There are so many areas that you can begin building a top whitetail parcel. The old school and ineffective way to build a whitetail parcel was to create habitat improvements where they fit within the land, and not within the flow of where deer should actually eat, sleep, drink and move safely on on the land. Like the house that you live in, the flow of any deer parcel should begin with food. Food established where does bed, bucks bed, the daily deer movement and then of course how you access the land and finally where you hunt. This is the same concept on public land - find the daily food source, and then you can begin to unravel a mature bucks entire daily movement. Did you begin your parcel the right way? If not, here are the steps that you need to begin with, so that you can lay the foundation of the best deer parcel in the neighborhood, this Fall.

I have never heard anyone broach the subject of deer habitat as the equivalent of designing the layout of a new home... Absolutely genius. That makes perfect sense.

I try to use these type of analogies with my clients so the concepts hit home, great to hear this one makes sense to you! Most habitat guys do not flow their improvements together or have a system of habitat design like this. Unfortunately the old school teaching and even university study, teaches landowners to make improvements based purely on the best spots to build habitat improvement features with no care as to how the deer movement can be highly defined by those improvements. Random. The house analogy likely would make sense to most, but it is so critical in the understanding of professional whitetail parcel design. No difference than how a good golf course should flow, landscaping for a high end home...even a restaurant. You can't just have so bag of habitat tricks and then just drop them randomly on a parcel based on great locations for the land. The improvements need to flow, work together and be based on the ability to hunt at a very high level and manage deer at a very high level. Many parcel designs are doomed from the start, if they do not flow with the lay of the land, how deer relate to each other, neighboring lands, food sources, bedding areas and how deer relate to hunters. Anyways, appreciate the feedback Miguel...hope it helps folks out!

Have you ever made a video about CWD, management and mismanagement related to CWD and how land owners should manage in CWD areas?
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 4 жыл бұрын
We certainly are very soon! Two words may be in the title - overreaction and politicization. May actually feature the masked and hidden identity of a state wildlife biologist that works with it every day. "The truth behind the overreaction and politicization of CWD". Or something like that. Not that it is not important or serious...but, there is also an extreme, shotgun approach overreaction about it. Not really that much different than because of gun violence, we should eliminate all guns. Kind of that same mentality. I also believe the overreaction is disrespectful to the animal on some levels as well.
