Actually, most people end up walking in big circles in the forest due to the fact that they naturally favor one leg. That’s why navigational skills are important. Ending up back where you started isn’t at all unlikely in these circumstances.

Mythbusters did an episode on walking in a straight line while blindfolded and how it was incredibly difficult to do so. They mention in the episode it's how people become lost in the woods because everything looks the same it's hard to get a concrete sense of direction.

One of the survival techniques my grandfather taught me is to pass with one tree on your right side and then the next one up ahead on your left. That the best way I can explain it. It works better in more densely forested areas and obviously isn't perfect but it does keep you moving mostly straight

Well, assuming I get into the situation with the RV in the middle of nowhere. My first thought is I'm in their territory and if they really don't want me to leave there's a good chance I'm not gonna be able to leave. Feel like there might be a bunch of traps in the woods but I feel like my best chance would be to run away, alone (I trust none of them). Not walk, run, in any direction, I'm picking a direction at random and bolting. . Good chance the leaves and branches crackling will draw attention to any gazing eyes anyways but you can't hit what you can't touch. Maybe I can get a weapon from the RV. I'd totally be expecting to get shot in the back with a hunting rifle though, wouldn't expect anything.

In actuality, big cities in Italy are far more dangerous than just going to the rural part of the south in general (but big cities in the south can be kinda more dangerous depending on the zone of the city you’re in)

I think the reason they left her virtually unguarded is that she's the Final Girl, so they had to make things manageable for her. After all, the film crew are deliberately following horror tropes. We have the footage of her in the beach at the end, so presumably the film crew knew exactly what she was doing. (No, I haven't seen the film. I'm only theorising based on this video.)

To be fair, I'm assuming this is in France or, more likely, Italy, so going South takes you towards the coast and the coast is massively populated due to the fact it's extremely scenic. That doesn't help much if you're in Wyoming, but in Europe, that's not terrible advice as long as you weren't visiting somewhere like Denmark.

South from Italy is Africa, where the hot winds come from. So, because they are in the mountains, the reason to go south is the hope that the trees of the forest, exposed to these winds, would scatter, and they would find an open space where they can be rescued more easily. However, the finale with the crowded beach screws up that, for these pines don't grow near the sea PS As an Italian, I never heard of this movie, so thanks to have me discovered it, but I have nevertheless something to say to you: your pronunciation of "Fabrizio" is correct, except for the Z. In Italy, indeed, it is pronunced as "ts", like in "cats", or "ds", like in "pads", but never as the English Z

3 of them had watches. You start following the sun at dawn and keep it at your back after noon. You will be heading due east. The reverse if you need to go West. And you can use those markers to head south or north.

While it isn´t neccessarily south, it does make at least some sense. If you are lost in the middle of nowhere and have the means to determen where South actually is, you just walk straight in that direction. This way you at least know where you are going and without aimlessly running in circles, you will eventually find a point to navigate, like a road, a coastline or even just a ventage point. At least in europe where the nearest civilisation is at worst a few days on foot away. In the USA, this might be fuitile if you are in a state where you have to cross like half the country to even find a road and then would have to drive for 6 straight hours to reach the nearest gas station.

Might be the fact that i'm not calabrese, like fabrizio, so i don't know what "going south" should mean other than going south. Usually you just pick a direction that you can follow and rely on, like west or east during the day or north at night. There isn't nothing that points to the south and it doesn't matter where you go since you don't even know where you are. Probably this "going south" is a symbolism to the italian mafia (obviously present in the movie in every moment, even the eldritch trio are the "founders" of the three main mafia in southern italy), since southern italy and sicily are usually depicted along organized crime
