Kids will be kids and most of the time, dealing with them takes so much patience. In this video, there are 10 things that Dr. Paul Jenkins shares with us when it comes to being patient with kids:
1. Love them no matter what and even if.
2. Become more childlike.
3. Who's teaching whom?
4. Build the memories.
5. Become a more patient person.
6. Find the fun.
7. People before problems and values before valuables.
8. Picture them in 20 years.
9. Take care of yourself.
10. Learn about child development.
Watch and Enjoy!

My daughter peed herself and I noticed she was scared to tell me about it and I got upset and I could just see her being conflicted mentally because she was scared and didn't know what to do first. I realized this may come from me yelling at times, which is rare but it happens. I found you after that and I love your videos.

I love my baby girl so much I can't even explain it but I have had a problem with being patient with everyone around me my entire life. I hate thinking about how I am negatively affect her with my high expectations, she is only three and tries so hard as it is to do what is right. This information made so much sense to me and I'm very thankful I found it. I understand it's my problem not hers and I want to fix it to be the better father she deserves. Thank you so much, you don't know how much this helps me right now.

I'm not a parent. I'm definitely not even of age to be a parent. I see a lot of hopeful parents in the comments saying how helpful you are so I wish you and them the best. This is actually really helpful because I'm starting to "tutor" (more like helping a friend's sibling) and I want to make sure I don't snap at her especially because she's so young. I don't want to discourage her if I lose my temper because I know that can have really negative effects and change their attitude on learning. so thank you so much for sharing this helpful advice!

Great stuff, especially as I work from home with all 5 kids in the house during this Coronavirus shut-down. I especially appreciate the "Take Care of Yourself" part. If I am doing my part to stay healthy and balanced, my kids seem to become a reflection of that. But when I'm cross, irritable, or short-tempered, it comes right back to me - especially from my 15 year old. 😡 I really want to implement these strategies and see the results. Thanks again!

👏👏👏 My side of the family sometimes thinks I'm crazy or trying to wish away the present by keeping in perspective that my kids will leave someday. I love them being little. I'm going to miss them. I k no ow this but I want to be mentally healthy for my kids and that means, in part, to me that I don't get to keep them forever. My mother acted in the past hurt, betrayed and a bit toxic when me and my siblings became grown and started to move out and get married. I dont want to do that to my kids. I want to share their joy in every stage of their lives. Even the ones when I'll have to let go.

I can't take credit for the method. That goes to my grandmother to whom, made me respect her and her word. She wasn't big, she wasn't emotional. She was consistent and because she managed up to 6-8 grandchildren herself, she didn't have time for nonsense. She was very religious, even thought I wasn't and never turned out to be. As a parent, I don't care about your excuses about how you feel that day. I don't care if you're tired, exhausted, frustrated or have any mental deficiencies. If you don't handle your children properly as a toddler, child and before they grow up, many of the problems they develop can be attributed to your lack of parenting. Here just are a few of the things she did that are very effective in setting the tone and maintaining our attention: We did what she said. If we didn't, we wouldn't get anything or get to do anything we wanted and was the fastest way to punishment. Punishment was cleaning work in the house or the yard. "Yes, Ma'am", "No, Ma'am", "Please" and "Thank You" were just some of the basic required vocabulary. We she made the family a meal, we ate it. It didn't matter whether we liked it or not. Our choice was to eat the hot food she made for us. If we didn't eat it, we didn't have that meal. It wouldn't be there for you later. You'd learn this lesson quick because you'd really be hungry the next meal. Certain things earned us punishment. Certain things called for her to bend us over her lap and spank us. Her constant message was, "This is going to hurt me, more than it hurts you..." There was mainly myself who was with her most of the time in my formative years and many times other first cousins. We were all far from "Angels" but, we she had our respect at all times. We knew how we were supposed to conduct ourselves with her, other adults and to do what they say. No matter the path you take as adult, it's what you're ingrained with during your early formative years that can guide you to the right direction as you grow up. You're the boss. You set the rules. You have to be the playmate and friend. You also have to be the enforcer of those rules. You have to be willing to turn it on and off, like a switch. Do it as soon as they can understand you. No nonsense. If you don't, you're only making it hard for yourself. Children need to be kept in mental check. If you tell them to stop and they don't, you need to be willing to enforce your word immediately. It's training them to know that you'll be hot on their trail, if they don't follow your instructions. It's constant maintenance, but you'll achieve the results you want. In most cases, you'll never have deal with stereotypical problems most parents have. Most parents become lazy about parenting and this is a responsibility that can't afford that.

I desperately wish I could consult with you. Taking care of myself is an area that I'm lacking but, as a mom of 6 children aged 1 through 14, I never have time to think of my well being. I ran across your videos because I was looking for help. I have had no patience lately and have found myself yelling at the children a lot which is completely out of character for me. I'm so stressed out and really need to find a way to get back in control of myself because I don't want to continue to hurt my children's feelings. I can see that I am every time I yell. How do I get my patience back? I'm just fried and I have no actual help with my children. Please give me some advice!

Jessica - thank you first of all for being here and for your willingness to look at your own pile of stuff. Your ability to show up as a conscious parent is tied to your own humility and willingness to change - good on ya! I'm honored to be on your team. We have a whole playlist here on the channel for positive parenting, and we also have a whole playlist on positive personal development. Spend some time in both of those and I think you will get some ideas. I'm also happy to do personal consultation - Just go to my website: drpauljenkins.com and fill out the contact form. Cyndi would then reach out to you to schedule a time for us to talk. We can do a full paid package if that's what you want, or simply a brief call to connect and identify some next steps (just ask for a discovery session if that's what you're looking for). We also have a Parenting Power-up Audio Course that is about to be released, and you can get in on the launch discount at parentingpowerup.com. Glad you're here and engaged! DrPaul

I jump in puddles and my son looks at me like I"m extra weird. So what about a kid with behavior problems, how to stop yelling at them? I've taken him through so many programs and we did years of therapy. But he still somehow has learned to push all my buttons and I still wind up yelling. I yell way less then I used to but I still feel it's too much. I Want to stop yelling period but it's so difficult. My mom, grandma and so on were all yellers so it's been ingrained I guess. I want to break the habit.
