The Yaw tumble can creep up on you if you don't know the specifics of why it happens and how to avoid encountering it. I go into the aerodynamic reasons why this happens on the Avata 2. What to do when it happens, and how to fly in a way to avoid it happening.

Finally someone telling the truth unlike most of these newbies that just complain about "bad design" even if they agree physics are at play "to a certain point". That's like wanting to do drift with an SUV and wondering why did the car rolled over and blame it on the design of the car

Thank you! Yes there are too many people talking about it in a way which doesn't match up with the physics at play. I just wanted to break down what it actually happening so that people know how to manage it. 😃

Outside pass + yaw tumble = even worse that just yaw tumble. Any non-experienced pilots who think they should just skip to executing outside pass turns, might want to reconsider. Absorb the tips Justin has given and get comfortable before skipping ahead. Thank him later!

Awesome video! The only thing I'm missing is a footage of the drone itself while you're performing all those maneuvers. If you could do that, it'll greatly help understanding the relations between the view in the goggles and the presentation of the drone. Thanks!

Hey! The best I could do is the demo at the start, trying to film it in flight is very tricky and the drone would look tiny in the video or I'd have to get really close and low in which case it would probably crash before I could recover. I was basically performing a similar flight manoeuvre in the flight to what I showed at the beginning. Hope this helps. 😃

Hi Justin, just got my Avata 2 a couple weeks ago and have been enjoying your videos. I had this yaw tumble happen to me twice on Saturday -- freaked me out the first time! Luckily I was high enough up to recover easily, both times. Nice to know what exactly causes it, as I'd definitely been doing some hard yaw turns - thanks. Anyway keep the videos coming...so jealous of your location and scenery!

You absolutely right ! If you fly low and fast yaw then you lose control and you have no time to correct yourself right away . and I broke my left front motor and my gimbal cracked.😢 dawn that is very expensive Hobby . by the way, Dji have new update for the Avata 2 ? You could link on your DJI goggle 2 and goggle Integra also motion controller 😮 about time .

Awesome video! Best, most thorough explanation of the issue, what causes it and how to avoid it. I do a hard eye roll every time I see someone complaining about this on Facebook or in a forum, saying that it's "a DJI design flaw!" of the Avata and Avata 2. If people just had a better understanding of what it is and how to avoid it (and how to be ready for it if it does happen), I think there would be a lot fewer crashes because of it. I had a pretty good understanding of it before watching this video, but something I wasn't really aware of was the issue with the violent shaking when descending straight down. I knew that it happened as I've experienced it with both the Avata 2 and Air 2s, but I never really new why it happened. With your explanation, it makes so much sense that it's essentially the same root cause as the yaw tumble - you're dumping the airframe directly through the dirty air from the props. Definitely feels better knowing the "why". Thanks for this!!

Too many people have zero idea of aerodynamic principles, and physics. Or, they forget to apply them. The best way to relate to this with aircraft terms is wind shear.
@JustinBainbridgeYT
@JustinBainbridgeYT 2 ай бұрын
Yeah me too! I've always just seen it said and ignored it, but I know a lot of people are concerned about it so I wanted to clear the air and show why it's actually happening rather than just saying it's a bug. Which it's not. It's just a characteristic of this style of air frame and flying through turbulent air. Glad you enjoyed the video and also learned a little extra. Thanks for commenting 😃

Pretty sure that's what happened during my 2nd ever manual flight today ! Fell from around 20m without enough time to recover with the pause button unfortunately, so one of the motor arm was broken and now the drone has to be sent back to DJI :(.
@JustinBainbridgeYT
@JustinBainbridgeYT Ай бұрын
Ah that's a shame. Yes I find the pause button is too slow to respond to the tumble. This is one of the reasons i suggest learning to corret this manually as you'll have a better chance of saving it. Practice higher up and you should get the hang of it and after a while you'll know when you're doing a turn that puts you at more risk of experiencing it and you'll be ready to react if needs be. Hopefully it gets repaired and you get back in the air again quickly 😃

What about PID tuning? On fpv all what you described is because of bad PIDs, by adjusting them one can totally eliminate prop wash and thumble...
@JustinBainbridgeYT
@JustinBainbridgeYT 2 ай бұрын
We don't have access to tune the PIDs on the Avata 2 unfortunately. Otherwise, I would be doing just that, so it's best to just let people know what's happening, alot of people using the Avata 2 are new to fpv and won't be familiar with propwash effects. I doubt we will ever get a chance to modify pids on a DJI drone either

Thanks! Is yaw tumble factored in Sims like Liftoff? I suspect it is, but weeks like to know for sure because I'm preparing for Manual Mode. I think I'm experiencing prop wash in fast turns sure to using too much yaw and it seems that the turns is very drifty. Maybe I'm constantly going through prop wash on those tight turns?
@JustinBainbridgeYT
@JustinBainbridgeYT 2 ай бұрын
Yep, most sims will have accurate enough physics to mimic this happening in the sim. You won't notice it anywhere near as much with an open prop quad vs. a cinewhoop. Cinewhoops don't have as much access to clean air, and the prop guards can cause the prop tip vortices to bounce back and not be dispersed, which will exaggerate the issue. But you should feel it with any good sim

@ukmonk
@ukmonk Ай бұрын
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thank you Justin, yeah I was talking about more height. I was never gonna go manual but after a few days playing sims, I went out yesterday, took her up high, took the plunge and enabled manual and did ok, I didn’t crash 😂. My heart was pounding though lol. Managed a few dives and flips, but as I have played video games for a LONG time (I am 53) It really helped with the coordination needed for the RC3, sounds stupid but playing 3rd/1st person shooters definitely helped 😂. And playing hours in the sims (uncrashed and liftoff) was also very beneficial. (I use mode 3 which is similar to 3rd/1st person style controls for me) I actually like the stiffer throttle stick even in normal/sport mode, and will still keep practising in manual but regarding most shots I want, I think normal and sport will suffice, but in certain situations like chasing a car/bike/foot chase/free running etc, I think manual will be great. I like more cinematic smoother shots so also thinking of getting the Mini Pro 4 as well as using my Avata 2. Sorry for the long reply and thanks again for your great channel! 👍🙏

There are some cinewhoops like this but with large slots in the prop guards, and it does help. The frame on the Avata 2 would have to be resigned for this, though as it would be very weak if you started cutting holes in it
@PoloHungary
@PoloHungary 2 ай бұрын
@@JustinBainbridgeYT yes but one hole in the back corner or carbon frame
@JustinBainbridgeYT
@JustinBainbridgeYT 2 ай бұрын
@PoloHungary you would need sizeable slots all around the guards. My other cinewhoop has this style design (GepRc Cinelog 35 V2) yeah a carbon frame mod would also help but it's a lot of effort for something that can be easily avoided if you are just aware of the way you're flying. I just use a freestyle drone if I need to be doing more intense/acrobatic flying. But it would be nice to see an aftermarket frame that's a bit stronger and incorporates some slots or a lower profile guard to help with better airflow. 😃
