@@EzraCyrus I still don't work for Marvel or DC but I get plenty of offers to draw comics for other companies. I turn them down at this point because I am busy teaching art online and working on my own comic. I still would like to work for them at some point but just the pursuit has led to other opportunities. Hard work always pays off, just not always in the way that we expect. Good luck to you and never give up!

Back in the day when I worked as a assistant with one Marvel and DC inker they brought on a new penciler for the Marvel book we worked on. A friend of another Marvel artist at the time who recommended him. The editor gave him the book based on a couple of page samples. The guy sucked and couldn't handle a monthly book. I ended up redrawing the guys pencils and doing the full inks on the book. The inker I worked with at the time couldn't be bothered with the crap work.

As a writer, I find this advice a little frustrating He says send your work in but they say on their website that they dont accept any unsolicited submissions. So whats the deal? I have a ton of ideas that I have yet to find in the comics - not saying they're not there, I just havent found them - that I think would be awesome to see happen.
@Chroniclesofthenerds
@Chroniclesofthenerds 10 жыл бұрын
I think he means more send work that you've done that shows you're a published writer. If they like your work, then they'll ask you to pitch your idea. I hope that clears up the confusion.
@HorribleGamingFun
@HorribleGamingFun 10 жыл бұрын
and unfortunately thats the frustrating trick isnt it? No one will publish you unless you have an agent, but most agents wont look twice at you meanwhile, all an artist has to do is send their work in and chances are good that if they have talent they'll be noticed, yet they require no agent yet people forget that without a writer, comics are just pretty sequential pictures *shakes head*

@BLACKMAFIA410 College can't teach you creativity but it can allow you a space to work on your stuff and introduce you to the people who you can network with who will later break into certain scenes. But with the amount of debt you are likely to get into its sort of six one half dozen for the other. If you can afford it I would do it. If not don't worry so much.

Any college that will teach you literature and journalism. Literature will teach you to analyze stories break it down to its essence themes, plots, symbolism, things you will need to know to be an effective writer. Journalism will improve your grammar to Grammar nazi level and its also a good dayjob while waiting for your chance.

+awesomekid120 If you watched the entire video all you have to do is have a portfolio and a good resume to get into marvel just like any other job out there. If you're 18 I don't think it'll work, unless you already have some publish art and did some webcomics in the past few years to show your progress. A teenage marvel artist is pretty unheard of my man.

@MikeHuffam 9 жыл бұрын
+awesomekid120 Uhhh Ramos? For real? Sorry if I'm doubtful on you saying that. You need years of experience and working in other companies to be considered for Marvel my friend. Like Art College. Getting your out there isn't hard, but being considered by Marvel is harder than you think. It's not like everyone can do it. Take your work seriously and understand it will take longer than you realize to get where you want to be. Saying you can become a marvel artist right when you'e 18 is like saying you can make it to the NFL out of high school. It's not realistic bud.

It's total BS(as in unfair, not lies) that the chances of new talent getting a gig w/DC or Marvel nowadays is close to impossible. For one, I venture to say a lot of current writers@ the Big Two don't give a fig for the traditions/history of the characters - hence why they gleefully go along w/whatever BS retcons to canon that editorial comes up with. Meanwhile there are fledgling/undiscovered writers out there(such as moi😏) who've grown up w/these universes & the characters/canon etc. that populates them. Don't they/we deserve a chance? We can't all get their attention by first writing a New York Times-bestselling YA novel series, nor should we have to. What sucks most of all is that legally, you're not allowed to submit them unsolicited story samples/pitches featuring THEIR OWN I.P. - now in what other line of work would that make sense, exactly? As much as I am loyal to the Big Two(I've never been an indie guy, one or two exceptions aside), someone should have the balls to take them to court and force them to rescind the aforementioned clause, because it's a literal crock of sh1t IMHO.

The best way to get into comics these days, whether it's Marvel or DC, is be anything but "white" or "Asian," be trans, homosexual, hardcore far left Marxist feminist. Being a woman will also score you huge brownie points, especially if you are even a tiny bit on the cute looking side. Go to a convention where you know big Marvel and/or DC wigs are, and spout off about how much you despise straight, white, heterosexual, right wing, nazi, bigoted men and how much you hate Christians and the United States of America. Use lots and lots and lots of words and phrases like "white privilege," "problematic," "systematic oppression," "Communism," "Socialism," "Hilary Clinton," "Hetero-normality," "Sexist," "Chauvinistic," and "Bernie Sanders." If the professional doesn't respond to your conversation about any of these things, simply start crying as hard as you possibly can. Rip and tear at your own face until there is blood. Drop to your knees, spread out your arms, and as loudly as you can possibly muster (don't worry if it hurts or permanently ruins your voice) scream about how much you hate Donald Trump. Unless the comic book pro is Ethan Van Sciver, I promise you that the pro will immediately run to your side, embrace you while crying as well, and offer you the best job possible. It won't matter if you can't stand comic book super heroes and have never read, written, or given two shits about comics in your entire life...doing or being any of the above is guaranteed to get you a job. You might not get the absolute best top selling titles, but give it a month or two and you will soon land books like Spider-man, Black Panther, Captain America (if you spouted off about hating the United States, you probably won't have to wait...they'll put you on Captain America almost immediately), Avengers, and Thor. The best folks to do all this in front of are Dan Slott, Tom Breevoort, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Joe Quesada, and Kurt Busiek. No matter how much or how little talent you have, the bigger the far leftist victim you can make yourself, the more likely you will be to get a job.
