Hello and welcome, thanks for visiting Rider Guider here on KZfaq!
Back to core business on Rider Guider.
Here's one of the very best motorcycling tips you'll get, right here in this content brought to you with the assistance of an idiot car driver. Where would I be without oblivious people in their cages giving me great opportunities to showcase defensive riding tips. Here I show an old video of a practically unavoidable rear ender, and a very recent incident that shows just how much we have to be aware of the unexpected. We then break it down to show you how to avoid idiot car drivers.

This is such a great breakdown of what to look out for. The domino effect is so relevant. That Corolla driver needs a proper word in her ear. Can’t believe you didn’t do her door panel with your boot!!! 😮

Just as the taillight assembly is about to go out of frame you can see the indicator flash, and the indicator light on the mirror flashes a couple of times too. Clearly, she didn't give enough warning or check her blind-spot. Riders will get caught out from time to time, but I am amazed by the number of videos I have seen of riders who can see something is about to happen and continue to ride into the incident!

in a world were very few are willing to admit they are remotely at fault, it's very refreshing to see a rider acknowledge that whilst the driver was in the wrong, more awareness on your part could have avoided it. very nice to see you not intimidating the driver afterwards like so many others would. checked out your vid on the drystar boots and came across this. subscriber gained 👍

Great video! Ride assuming that you are invisible ... it really helps ... it removes the anger-response on near-misses + constantly makes you adjust your spacing and lane position.

ABSOLUTELY mate! Thank you. I reckon if I was actually invisible I'd still manage to survive.

I really love these safety vids. The important thing is to stay cool, calm, and focused regardless of heated situations and ignore any drivers that want confrontation. A tinted visor is great for that lol, regardless its the riders responsibility to keep safe, I dont wanna put my life into a strangers hands on the road. Be Active not passive. Had a suspicion seen the red car, I tend to accelerate past cars that will be beside me or brake. I personally would install a loud lorry horn on my bike for that scenario.

Steve, hahahha yes I love a dark visor for the intimidatory stare! Same here re accelerating past (normally) ... adjust my pace and create space. THANKS mate.

Great stuff. The Corolla Driver needs the blind spot indicator to be hooked up to a cattle prod, aimed at her temple 😆 - certainly was not the indicator. But you're absolutely right - and when I started riding, Russ (Roadcraft Nottingham) taught me the lesson I've remembered ever since, when he glibly suggested that every accident is the rider's fault. What he meant, of course, is they should/could have anticipated what was going to happen. He even gave 2 recent examples of hysterical "cager tried to kill me" uploads people had done and clearly showed what signs they had missed. Of course he completely ruined my channel 'cos I could no longer upload "near miss" videos 🤣as I was able to spot the signs, and avoid many potential dangers 🙂

Hahaha. Yes Russ is a brilliant instructor! I’ve only seen his channel, not had the pleasure of meeting him in person. I often have similar debates with riders on ‘fault’ and cause … certainly creates thought provocation which is good 👍🏼 CHEERS matey 😊

So glad I watched this now before heading out as I got a shout out! Thank you Neil. 👍 You know I watched that bit twice and still missed the pickups turn signal. Glad you pointed out the after effects of riding whilst still steaming mad from her stupidity. Fortunately like you I rarely suffer from close calls and near misses, I'm not really any good I'm just very lucky! 😉😁😂😂🤣🤣 All the best to you both. By the way do you think it's about time to do more motorcycle safety tips and general road safety videos, even just simple short ones for the less experienced riders out there. I see you are so close to 3K subs now and would like to see those numbers even higher. 🏍👍😁😁

Haha HELLO G. Yes mate I've decided to go back to my roots a little and do some more like this. It's where my passion lies to be honest. Just about at 3K ... might happen overnight. THANKS matey.

@@TheRiderGuider Hopefully number will go up by one more as I met a nice Aussie chap on his motorbike on Thursday called Brad. He's done the opposite move and has now settled in Buxton. So of course I pointed out my hat and put him on to you! He is taking his bike test next week. He even works in one of the quarries where we load sometimes. Was going to say about small world, but one week earlier I was getting the bike tested and next one in is a young chap on a VFR, of course you get talking and he works for another local quarry and it turned out that I've either worked with, know, or been to school with most of his relations, the older ones of course! Ride safe and happy as always.

One problem with the Corolla driver (and many others) is tunnel vision and zero situational awareness. Every driver should constantly be aware of what other traffic is around them... check your mirrors... don't just fixate on what's in front of you. Adelaide drivers are pretty shit though....

They are indeed Rob, I wonder if she would have argued the fact that she indicated and therefore had the right to change lanes 😆

@@TheRiderGuider I've seen some riders do the stupid thing after getting angry by smashing that car's mirror... which in turn now puts more people in danger. So anyway... did the driver stop and check you were OK on the first incident at the Military rd/ Woolnough Rd?

@@robdotcom71 YEH mate they were very much apologetic. I pointed out their inability to be driving safely, and asked what they thought the stop sign actually meant! There ended up being about $1500 damage to my bike. Their insurance covered it all and offered me a loan bike. Could have been a lot worse.

@@robdotcom71 is that junction now a give way rather than a stop? I think they changed it recently.

It is a constant battle, but I do feel being able to predict behavior is key and just knowing where to position yourself. It requires constant attention, and nobody is 100% perfect all the time. It's just the way it is. Excellent video with excellent examples, glad you lived through them all!
