Your videos have been a huge help. I like the no frills, shadetree production, and commitment to providing just the information required without attempts to show off how much you know about these cars. Finally got the thermostat housing/waterpipe(OEM) installed, system wasn't working correctly after all of that and then this video helped me properly bleed the system and make sure the temps stayed at/around 200-220F under load with Distilled water and the heater blows piping hot now. Don't know exactly how much a dealership or a mechanic would have charged for this, but I can guarantee it was more than $100 in parts and a few jugs of coolant/distilled water. Added bonus, I can now do this job with confidence and likely blindfolded if I had to do it again. Thanks a bunch.

So I replace a bunch of hoses after one of them got a hole and the others were on their way out. Opened bleeder for a while with the cap off and the car running then closed the bleeder and put the cap on and went around the block. When I got back the coolant dipped below the min line and had bubbles coming up from the bottom. Did I not let it get hot enough or leave the bleeder open long enough or something else?

Hi, I had to replace water pump. First I drained the coolant. Got out almost 5 litres. Then after installing new pump I added new fresh coolant. But only got in like 4.8 litres. Followed the bleeding screw un tightening procedure to get in as much coolant as possible. Got engine running all good. But now in the expansion tank, on the section of the vent hose, there is coolant. Is this Normal? I wish I can add a photo. I wonder if there is still air in the system. Thanks

Hello!!!! I've recently replaced a water pump, head gasket and thermostat on my 2013 mini cooper none turbo, (cause)it was mixing radiator fluid and oil. After that I proceed to flush the radiator and as I go back to putting corect amount of radiator fluid and starting her up she does it again. Thoughts?
@PneumaticFrog
@PneumaticFrog 3 жыл бұрын
You replaced the head gasket and its still happening? I believe the issue is, you just haven't flushed all the oil out of the coolant. little bits of oil will still be in the system so flush it over and over until you stop seeing oil in it. best thing to do is to let it sit for an hour or so and let oil rise to the top so you can see if there is oil in it. if none shows up it means its been properly flushed. Look up Chris Fix Coolant Flush on KZfaq. its the one titled "How to SUPER FLUSH your Cars Cooling System" Very informative video ahah.

Great videos! I replaced my thermostat and the engine is still overheating. I think I didn't bleed it correctly or enough. How many times did you bleed it? Did you ever have that issue. I checked for leaks and didn't find any at the water pump. So, hoping its the air being trapped.

I'm a mechanic, sometimes I need to close the bleeder screw rev the engine up to 2,500 Rpms and hold it for two minutes then go and open the bleeder screw, you might need to repeat this process multiple times , eventually coolant will pour out of the bleeder screw, if it hisses when opening there is still air in the system

What would cause your mini to not suck down any coolant? Water pump was known good before thermostat replacement. Now it doesn’t take any water. Including if allowed to go up to temp.

He refers to the climatronics when he says AC i think. Fill up the coolant reservoir, open the bleed screw till all air has escaped and a little coolant trickles out. Start the engine with the heater on max temp, bleed till no more air bubbles come out. Feeling if the air from the vents are hot will be your telltale that your heading to the right direction. Drive vehicle making sure its enough distance to have thermostat atleast open. Repeat process if needed... do this daily and haven't had a overheat yet.

Anybody doing a t-stat housing is crazy if you do not do the plastic water pipe as well. It runs under the intake manifold from t-stat housing to the backside of water pump. Mine was disintegrated from heat cycles and had obviously been leaking.
