When should I take chasteberry?
It works best in the morning because that's when the pituitary is most responsive to vitex's prolactin-lowering effect.
Chasteberry OR Vitex is one of the most popular herbal remedies for PMS and cramps. In fact, one study published in the Journal of Women’s Health & Gender-Based Medicine found that after being treated with vitex for three menstrual cycles, 93 percent of patients reported a decrease in the number of PMS symptoms or a complete end of PMS complaints. In addition to reducing unwanted premenstrual symptoms, it also treats some menopausal symptoms as well as hormonally induced acne.
For women, it increases luteinizing hormone, modulates prolactin and aids in the inhibition of the release of follicle-stimulating hormone, which all helps balance out the ratio of progesterone to estrogen, slightly raising the levels of progesterone. It’s important to keep in mind that chasteberry is not actually a hormone, but rather an herb that helps the body raise its own levels of progesterone.
Vitex increases progesterone by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) and inhibiting follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). In most reproductive conditions involving hormone imbalance, estrogen dominance or progesterone imbalance tend to be common.
For Men: Benign prostatic hyperplasia is an age-associated prostate gland enlargement that can cause urination difficulty. Extracts of Vitex agnus-castus fruits can be useful for the prevention and treatment not only of an enlarged prostate, but also prostate cancer. Vitex contains components that inhibit proliferation and kills prostate cancer cells.
Prolactin is released with Stress, it contributes to lower levels of Androgens, Testosterone, and everything, supresses Libido - and, that's how Vitex improves Libido by dropping off Prolactin, increasing Luteinising Hormone, and Luteinising Hormone, in men, stimulates the production of Testosterone.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Using vitex agnus-castus during pregnancy or breast-feeding is POSSIBLY UNSAFE. The concern is that vitex agnus-castus can interfere with hormones. Don't use vitex agnus-castus if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
Hormone-sensitive condition such as endometriosis; uterine fibroids; or cancer of the breast, uterus, or ovaries: Vitex agnus-castus can affect hormones and might affect estrogen levels. Don't use vitex agnus-castus if you have a hormone-sensitive condition.
Parkinson's disease. Vitex agnus-castus contains chemicals that affect the brain. These chemicals affect the brain similarly to some medications used for Parkinson's disease. Therefore, vitex agnus-castus might affect therapy for Parkinson's disease.
Schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders. Vitex agnus-castus seems to affect a chemical in the brain called dopamine. Some medications for mental disorders help to decrease dopamine. Therefore, taking vitex agnus-castus might affect therapy for certain mental disorders.

Mis periodos se han acortado entre 21 y 25 dias y empiezo con síntomas menstruales desde el día 15. Es muy incómodo. Empecé con una pastilla de Vitex y ahora tomo dos juntas según indicaciones en mi nuevo frasco. Tendrá que ver el Vitex en mi corto periodo y esos síntomas molestos? Hello! Thank you very much for all the useful info that you are sharing with us. I've read/watched very carefully all the info about Vitex, but I am still a bit confused. I have high prolactin (double than normal) and a small pituitary adenoma. However doctors say it's a non-secreting tumour and they never treated me for high prolactin. Moreover, I am also suspected to be having PCOS (LH to FSH ratio was 1.8). They say I'm on the borderline of PCOS judging by the Amsterdam criteria. I am currently taking BC pill, but I would want to stop. Would Vitex be an option for me when I stop BC? I asume it would help decrease my prolactin levels (and all the symptoms linked to this) but would it do more harm than good to the LH levels? One naturopath prescribed it to me, but I'm afraid to start because of this LH thing🤔 Your opinion would be so valuable to me!:)

Im 43 got pregnant after 1 month on vitex✨thank you sweet Lord💝 I Started taking it due to luteal phase defect. My question to you Is have there been any studies done on it taken during pregnancy? My doctor has prescribed progesterone, but I’m leery to quit the VITEX the stuff is amazing💖

Because of its hormone effects, you shouldn't take vitex if you're breastfeeding. Pregnancy. If you are pregnant, you shouldn't take vitex. Influencing your hormones during pregnancy can be dangerous. Progesterone is a hormone that helps the uterus grow during pregnancy and keeps it from contracting. Treatment with progesterone during pregnancy may help some people reduce their risk for premature birth. If you have a short cervix, treatment with vaginal progesterone gel may help prevent premature birth.

Clinical research suggests that Chaste Tree increases melatonin secretion, especially during the night. (Melatonin is produced in the pineal gland, and helps control our awake and sleep cycles.) So by encouraging normal melationin release at night, Chaste Tree may provide relief from occasional sleeplessness.

Hello. I was diagnosed with fibriods in 2005, had a Lap surgery. Then abd. Surgery to remove total of 15 fibriods again . Does taking the vitex decreased the fibriods, and can it be taken with DIM. No children as of now.

Is is safe for people who have had total thyroidectomy? (My thyroid was removed because of thyroid canser when i was 18). Im 28 year old female now, i have pcos and i have suffered 2 years of infertility (since i was 26). I was recomended to use vitex based on dutch test and some other blood tests. I used it 1 cycle, and on that cycle i ovulated cd14, which i was very happy about. Normally i ovulate between cd 16-25. But then my tsh had risen from 0.4 to 1.6 :/ so after that i havent used vitex, because i worry it would mess my tsh because i dont have thyroid... My tsh is supposed to be under 2 and close to 0 as possible because of thyroid canser background. Also based on dutch test my estrogen was very low, but dhea was super high. Based on blood tests my amh is 9, and this cycle i ovulated 2 follicles (cd16) thanks to letrozol so my progesterone was 73. So i dont think low progesterone is issue for me anymore (i have been on terolut and using progesterone cream also, but not in this cycle they tested it), it might have been problem in past because back on january it was a bit low on dutch test thought. Do you think is it safe for me to use vitex? Or it would suit me still? I really liked that i ovulated cd 14 on it, it had never happenned before it, not even on letrozol... But i expecially worry it would mess my tsh... Its hard to sometimes find info what suppliments are safe for total thyroidectomy patients :/

Because it works by promoting ovulation, vitex should be started early in the follicular phase and then continued until day 1 of the period. Taking regular breaks from vitex can prevent attenuation of its effects. If you have regular periods, take five days off from the first day of your period (day 1 to 5).

I'm a patient of Dr. Jawad btw. However I will something that has nothing to do with him. I too had a short leuteal phase. Take gaffenesin ( it's in robitussin) it worked for me. It makes you produce cervical fluid. Do I took while on my period so that when I came off hubby and I would make a baby. This way all the cervical fluid I was able to have a baby.

Hello!! I have Adenomyosis doctor said because I bleed a lot during my periods usually 2nd and 3rd day is really heavy for 5-6 days cycle and it 28-30 days cycle. Yes, you can drink it daily. It works to improve the hormonal regulatory pathway. I cannot answer if it will make your periods shorter.

I also experienced shorter periods because of vitex and quit because of that. But my periods were irregular and I was using iodine which corrected it to 27 days after skipping or longer periods. But I do not bleed much since using the mirena IUD. Before I was on that I used to bleed a lot and had 21day cycles. I did eat out of plastic from a microwave that might have caused that though. I think I detoxed that in the 11 years of Mirena.

Vitex has been shown to reduce levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and increase luteinizing hormone, thereby reducing estrogen and increasing progesterone levels. With exercise and low glycaemic nutrition will reduce the insulin resistance and by that LH hormone levels will be reduced. In addition, antioxidants such as Inositol and Omega 3, a Vitaminoid involved in carbohydrate metabolism, have been shown to be effective in reducing LH levels.

Hello, I’m a male with elevated prolactin around 50 to 60 with a range of 2 to 18 being normal. Therefore my prolactin is approximately six times higher than normal so obviously it’s causing many issues like low testosterone, low luteinizing hormone and low FSH. I read that if you take a high dose of Vitex, it can increase dopamine thereby lowering prolactin which should help raise testosterone. What are your thoughts on this and what’s a high dose? I’m taking around 3000 mg a day.

I took vitex for 4 months about 1,000 mg a day and after I got off had really bad side effects. Depression, anxiety, heart palpitations, nightmares, confusion. Before taking this my period comes on time and I am not menopausal. I am only 36 and in good physical health.
