If you'd like to use my budget modeler template, here it is: collegeinfogeek.com/go/budget-tracker-2020/ . I've added a lot of notes to specific cells to explain things. Unfortunately I can't provide direct support on it (it's meant for hacking on), but if you have suggestions, feel free to put them here!

I think that in video where i don't really know what to expect you should really add timestamps. That helps a great deal rewatching certain bits and general navigation. Many creators have started to apply this in their videos as youtube has also started supporting it natively This is my very first and sincere suggestion.

Remember: Oftentimes, you need a more direct plan; a checklist, if you will. Tell yourself: I’ll accomplish this, then this, then this. Often times people go too broad, and then get overwhelmed. It’s much harder to get overwhelmed when everything is one step at a time.

I would like to add 4 questions you can ask yourself when trying to determine the best action to take (sort of like a more organized what-if analysis). I first discovered these questions while reading Dr. Ben Carson's book "Take the Risk", which I highly recommend. 1. What is the best possible outcome if action is chosen 2. What is the best possible outcome if action is not chosen 3. What is the worst possible outcome if action is chosen 4. What is the worst possible outcome if action is not chosen Once you have answers to these 4 simple questions, it often becomes clear what the best alternative is.

What I find difficult is acting on the plan. Is there a stage where there is too much planning and not enough action? Is it easier to plan once you’ve already reached success? I think most people have an uncertainty about their plan which leads to inaction. That uncertainty is also coupled with fear. Attacking those 2 areas of ones plan to change or accomplish something, I feel is necessary to then really take advantage of planning.
@dee5168
@dee5168 4 жыл бұрын
oh yes definitely, sometimes i put things off because i don’t have a direct plan, so, i keep on planning. But eventually it turns into a “i can’t do this without the plan being perfect” when in fact you already have to tools to act. done is better then being perfect.

This answer is probably incomplete, but I find that setting deadlines for myself helps me to strike that balance between planning and action. I know I can always course-correct along the way, so it's useful to make the best plan I can in a short amount of time, and then to use a deadline as a way to spur myself to get things done.
@SimplyGot55

To reiterate what Dee said it is much better to decide/act then to wait until everything is aligned perfectly. By the time everything is 💯 aligned the window of opportunity may have closed.

A major advancement in my bullet journaling was adding an anticipation entry for each calendar item. For example, when I had a doctor's appointment, I would enter what I expected to change after I attended that appointment. I also added space for anticipating events or changes in conditions that were outside conventional calendar items. Turns out, I became far better at predicting the course of my future, particularly in the short term.

Hey Thomas! Love your videos and I think more people should see this one so here are my thoughts on it 1) simplifying the title to something like STRATEGIZE YOUR LIFE might attract more viewers 2) the thumbnail had all similar brownish colors, that’s why it didn’t catch my eye. Could be helpful to have more contrast/ more of a black and white scheme or so 3) I personally would love some key messages in text form and less b-roll clips. Just wanted to put my opinion out there in case you’re looking for feedback! Other than that, this video is so beautifully designed, amazing!

Off topic comment, I've been taught that putting a barrier between you and someone you are having a conversation with has a lot of bad effects and it was in this video that I really felt and understood it. In the scene where you opened up your computer, my attention dropped and I had a harder time zooming back into the video. I tried to imagine how different it would have felt if you had moved the computer to the side at the same time and I believe that would have made the experience much better. I guess you learn every day.

Like Thomas, I also use Excel a lot. However, I think it is due more to the pleasure of using spreadsheets that their actual usefulness. For example, the budget spreadsheet might be very sophisticated, but relays on very important guesstimates. As such all the analysis is based on weak foundations. On the subject of combining human brain and computers, I'm not so sure I agree. Humans tend to be bad at making decisions and much of input and outcome is based on luck. For a better and much more eloquent explanation, you can read Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman.

1.) You are SOOOO fine. 2.) This outfit definitely enhances it. 3.) It would be awesome to delve into how to use strategy in ways that are less obvious than money. Like changes in career when there's no modeler or numerical systems to add or subtract like credits. I guess, how to use a what-if analysis and mental modeling or alternate forms of data in making big career/life decisions. I imagine Journaling could be one way to create mental models but it would be interesting to hear about alternative data sources. Thoughts?

In my eyes you show in the example with the house and the spreadsheet only one solution to the logical decision. But that has nothing at all to do with strategy. Strategy means thinking and planning many several steps ahead. Whether a strategy is good or bad is something you only know later. In the best case, it was good and you become known as a result. I was hoping to find out more about how to proceed in order to learn a strategy thinker (which often has to do with an extended horizon). Unfortunately you won't find any books about this. Nevertheless I am still very interested in the topic. Sorry for my bad english, but english is not my mother tongue.

There is an innumerable amount of variables to say with 100% certainty that our decisions will play out favorably all the time... i love strategizing to get the upper hand and know how hard it is to think of all the outcomes, i know pcs are the master race lawls... but ya even they have their limits/variables that would never ever be calculated.
