Put the Pasti Dip cans in hot water before you spray helps it come out more even. I wash my truck 3-4 times a month and the badges have never peeled in 2 years.

I did this 6 years ago and still looks good. Be sure to spray several good coats then it peels very easy.

Had my vinyl guy do all my emblems in green to match our company logos on the sides. Same with tow hooks.

I did 6 coats on my daughters accord, and loved how easily everything peeled off. You did a great job and your paint booth is awesome as well

Short, sweet, and right to the point. Got a question though: Would Plastidip be okay for something that is touched often like door handles? Mine are chrome but I want to black everything out.

Good question, yes I think so. I’d do a few extra coats though. If you left the inside of the handle unpainted and just sprayed the visible side and being conscientious when you opened the door I bet there wouldn’t be an issue. I’ve also plasti dipped a whole corvette a few times ( different colors) and didn’t have an issue anywhere including the handles

Yep, Plastidip will be matte, you can buy some of their gloss/pearl top coats that will make it shine more if that’s what you are going for

Great Video. Thanks. But question here, for the Plasti Dip to "not-stick" doesn't the emblems have to be plastic and on a non-plastic surface? Ie: this works in your video (and looks great) because the emblem is on your car ie metal. But some vehicles now come with plastic painted sections and this is where the plastic embleb is. Am I thinking about this incorrectly? Sorry for the noob question. TYIA

It’s a good question. Good news is Plastidip sticks to essentially all surfaces. I have painted a corvette multiple times with Plastidip to change the color (Plastidip makes a kit for it). I have also done wheels, plastic parts, etc. if a surface is super waxed or something maybe it would be an exception. Otherwise it should work. It also isn’t permanent so if it didn’t work how you wanted it can always be peeled off

How long will it last? I know when people spray paint wheels it looks good at first but scuffs easy and peels easy. Same with spray tinting headlights and taillights. Was ju at wondering if it would be the same with plasti dip

I’ve had it least more than a few years at a time. Plastidip is also 10x easier to touch up. You can just spray over an area if it does peel and it will remold itself flat with a few coats. Definitely doesn’t flake like normal spray paint

Is doing the front the same process, or is it a little more difficult because of the grill?

Same process, you will just likely need to spend a little more time taping off the area

How many cans would I need to cover both GMC emblems (grill and tailgate), “Sierra” and “Denali” on the tailgate, and “Denali HD” on both sides?

I would think two cans would be plenty. I did the front and rear emblem on my truck with 1 can and had some leftover

Absolutely, I go to automatic car washes with brushes and never had an issue

I have a 2024 elevation. I’m wondering does the transmission shift hard from 1st-2nd and also on the downshift. Dealer said it was normal

Mine doesn’t do that consistently. It definitely has a few times over the years but I also have the 8 speed vs the 10 speed that is standard now. With those things I just like getting a GM dealer receipt saying it’s all fine so there is proof later that you brought it in right away Overall I haven’t needed any transmission work with it having happened. At 72k mikes now

Can this be done on the body letters as well? I just got a denali ultimate and i hate not having all vader chrome on all badges so I'm either removing them or doing this

I am thinking of doing my front emblem but keeping the chrome to make it pop. Would you recommend taping off the chrome or praying that too and removing the plastidip?

Taping it off may be the best bet. I would need to go look, but I would check if there is a gap between the chrome and red portion. If there is a gap it would be easy to peel off the chrome portions after it is all painted. If not, I’d vote to tape it off

Mine lasted 2 years before peeling recommend the plasti-dip clear coat after that will really keep it from peeling

Yes and yes, you can also get pearl/gloss too. I believe on dip your car’s website you can order custom colors… at least you used to last time I looked. Either way, tons of color/finish options

It will last as long as you do a good of job making nice even coats. I’ve had some body parts painted for about 2 years (before selling the vehicle) without issue. Only thing I’ve ever come across was rock chips on a grille I plasti dipped, but you can touch plastidip up and it will blend together again with a few coats. They also sell kits to do you whole vehicle I have used successfully - but that’s a separate conversation

I did the chrome slats on the front grill of my Fusion about a month after I bought it and it still looked good when I got rid of it 5 years later

I’ve had it last a couple years (only because I sold the vehicle). If you do a few healthy coats it won’t go anywhere until you want it to, car washes and all

@@totallytubular3225it’s pretty easy if you applied enough layers. Just intentionally rub it with your finger and you can start getting an edge loose. You pull it off in a sheet after that.

If it peels off the paint easily, doesn’t it also peel off what your painting easily?

Once it sets it needs to be more intentional to start peeling off. Still easy to do, but not going to come off in a car wash or something like that

All the emblems blacked out are over 1000 CAD. I’d rather buy 2 cans @ 23$/ea
