This was honestly super helpful cause I’m doing a 1.5jzgte swap into my 350z shell👌🏻 Currently finishing up the 1jzgte non vvti head just need to purchase new valve stem seals... what would you say would the oem GE pistons and rods would be safe to push off the 2jzge non vvti block? Debating if I should just wait and hunt down a set of gte rods and pistons

Did i understand correctly, if youre using a non-vvti 1jz-gte head & a non-vvti 2jz-ge block, there are no oil galley modifications required to mate the 1jz and 2jz pieces?

I would say youd be better off doing a 2jzge non vvti bottom end if youre gonna do it.

Thank you for the information on the vvti 1.5, I’ve researched for a decent amount of time ever sense I bought my vvti 1j just for future plans and never thought of the water pipe hight. I have a old 2j non vvti non turbo engine with a spun bearing I want to rebuild and do a 10:5 272 setup. How was the shim heights when you did those 272s?

I actually didn't mess with the shims. They're a shimless cam. Just drop in and go. Just remember to separate the intake and exhaust side lifters

The Rabid Rb thanks, I read on the BC website that they required 0.08 intake and 0.10 exhaust clearance for the 272 and the 264 was “plug and play” but if you just threw them right in I’ll do the same. Did they need to be degree or just set at 0 TDC?

Does that affect the effectiveness of vvti ? I'm in process of doing the same build, however thinking of running stagered cam setup from Kelford cams here in New Zealand. What ECU are you using? And can you do a video on your updated fuel setup please and thanks.

How was wiring? Any differences in wiring it or did you keep the same wiring and just plug everything in together? I have a 1jz vvti already and I'm not too sure how much longer my block will be able to handle abuse so I'm trying to prepare for a 2jz bottom end for it. I'm about to buy a brand new harness for my new standalone but want to know if it'll still work with it without having to cut into it and rewire stuff

Im 3 yrs too late. But I have a 2nd gen GS300. I'd like to NA-T my 2jz and starting researching the cheapest way for some solid power. Was wondering if it's worth it to throw the 1jz head on my 2j bottom end since it's cheaper to source now than a 2jz head or gte swap.

Hey man so I’ve got a 2JZGE VVTI and I’m wanting to do a 1.5j but after watching this video I’m curious to know if you recommend a different route? The motor will be going into my 86 325es E30 and it’s my first build so if you’ve got any advice it would be much appreciated. I’m. It made of money so budget build.

The best thing you could do is find a junkyard 2jz non vvti and put your vvti head on it. Otherwise you'll have to limit yourself to a baby turbo and you'll be stuck around 350hp

So I have a vvti 2j block and non vvti 1j head. I’m going to run new forged internals so the tiny rods situation gets canceled out for my car. But I guess my question is for the vvti 2j block I just need to block off those oil points on the block like the non vvti already has ?

You'd just block it off, but since it's there, you can use it for your turbo feed if you get a 3 foot feed line

Hey man, I got a question for you, I have 1jz non-vvti, Do you think I can keep my block and swap to a 2jz non vvti or vvti head? Cause 2jz is pretty much 264 cams. Trying to avoid spending $700 on bc cams.

Would be far cheaper to just get cams for the 1jz head. You'll have to buy alot of extra stuff for the 2jz head

im doing a s13 and have a low mileage ge from a supra, its gonna be a daily driver at around 450-500whp, would you suggest doing 1.5jz vs na-t???? my only thing with the na-t is the distributer. i want to stay away from vvit with both na-t or 1.5jz builds.

Only do 1.5jz if you have the 1jz head. If you don't then I suggest getting a 2jzge vvti head. The vvti isnt bad like you think and helps with low end spooling. If you really don't want it, then you could just buy a 1jz head I guess.

You all good brother. Im building 1.5j vvti at the minute. I managed to get a 2j gte vvti block but my question is did you weld up the oil port in the 1jz vvti head that comes in diagonally and just left a round oil passage in the 1jz vvti head when you mated it to the 2j block or did you just leave it as it is??? Ive heard people say that it leaks oil if you dont weld up the space the oil port/passage comes across on the 1jz vvti head to the round oil port/passage, then other people say they just left it and it was fine. What did you go with?

Does anyone know the difference in height of the engines. 1jz vs 1.5jz vs vs 2jzna-t vs 2jzgte. I want the engine to fit under the hood, hence the issue. Contemplating between 2jzna-t and 1.5jz.

The Rabid Rb that’s good to hear gonna take the head off when I have time in a couple of days. Should I take the time to check for flatness and make sure it has a decent surface? Did you just send it? And stock gte mlg. Trying to do research and everybody claims it needs to be crazy smooth to use a mlg🙃

Its definitely worth doing a full 2jz vvti. If you have the whole engine, just build the vvti and call it a day

It's the pipe that sets between the waterpump and lower housing. You have to have a 2jz one if you do this, as they're longer. And no i didnt do any mods

Is this the throttle body off the 1jz vvti (JZX100). If so do you have the TPS of the non vvti? Mine is broken and i can't find one for the vvti. I hope you can help me out.

ok confirmed my suspicions. GE block to GTE head is the only way to do this. Theres a dead GE at the junkyard that's crashed. other than the block and crankshaft, what else is good interchangeable?

Both blocks are pretty much the same apart from the oil pump, squirted and oil return.

All depends. Lots of parts can be had for cheap if you buy used. If you buy everything brand new you're looking at a little bit 3k max, but nothing compared to completely building an engine, or trying to get a 2jzgte

Meaning rebuilding the engine too, what I heard is the pistons for the GE are made for higher compression because it’s NA so i would have to put GTE since they are also stronger?

If you're planning on na-t your vvti engine, you'll need rods and pistons from a non vvti ge or a gte

The Rabid Rb are there any specific turbo kits that you would recommend and I also want to a manual swap the r154 are really expensive to what I find and I’m pretty sure the w55 I think for the is300 doesn’t handle much power so I’m thinking a 6 speed from a 350z
