when you record vocals...Taking a breath sound off completely sounds weird on a recording. (1) Highlight each breath sound individually and go to the Amplify effect & test what amount you want to reduce the sound & repeat for all the others. It's not difficult to do if you're recording is less than 4 or 5 minutes long. (2) The other and probably more effective is to apply the above procedure but only highlight each breath sound you want want the effect to apply to.. I've been using Audacity for over ten years...The best & most important effect right now is Loudness Normalization (LUFS) which should be applied when all other effects have been done. This effect ensures that your Audio is at the correct levels when you upload to KZfaq. I use -14dB LUFS setting. You can check your audio levels afterwards on KZfaq by right clicking on the video and going to "Stats For Nerds"..and going to the third column down. This will tell you how much your levels have been reduced by KZfaq or should be increased to get to get the levels right. Remember KZfaq will decrease your audio to their standard levels no matter how much you amplify on Audacity but will *NOT* increase the levels if the audio is too low.

After watching this video and trying it, I noticed that Audacity has the shortcut up top to Repeat Noise Reduction after having done it the first time. So you can just do that on the part that's highlighted - if you're reducing one noise at a time.

You can also use keyboard shortcuts as well to speed it up. But doing that throughout a very long audio makes fingers tired :)

It is NOT the correct method to remove "unwanted" breath. Every time the noise reduction process is repeated, the quality of the audio will be affected. I usually keep it mellow. This will actually give the listener a good feeling, especially if it is a female voice.
@SoComposed

Remember that every time you use the Noise Reduction in Audacity, you are running processing over your whole track (and degrading the audio each time) that much more.
