The in place practice is brilliant. I'm an experienced swimmer, but I am helping a friend learn how to swim for the first time, and while his technique is getting good as long as he doesn't come up to breathe. Being able to practice breathing in place is going to help a lot. I have shown him how to exhale under water and inhale above while in place, but didn't think of including the arm movement to help with the timing.

This is brilliant. I found lots of videos telling me when to breathe in but not when or how to breathe out. When swimming I found myself holding my breath in between strokes and breathing out every other stroke. I need to practice doing it properly now...

No worries @Flum3! Focus on rehearsing in place so you can shut out the complexities of the stroke. Then you can start to feel the breath and find your rhythm! Good and bad practices happen but at the end of the day they are all part of your process. Consistency is everything! 🙌🏊‍♂️💪 Coach M

Thanks for the video coach. May I ask one question please? Do you actually breath out all air in lung before your head comes up and breath in? So essentially we only need to breath in when head is out? I was told by some other coach that I should leave some air in lung in water and breath out when my head is out in air and then breath in. So essential when in air I need to do breath out and then breath in. But I found it's quite difficult and takes longer to breath in. What's your opinion on this? Thank you in advance.

Whats the minimum air recommended to keep for better efficiency in breaststroke and freestyle even though olympians exhale all because they are going quicker in the water but we are looking for efficieny and less fategue . Thanks Mandy. Learnt lot from this channel...great contents.😁👍

I think I got the breathing part of breaststroke already. My question is, although i give ample time for the glide before the next stroke, how come I feel I glide so slow and not so far? Any tips on how to improve on this? Is it the kick prior? Thanks, Coach Mandy.

I'm an "old School" style breastroker that was taught in the 1970's (master swimmer - age 62) and trying to revolutionize my breastroke to the deep dive/glide style you are showing. My biggest issue has been taking in water from all the turbulence when keeping my head "low" to inhale. Any suggestions??

Coach Mandy, thank you so much for doing this video. A request satisfied 😊. Question: do I exhale fully before inhaling, or should I do it partially?
@SWIMVICE
@SWIMVICE 3 жыл бұрын
You will really feel how to exhale properly by practicing this in place and setting a timer for 2 mins without stopping. It’s never exhaling completely...but you are releasing a majority of your exhale because 1) you breathe often so you need to let go of the CO2 and 3) you need to exhale more in order to take in more O2. Breathing feels like a pendulum or a swing. The moment you exhale you release the air and as you rise up mid cycle, you let the inhale in...✅ Partially. You will be able to make these adjustments by practicing the rehearsal. 👍 Try it out and let me know how it goes! -Coach Mandy

So helpful for your video and your advice here. I have same problem, keeping air in waiting for finish of kicking (as my coach recommends) then exhale a little then facing up and inhale. Do you think it is the cause makes me so exhausted every lap of swim? Thank you so much.@@SWIMVICE
@PhuongNguyen-eo9zv

@@ngoctuyetpham2192I have same problems as you. My couch said that I should keep air while kicking 2 beats then exhale majority of CO2 as I rise up to inhale. But this way makes me feel exhausted only after 20 meters, my heart beats fast and I’m out of breath. So I think exhale imediately and slowly when under water is a better choice 🙋🏻‍♀️ I will try it tmr. If you have any experience, please share it. Anw thanks Swimvice for this useful video❤ It means a lot to beginners like me!

When I come up for air, I (think) don't have enough time to breathe in. As a result, I'm tying to inhale fast with one big gulp. That is affecting my rhythm. Is that normal?

I just started learning swimming. I am facing challenges in freestyle breathing (side). When I take mouth out to take breath I feel like balance issue and due to that I open mouth too early so water enter into it. Sometime I am able to breath one time but when I exhale after that I did not feel confident. Is there any suggestion for this ?
@SWIMVICE
@SWIMVICE 9 ай бұрын
Thank you for reaching out, and congratulations on starting your swimming journey! It's common to face challenges with freestyle breathing, especially in the beginning. One key tip is to practice one sequence at a time and take breaks to get it right. Focus on your breath, and over time, it will become more natural. Also, I'd like to invite you to join my newsletter. I'll be adding a breaststroke program to my SWIMVICE offerings soon, which can be a valuable resource for your swimming development. Go to: linktr.ee/swimvice to join. Keep up the great work, and you'll see progress! Best, Coach Mandy
