If you were stuck in a timeloop forced to die again and again, what would you do? You're stuck on this island and you'll be forced to see all your friends get brutally murdered until you stop these horrfying monsters. When I was 5 i had a dream that predicted 7 years into the future. There was no way I had any prior knowledge it. Long story short. In the dream I was visiting my grandparents house and they told me a they had a suprise for me an when I went upstairs I found 3 big toys from the yugioh anime. That week end I went over an saw an got nothing. 7 years later the dream came true to that exact detail. Slifer was on the right, blue eyes ultimate dragon in the middle and obelisk the tormentor on the left.

What I love about Summer Time Rendering is how it already kinda turns into its own “How To Beat” series with Shinpei and co. methodically figuring out their next steps and how to outwit the Shadows.

The reason you've seen it before is that it's the basic framework for a time loop story. (And sometimes just regular time travel stories can do it, a la Stein's Gate during the 2nd half does for awhile). Most of these stories do the same thing, but, it's not usually the case that the looping involves multiple persons being privy to the info, and I only recall one having more than 2 (Palm Springs movie on Netflix), whereas here there is that shadow ability... So the knowledge is shared further. Not saying I have an issue with this structure! It's just kinda how time looping works, assuming the looper wants to change an outcome. And this show did the thriller\mystery thing really well while including loops, I found it really entertaining.

the nice thing about this anime is that its characters (protagonist and antagonist) are not too dumb and not too smart making the challenge of winning their side a bit tricky. its like anything could go wrong on either sides and it just relies on luck and whatever information they have making it a challenge on actually predicting what will happen next (both in the story and pov of the audience). characters would die unexpectedly, plan will fail without them knowing, and information they know keeps being rewritten because of the loops; and i think its why this anime is phenomenal. expect the unexpected indeed!!

i love this kind of stories, powerless main character trapped in a time loop trying to fight somethin HUGE. like re:zero with subaru and... all of his problems, higurashi with rika and an entire conspiration inside a secret organization that has influence in the entire country, or steins;gate with okabe fighting destiny itself and seeing his own actions leading him to his doom.

im so glad this underrated af anime is getting noticed as its my favorite anime so far, but there are some things you missed in the video that were explained in the episodes you covered. Such as not explaining how the shadows work like whenever they do that flashing thing it means they are scanning something and taking in its data, so if a shadow does scan someone but doesnt kill them the shadow only has memories of the person before they got scanned

Wait... So didn't the shadows say they were working with the family for a long time? They mean just the dad right? Because that sounds like they been here for a really long time, yet Shuria or whatever her name is, is the first to be taken over? Were they just living as their normal scary shadow forms until they decided to take people over ? Because the real little girl was still alive and just recently killed. So the timeline of this is a little confusing.

I think that the shadows were working with the old man as they slowly grew their colony while the old man was feeding the god. Then when they were ready, they started stacking bodes faster than a 9/11 joke getting dislikes for being funny.

The shadows, specifically Haine and Karikiri, were working with the Hishigata family for decades. Basically Haine was getting weaker and needed bodies to regain her health, and the way this was being done was through murder or in Ushio’s case, having the real body preserved for Haine to eat The Hishigata’s basically would pass down the responsibility of feeding Haine to whoever was the most suited for the task (was going to be Tokiko after their dad passed) Shiori didn’t recently die, she died the same day that Ushio died. Haine copied Shiori’s physical body after killing the real Ushio. The Shiori at the funeral is actually Haine

him restarting closer and closer to his death could just mean he is travelling back a set amount of time

the first time Shinpei dies is on the second day of his arrival to the island. the second time he dies is on the first night he got on the island, and yet he comes back later in time than when he comes back the first time. It's also better explained in the anime that each time he comes back will always be later than the previous time.

Not really. I think even if he dies at the same time he dies in the past, he would respawn later than he normally should have.

@@Itsgyro This is true. If he died at midnight and came back at noon the same day, if he died again at midnight he would come back after noon. It's explained in the anime. Essentially the eye he has is able to see time from a higher dimension, but he's unable to fully utilize the power due to being a mere human. The only reason he can travel at all is because when he dies, he loses his sense of self, allowing him to go back. But even then, the power of the eye is limited, and he isn't able to use it to it's maximum potential.

@@thewayofthebeard3680 That's a tough question, there's a lot I like. but if I had to pick two, I'd recommend the rising of the sheild hero, a little dark but not too much, and knights and magic, an interesting story that blends fantasy and sci-fi pretty well. They're both isekai, I really love that genera, but I'd recommend giving those a watch if you haven't already. Would recommend doing a little research on the first one before watching, though, as there are some topics discussed that might trigger some.

some issues I saw that the show cleared up- shadows have all memories of their host, and telling everyone on the island wouldnt work as like we saw anyone could be a shadow so if shinpei tells a shadow he gets killed

I consider "throwing them under the bus" as linguistics memory. He says it so many times, that he says it even in situations where it would bite him in the ass. On the plus side, aside from that one statement, he doesn't explicitly sacrifice anyone to further his goals, so that's a new one.

I liked this anime until the shrine moment, then it felt like it went downhill. I was into the phycological horror, but then it turned into a fight the monster and who is/isn't a shadow starts to hit the back burner and less threatening.

I feel like you may have overlooked something at 10:48. I don't think there was any reason for Shinpei to believe that the shadows lacked any information. I'm pretty sure in the legends that Shinpei heard, the Shadows are known to be able to steal the place of the person they copy, so it should be assumed that they are indistinguishable from the original based on what they know. This is especially evident in the later episodes where [SPOILERS] multiple times a shadow will copy a character and then use the knowledge gained from reading their memories as a way to strategize against the other side.

Gotta say I'm not too sure about this one. I really enjoyed the first few episodes and the dark tone of it really pleasently surprised me as it seems to be the case with everyone. But at some point the series just kinda felt too long, too much and everything got a bit too confusing to a point where they had to use characters such as Hizuru's brother for exposition to make the audience catch up to what's going on. The ending also wasn't that satisfying IMO since everyone just forgot about the whole adventure we've been on. Like at least let Shinpei keep his memory so that he can reflect on the changes to the first episode and make everything even more bittersweet. I just feel like if they had cut the series short of like 6 episodes it would have been a cleaner, more focused series. Still enjoyed the ride tho
