Long time Lumenzia user here, but with Covid lockdowns and so on I haven't shot much for 18 months, and Lumenzia has had a few updates since I last used it. One of these quick refreshers of the overall process for a classic landscape exposure blend, with 'new and improved' Lumenzia, would be fantastic and much appreciated! 🙏

The workflows haven’t changed. There are new capabilities, but none of the old stuff is broken going back to at least v6.

Thank you. You can adapt the workflow I used by swapping Quick Select for Polygonal lasso if the Quick Select targeting isn’t working well.

You could also try exposing for the outside, then use your flash to over expose the window, set that layer to darken mode and paint in the window. This works quite well if you have furniture, plants etc covering part of the window. Nathan Cool explains the technique very well.

Flash (“flambient”) is definitely a common and useful trick for window pulls.

Hey Greg! Thanks for the video, just a quick question. I updated the 9.2.1 version and when I click on the pure blend option for my layers, I'm not getting the option to click "align". Is there something I have wrong in my setting?

Not offered if you have Smart Objects, as PS does not support alignment of them (sadly, would be very powerful)

Would you recommend merging bracketed images in LR and then bringing a single image into PHSP as a smart object for this kind of work? No need to rasterize to align for example. Then you can turn the smart object into the exposures you need?

That’s ultimately like using the original RAWs, but with more risk and potential for artifacts. I wouldn’t.

The border setting is in the Quick Export tab as well as in the overlay template editor, just depends which output method you plan to use. If you are on v3.2 and don’t see the exact same screen as me, you might have the free version of the panel installed (borders require the Pro panel).

What if there are parts of the windows that are super dark (trees, bushes right up against them) then other areas that are super bright? I'm having a hard time using luminosity for windows. And while the selection tool works well for windows, even the marquee tool, when it's front point perspective and there aren't chairs or flowers or artwork in front of the windows. But my goal is to use Lumenzia to make a mask of the windows without having to use any selection or use the pen tool or anything at all. I hope I get good at this software soon, but not enough people showing Lumenzia workflows for interior, sadly.

Same process generally, just more care when edges get tough. If the inside and outside match in tone, try to separate by color, if pixels are basically the same you’ll need to use a brush, pen, etc - luminosity targeting requires some degree of change to select.

Hey Greg, great video! When the photos were delivered to you, were they sent to you as standard RAW files? or were there flattened through a flat profile in lightroom then sent over? I notice the blacked have more dynamic range and aren't as "crushed" as you would see in the standard Adobe Color profile. Correct me if I'm wrong. I am interested to know.

One question. I am not quite sure whether I understand what double-clicking "minus" really does. When I tzry with my own image, select D3 and doubble click "-" nothing seems tom happen to the mask.

It will subtract from the active selection or mask. My sequence was more like D3, Sel, double-click. None of those steps directly create a mask, just a better selection to then make my mask. When you double-click, you should get a popup notice of the subtraction (unless you’ve hidden it) and a new history state in the history panel to indicate changes.

I did follow you until 3:51 after finish selection,I press L for luminosity mask as you said.When I tried to combine Luminosity mask with my selection(marching ant) by press Sel.The mask generate do not combine together with my selection.What I did wrong?

Would need to see your preview, selection, and final resulting selection. It works as shown when you use the same inputs, and assuming you don’t make a different choice in the popup (such as to ignore the selection).

No ideia what went wrong but mine got completely fake on the windows, I'm doing the lite version to try, but I'm pretty sure, even with the free version I would have an idea what would it be like..however I've tried to apply this in several photos and they all look totally different..If you please could help with any advice.. thank you so much!

Hi Greg. I recently bought an M1 Mac and when I try to install Lumenzia it doesn't work. Is it not compatible with the new Macbooks?

It is 100% compatible. You just need to run under Rosetta for now (gregbenzphotography.com/apple-silicon ). I’ll release a free UXP update once the platform has matured to the point that it supports Lumenzia’s needs.

How far apart are these exposures? ( on or two stops) and this seems a lot more easy and straight forward… anything I’ve ever tried ends up muddying and flattening parts being blended… why did this seem so simple ( or maybe I always somehow over complicate)

I don’t recall here, but a one stop change (per layer you blend) is about as far as you should go to avoid problems. Baby steps….

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on the blend. I go through the RAW processing in great depth in my Exposure Blending Master Course.

It’s been in every version for years. If you are using CS6, you’ll have to use the keyboard shortcut (shift click buttons like “L2”). Lumenzia LITE (free version) does not have support. BlendIf was removed from the PreBlend button, as blending via luminosity selections is always superior. But you can still do it- just select multiple layers and add BlendIf at once and then use the slider to adjust. It’s more precise than the old approach too (which didn’t allow intermediate values such as L1.75).

Wouldn't it be simpler to use the properly exposed outside photo and then increase the exposure on the inside? Window pulls always look fake by a lot of photographers. Surely increasing exposure to mid tones and shadows in the interior would be a much easier thing to do?

Brightening tends to be much tricker. Can be done with subtracted masks, but otherwise will harm contrast.
