What can be done to resolve the issue of the photo getting cropped not when posted to the feed but on your profile. Every time I post a picture, when I view my profile it gets cropped severely and the photos can look completely different. Most digital cameras shoot in 4:3 and if a photographer does not want to add a boarder to their image, they'll crop it to 4:5 prior to exporting their images. That way they know it'll fit in the Instagram limitations.

Sorry, I just saw your comment. !) I'm not sure about how the InShot app works on Android phones 2) Yes, in either ratio you will have a blurred or solid color border/frame. That still is the case. Its why I post the original image (first) and then the InSHot version of my image (second) on Instagram together as a carousal post 3) Yes, if you press 'no frame' it goes back to its original 2:3 aspect ratio and thus IG will crop it to 4:5 ratio. To avoid cropping you have to use either a white (colored) border/frame or a blurry one after you choose the aspect ratio. No way around the framing issue. But at least the entire photo gets displayed inside the 4:5 on IG. I do this all the time on my IG posts. I choose a white background at 4:5 ratio. Then I use the zoom function (zoom out) to create white borders around the photos I like. Download and post. I hope this helps in any way.

@@RobertSilverPhotography Thank you for your reply. 🙏 In the intervening time, I have played around with the 'Canvass' frame options, and these do appear to provide a solution in terms of being able to fix image resolution at 4:5, prior to posting on IG.

I use an app called, 'InShot' to crop the photo. Then I download the pic to my phone and then upload it to IG.

I would recommend revisiting the section of when I use the InShot mobile app to adjust the aspect ratio of my image. Trust me, it works. Check out my IG profile. I use the tip I shared my self everyday to post my photos. instagram.com/robertsilverphotography

I never had an issue with posting landscapes photos. There is a button right before your post an image that allows you to resize landscapes photos to fit in your post. The icon that looks like two arrows pointing away from each other.

You could simply use Adobe Lightroom and crop at a 4:5 aspect ratio and you should be good. That’s the ratio for Instagram portrait posts.

If you want to avoid cropping, then make sure to shoot your photo wider than usual to compensate for the crop the Instagram 'will' apply.

Hi, once you adjusted your image in the InShot app, there is a download/share icon button on the upper right corner. Once you press that the image will be automatically downloaded to your phone. it will also then give you the option to share directly to your social platforms. Hope that helps.

Once you created the 4:5 aspect ratio inside InShot did you notice the white borders create on the left/right side of your image? That would give you an example of how the final images will be posted/viewed on IG. Instagram vertical photos are at a 4:5 aspect ratio so you shouldn't have an issue. If you look at the images I on my instagram I do the same thin for all my vertical image posts - instagram.com/robertsilverphotography

Sorry for the delayed response. Did you show the aspect ratio inside of InShot? It automatically fits the image inside the chosen ratio - for Instagram at 3:4 ratio. Personally, I then use the frame tool to create borders on all 4 sides of the image. and then I post that along with the 2nd image as a carousel with the original image first. Regardless, you'll have borders of some kind using the app. But you can post the entire size of your image on IG. I hope this helps in any way.

You could, a viable option. But I rather capture an image you using the aspect ratio that covers the entire size of the sensor - getting the full potential of size. Then crop in post depending on the how I plan to use the image. If I want to print a photo I limit myself have the image in a 4:5 aspect ratio for 4x6, 12X18, 24z36 photo prints. Unfortunately, there is no workaround for that issue. In the app you can change the color of the background. There is an option for you to use the image itself as a backdrop but have it blurred out. After that, we need to complain to Instagram, lol.

I would recommend using the app to create crop of your image using the 1:1 (square) aspect ratio to use as the first image in your carousal (multiple) photos post. THat will allow you to control how its being cropped. THus, giving you the best chance to control the design of your profile grid. Hope that helps in anyway.

Have you tried to use the InShot mobile app I mentioned? I gave some recommendations but at the end of the day, some issues that we all face is an Instagram thing - a problem they need to fix.

Hi Chris, Instagram only allows the three aspect ratios that I mentioned in the video. The best way I would recommend is cropping your photo in Lightroom (or the Lightroom Mobile app) at either the 4:5 (for vertical photos) or 1:1 aspect ratio before uploading to Instagram. I wish Instagram would get rid of the restriction! Hope this helps in any way.

When you upload the image to InShot, press CANVAS - select the ratio you want - adjust with ZOOM. The image will NOT be cropped when you export and then post it.

As I mentioned, if you add the bars while using the 4:5 aspect ratio you'll be able to post your entire photo. I do it all the time on my Instagram profile. instagram.com/robertsilverphotography

I hear what you're saying but that's what your website is for. It's the only platform that's optimized to display all the details of your high-res images. Any and all social media platforms will compress your photos. You can't get around that fact.

The InShot app is still free. I'm still using it and never had to pay for it. You pay if you want access to the extra features.

I cant agree more. Now they are now a video content creation/sharing platform. It just happens that you can post photos on it. Its best to think of it that way. Their algorithm heavily bias toward REELS/

It doesn't mean you have to press or purchase anything from the ads, lol.

Now that its 2023, it doesn't look hopeful they will ever.
