You need to have a fall back option is the most important thing of fishing doesn’t work out

Hi Matt, Been a subscriber for a while now and I love the content. Today, and not the first time, I was setting the hook on good bass but the hook was not penetrating through the plastic enough to pin the fish with a 4/0 EWG texas rig senko. Skin hooking senko and not a whimpy hook set. lost 4 out of 5 good fish! Really frustrated. Going to try a straight shank to see if that helps. do you have other suggestions?
@MattStefanFishing
@MattStefanFishing 3 жыл бұрын
What rod were you using? You might need a faster action rod or a stronger power rod. Also do you think the fish were spawning? If so they may not have been eating the bait fully leading to skin hooks and the lost fish.

Hi Matt, I'm using a decent budget Diawa AIRX731MHFB it says fast but it is more moderate fast. Fish were 12-15' deep in 4' visibility. Some tails were lightly worn . Other fish were dirt shallow but these were bigger fish (females) and I thought they may be staging. @@MattStefanFishing

@@tomleman6485 doesn’t sound like a spawning issue. You might want to try a fast action rod vs the moderate fast. That might help drive the hook home...otherwise sometimes it’s just bad luck and not something you did wrong

I think guides are also in the pro angler category. You have put out some great content on KZfaq lately. Can you please do a little break down on Dirty Jigs products. Solid finish at Douglas. Congrats

100% spot on accurate. Great honest answers for young folks wanting to be in the industry regardless of the niche they fit into. 100% accurate about the hard work and long hours to achieve industry success. A person will put in more effort achieving success in the fishing industry than any other career choice. In my opinion Scott Martin is a good example of an individual doing all 3 mediums well..... Tournament angler, You tuber, Industry Sales. Long story, too many details. I was living in Clewiston when Scott was an up start tourney angler, back when he was referred to as..... 'Oh ya, Roland's kid' Johnny Schultz is a great example of you tuber who is really good at tourney techniques, you tubing and teaching. I look for that kid to do well. Thanks for sharing your path to where you are today. I to walked away from traditional employment in my mid 20's to chase fishing, never competed on the national level. Local/Regional Tournaments with guiding mixed in. Loooooong story, short version. In my efforts, came to the realization that I was not a good fit for the industry. Regardless of the perceived failure rhe journey gave me life experiences that I absolutely cherish today. Keep up the great work, this industry needs honest straight forward dudes like you.

Thanks for that great comment! I think everyone should pursue their passion in life and make decisions on their future from those experiences. The last thing I wanted to do was look back on my life and think what could have been had I tried fishing and instead lived an unhappy life in the corporate world. Believe me I question my decision after every bad tournament and then remind myself how much more fruitful i think my current lifestyle is. Thanks for your support!

Matt, you made the comment towards the end of the video that there is things you don't like about the job that you have to do. Could you explain that or maybe make a video on behind the scenes things about pro angling that we don't see or don't know about. I'd curious hear about that! Great video

These guys put in so many hours, sacrifice a lot of social life to be successful, and they aren't making a killing. Pro Fishing seems to be more of a passion/addiction, meaning they don't have much of a choice other than to put it all on the line to pursue pro fishing.
