When you're first transitioning to the ketogenic diet, you'll probably see a lot of people talk about the keto flu, and it's probably the biggest reason why people don't start. There's two things that are causing the keto flu. One, is that transition of carbohydrates where your body's just inefficiently, not quite creating ketones yet, so it's still in that gray area. And then the other side is, your body dumps a lot of water when you first start the keto diet. That's why people when they first start, they'll lose like seven, eight pounds in the first couple days. It's okay to lose water. You're losing inflammation, it's what you want. But the drop in that water also is a drop in electrolytes, so if you add sodium back into the mix, and keep your salt levels high while you're transitioning, you'll strongly, strongly ward off the keto flu. Because most of what you're feeling is just complete electrolyte imbalance.
When it comes down to transitioning and helping out the keto flu, I'm a huge fan of just, like, sipping on bone broth. Just have it with your meals. It tastes good, it's easy, and it also, it makes it so that in my opinion you can get into keto faster, because there is a satiating component of bone broth to begin with. So you can sip on it throughout the day, you don't really feel like you have to eat, your calories are low, it's just you lose weight in the process.

Boy do I freaking feel it now! Delirium, chills, sleepiness, diarrhea, light-headedness, nausea like crazy... No one told me about this, I'm kind of glad, because I don't know if I would have done it!

I’m on my 5th day of Clean Keto , plust I’ve been fasting everyday. What has helped big time has been Dr Berg Electrolytes, and when I’ve been feeling super nauseous and weak I’ve been himalayan salt with lemon in a cup of water. Really helps, but boy these keto flu is no joke. Cannot wait for my body to get used to this. Because I don’t feel eating at all.

Hang in there! I just woke up with body aches 31 hours into a 36-hour fast (recommended by Thomas to begin his 30-day keto challenge). I know this will pass, but dang, the beginning can be rough! I went 2 weeks with only water and occasional coffee. The first 3 days were hell and I questioned if I should continue. I had bad peers too lol. They told me I look like hell and offered to buy me food. Nah I just toughed it out and came out feeling accomplished in the end. I never appreciated food more then after that fast.

Love Thomas Delauer videos and understand them, and learn a great deal more than most other videos on the same subjects. He is right on, and he goes more in depth on minerals and micronutrients. People taking medications or steroids may not be aware of how hard it can change the electrolyte balance. One day you are king kong the next you are weak. So Being ignorant they just increase the steroids for a fix.. For a man Thomas's age he has an incredible understanding of health, more so than any Doctor I have met. Keep these videos coming Tom, ignore the fools who try to chastise you for educating us in your way. You have a gift.

I'm on the second day of a water fast right now, and feeling worse than yesterday. Yesterday was great! Today is all soreness, brain fog, and slight headache. It's great to hear that someone else went through something similar. Hopefully it went away quickly? Did you do anything to treat it?

I've had it for pretty close to a week now. I feel weak and tired. No energy. The weak feeling makes you crave carbs all the more. I'm going to stick with it though. I want to get to the other side.

@@Sharrrowkyn No. As it turns out it might be side effects of a medication that's causing all these issues. I'm going to call my cardiologist today.

@@Sharrrowkyn We lowered my medication and I had 3 vtach events that almost killed me in 8 days. I now have an ICD implant. I go in for an ablation August 4th.

But even though I was drinking water normally, it seems as though my fatigue was caused by dehydration, Try consuming lots of water and add more electrolytes. it somewhat did the trick for me... although it sounds as though you're dealing with something way more serious.

Super baaaadd keto flu on day 4 into keto diet. Never felt so nasuea in my life, then vomitted. Body felt weak and trembling. I wanted to eat something to get some energy but because of the nasuea, i couldn’t swallow anything.

Ah. Makes sense now. When I did my 60 hr keto fast, I drank water but didn't replenish my electrolytes. Got sick as a dog for 3 days. 2 of those days being after I broke the fast.

I got the keto flu and the name is spot on. I run heavy machinery and I was so cold even with the heat on in my cab and felt like death for 3 days. Hell nah, I'm good.

If I don't eat a pile of Salad and veggies twice a day even 6 Months on Keto I feel lethargic. This is on going not only at the beginning. At the start it is electrolytes, the rest of the way it is micro nutrients.

Been doing the keto diet for over a month and I feel terrible I still feel like I have the keto flu every time I try the keto diet the keto flu doesn't go away eventually I have to stop because the keto flu doesn't go away

Adding sodium and the other electrolytes into my diet did nothing to improve my keto flu. I was lightheaded for 7 days before I gave up. I couldn't leave the house I was that bad. I was not going to "wait it out" to see if it subsided. Keto is not for everyone.

Don’t feel bad keto is not healthy when you have to chug down electrolyte packets …. Eat low carb and you will end up with same result over time .

I drink pure water for first 2 days. 3rd day keto transitioned. Can start eating solids. It's a pain to fast that long. But worth it to not experience keto flu.

I didn't think I would get keto flu because I was doing dirty keto already and very low carb. I'm on day 9 and Have felt like shit for 3 days super tired migraine yesterday I just didn't have an appetite at all. It took me this long to figure out that I have keto flu. My question is Thomas says to sit on thumbdrop but he also says not to be anything for 4 to 5 hours between meals so which one is it?

Keto is like paleo, but you can eat certain processed foods and dairy. There's also a heavy emphasis on getting most of your calories from fat and virtually none of them from carbs.
