Great advice with application way beyond any one industry! I just showed this to my daughter who is a physiotherapy student starting work placement in a hospital. I'm hoping she was paying close attention to the many great points you raised. Thanks for packing so much common sense into one concise talk.

They don't seem to understand Both I and the company could have their licence suspended because the apprentice I was supervising, didn't do what I told them to do. Now days, they have so many online resources available, tney hardly need TAFE. After 45 years, I am researching stuff almost every night. Keeping up to date. Tweaking my knowledge. It never ends. Isolate before entering a roof cavity. A roof cavity is one of the most dangerous work places anywhere.

Yes don't talk back, discussing a safety issue with two apprentices, when one started walking away. I said, don't walk away from me, we have not finished this conversation.
@electricalhowto8523

Wow, you can never muck around with safety... What we would do in that instance is ask them to come back after the meeting. We would say "do you value the safety of your team mates?" Then pause for their response. Then "do you value the position that you have in our company?" Then pause.. two very strong and powerful questions that you really need them to answer. Need to work out why they think safety isn't important.

Hey I've been a apprentice for 3 months now I understand everyone was a apprentice at some point but I just feel really dumb sometimes i feel like there's things which are common sense I should know but I don't. I love what I'm doing and I'm so keen to learn but some days I go home unmotivated due to this. Is this normal or am I really not the sharpest tool in the shed 😂

I’ve made many mistakes and you will end up costing ur boss but it’s all a learning process so once you understand the theory a lot more it’ll work wonders bro don’t stress I’m still learning as qualified sparky still learn new stuff every day 👍

It is normal in any career that an individual chooses to feel like you are not learning to start with or doing the easy jobs. It takes time to prove to your boss and yourself that you are capable of completing new tasks. The more dedication that you show, the more your fellow electricians will want to show you as they can see that you are keen. As a new apprentice, you should always have questions as you are learning every day. Try and ask a minimum of one new question every day. Hope everything is going well and you are feeling more confident!

Absolutely not! You just need to find a company happy to take on a mature aged apprentice that is keen to work hard! :) they are out there, you just have to ring plenty of businesses

Whats wrong with cap backwards? Just curious
@electricalhowto8523
@electricalhowto8523 2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't look professional on a job site. Your cap would have the company logo on the front normally. This should be facing the customer at all times if you are wearing it in summer. Putting a cap on backwards whilst crawling under a house or in a roof is fine, but putting it on correctly when you are representing your company is a must.

@electricalhowto8523 lol what? A cap isn't there to look nice it's to keep the sun out of your eyes... your saying your company doesn't care about its employees enough to think about that unless the company's name is on the hat... that's crazy man just saying. The cap backwards looking unprofessional has nothing to do with it... your in an out of the sun the cap will go forwards an backwards
@gladicus_
@gladicus_ 8 ай бұрын
@@jasonbourne2171he's saying don't wear a cap unless it looks professional. Of course you want to wear sun protection, and employers in Australia are required to provide PPE, so usually they will provide a hat or cap. But don't bring in hats that look unprofessional. Don't wear your hats or clothing in a casual way if you want your bosses, clients or customers to take you seriously. You're there to do a job, represent your company and leave the customer feeling satisfied that the work was carried out professionally by a professional.

Ring as many companies as you can. Do work experience with companies to show how keen you are. Don't stop ringing or looking for the work, it'll come!! You can also reach out to places like NECA who may be able to help. It's hard to get a mature aged apprenticeship which really sucks!! But once you do get one, you'll be flying!
