This is very quickly becoming my favourite hobby channel on KZfaq. Love that you cover all aspects of painting by doing more than just the actual model, but scenery, bases and weathering too! Things I'd like to see you cover next are camo patterns (I know I say this one all the time) but then also maybe some metallics. I'd love to see you tackle some of the new Necron models and cover some silver and brass schemes using Series D.

I think the real topic here is not the base and color recipe itself but how painting minis isn't one direction straight but a back and forth process: bringing your hues back after highlights using focused glazes then pushing extreme lights here and there. Wet blending for dummies, etc. The fact it's "just" a base makes using these advanced techniques look more like a natural progression than intimidating prone-to-fail stuff. Still not sold on videos length but even being "above" the need of watching basing videos, I never regret spending my time watching these. I'd love to watch your take on more complex subjects (intermediate and advanced) or insightful out of the blue stuff like that purple/green neon wall, the smoothly stippled vehicles...

This video has gotten me thinking about my basing for my White Scars army. I had originally planned on using Vallejo Earth Pasting paste with some brown wash with a dry brush, but this has me reconsidering the amount of dry brushing... mebee add some rocks for a chunkier base. Thanks for sharing
@zamo9660
@zamo9660 4 жыл бұрын
I use Vallejo's pastes along with Kitty litter for bigger rocks. Kinda slap grey into the rock while brown is still fresh so it wet blends then dry brush everything with a yellow white (ice yellow, hikey yellow, maybe ivory...). I personally wash everything with pigment powders to matt down and bring everything together, then snipe some extreme highlights.

I can absolutely do this at some point in the future, GS cuts nicely before it is dried, and doesn't crack, plus is sticky enough to hold slate/props/details nicely at any angle, it also drills beautifully, for pinning, as well as giving you bottom-heavy minis for gaming!

So along the lines of idea video’s I was putting a bigature (big min in my case a large demon but also apply to vehicles) and I always have the bits to build and glue and there are the bits you know need to painted separately and then glue. It could be a good video to discuss a series of mini’s and what to paint separately when you going to used the series D techniques. And maybe some tricks if you find yourself with your light source out once ensembles as I know that is something I’ve srufffed up if I’m not look at the rest of the figure at the same time. I guess it would be a bit talky face and a discussion on light in a more general sense but practical examples assuming you have a decent pile of shame could be really useful....now I’ve written it I’m not sure if is a good idea or not, to me the big appeal of an airbrush is getting directional highlights is super easy and the series D allows this also

Cheers! You'd be surprised Devin, it barely picks up paint, and when it does it doesn't come off, you can flip it over and use the other side also, the most important thing is to let it dry fully every so often so you don't promote it festering :). We also sell replacements, but they're not needed nearly as regularly as you'd think.

Yeah, I usually feel like that about Artis Opus videos. I like the content but footage should be cut or speed up a notch. @@ArtisOpus I do appreciate it indeed. I know there are algorithms to please doing this or that so the vid can stand out from the crowd but (and maybe I'm wrong) internet doesn't work line TV. IMHO contents (hobby-wise) are meant to be played multiple times, like in 6months you have a bunch of SW stormtroopers and you think "Byron's did a good job painting white a while ago" and you check back some parts no as much as a lesson or entertainment which may be the 1st time watching the video but like a instructional reference. I know I might be dead wrong here, but at least I feel it's worth considering. The 3 white shields in 1 video has the standard AO's length but thrice the contents so in my book that one was awesome 😊

Dat dud is right: most people misunderstands dry brushing by rubbing actually dried out paint into minis. It needs a degree of moisture, that's why he uses the damping pad, he keeps the brush "fresh" without letting it suck water into the belly. IMHO the key is to use soft brushes like the D series (makeup ones will do too), keep them from being 100% dry and leave the slightest amount of paint on them. There's tricks like rubbing graphite with your finger or use darker metallics and then edge highlight with a pencil so you get different degrees of shine in you metals. Glazed are always adviced too 😊
