Today is December 22nd 2019. After being drug through a miserable divorce, losing my wife and son to a wicked mother in law and having to pay 650.00 a month to see my son every other weekend, Lawn Care is going to help me get my son back. It's going to take a few years, but Stanley, with what you and a half a dozen other guys have armed me with in the knowledge of lawn care, I thank you. It's going to be tough, It's going to be hard, And I'm looking forward to every minute of the transition from being a slave to a local freight line, to being a business owner. Thank you for all do 👍

So im up in ontario, we've been running our lawncare business for 3yrs now And from the get go, I've been pricing things per sqft Figured out our monthly expenses for house & business. $5500+/- Nicole(Gf) and myself wanted to work 80h and have that paid. Works out to 70$/h +/- Gardens, mowing, etc So I figured out, how many sqft I can cut in 1h with our SP 21" mower 8500-8750sqft in 1h. (70$/h ÷ 0.008[$/sqft]) Especially when you're running larger equipment... but pricing based on those numbers.. Cuts time by half.. or a 3rd, easily Remember.. on a 52" mower, you can cut 3-4 acres PER HOUR 1 acre is 43,560sqft The math formula for mowing is (Sqft of the yard) x 0.008$/sq =yard price

We have about 150 residential Lawn clients and most like their lawn done weekly. And we have 2-3 other groups doing Landscape jobs while we get the lawn done in 3 days. People underestimate how profitable landscaping is.
@davidwoermansr

Anything you put your mind and heart into can be profitable but in cities people take pride in their yards especially the ones that own instead of renting and landscaping seems like an overwhelming task for most people and they want a professional so it looks better so yes landscaping can be very profitable

I do 75% residential and 25% commercial. My commercial accounts are on contract and I do carry workers comp and insurance. I used to do contracts with my residential clients but have since dropped that and have done better without it. If a client wants to back out fine, if I want to back out fine too. I live in Florida and it’s pretty much year round with not much slowing down so we stay busy enough with the lawns. I do offer planting, mulching and I have a licenses for pests, weeds and fertilization as well. I’ve learned that I do better financially with offering more for the clients I do have than chasing new ones down.

When I first started I was subbing all my chemical apps to a company... well the owner was in town and decided to give me a call as I was able to give him insight to profitable areas to solicit.. one day he invited me to dinner and we had a talk.... he explained to me he was getting out of lawn care maintenance and directly focusing on franchising startups for chemical apps... His lawn maintenance company, before he sold, did a average of 12 mil gross in sales.... he had everything most companies could only dream of... huge shop... fleet of vehicles and equipment..... but the headache of lawn maintenance and a net of far less than a mil with over 12 mill gross was not worth it.... he sold off assets and reinvested in a new startup. ...franchising chemical application company... similar to trugreen etc ..... if your going to shoot for the stars cutting grass will not get you there.... it may be a steady stream of income but you better diversify into other aspects or you will be miserable juggling major overhead/cost, employees, sales and taxes with only a fraction of gross earnings to show for time and hard work.... the mowing industry is stagnated for over 20 years.... it's a good first base but hard to hit a home run.... I see smaller outfits net just as much as some of the larger companies with far less headaches.... remember with (lawn maintenance) bigger isn't always better

Is there any reasoning behind not excluding the house or driveway in lot sq ft? Is it just to help streamline the estimation process by not having to visit or look online at satellite maps? I can't imagine excluding those smaller areas would have all that much impact on overall price, but I don't do any of this kind of stuff, so little curious.

Stanley Genadek Landscape and Construction Business Pro I was gonna say contracts aren't worth the paper they are printed on but you just covered that.LOL Most of my stuff is tree work so I'm in and out in a day usually. Paperwork just turns into a fuss. I give them a written slip that says how much and how many. Very streamlined that even I can handle, but that's about it. If it a big project that I need money down on, then the contracts/payment schedule comes out. But that's for 10G's and up for the most part.

shogunMR Work on your price points. If you’re doing a landscaping job do not bid low. You’ll be there too long and end up losing money. Always focus on trying to reasonably maximize your profits. Careful not to take advantage of a client. Sometimes people won’t like the price and that’s okay just move forward and find your next client.

Good luck convincing them to spend money watering their grass so they can pay you to cut it if you're in a area where you're in multiple small towns I found a way to get a little extra business big cities good luck the trick is getting 1 town to do it and get a follow the leader thing going I got the chamber of commerce and the city to start a yard of the week contest and the winner gets 50 bucks off their city bill that month the COC is in for 25 a yard and the city is in for 25 unless they get other businesses to donate and most do it's a beautify the city thing that's also landed me city contracts on yard cleanups from code violations too and that creates another side hustle luckily I live in the country and can stash away piles of iron old appliances and such I can pile up till I have a load worth hauling all my chicken and goat pen fence has been free as well as lumber and tin for sheds you can build pretty nice shelters for animals with pallets and used tin 2 of our chicken coops are actually old campers too messed up to fix or sell and too expensive for people to take to the landfill so I gutted them pulled the axles and instant chicken coop

There is at best 8 months of mowing season. Quick math says 8x4=32 weeks of income. So if I want to make about 50k after taxes insurance gas etc I have to cut between 80 and 100 yards a week. For one guy that's impossible.

You can’t cut 16 lawns a day by yourself? Get the f*ck out of the lawncare business you pansy, I bet you only pick customers with shade on their property too cuz you don’t like the sun. Boo hoo, let me guess.. you have guards on your weedwhackers too?

I could not agree more. I avoid commercial property, they always take the lowest bid, worst condition, and usually want you to be bonded and insured. Residential is where it's at! I do $40 minimum covers a standard residential yard. Acreage is $150-$250 per an acre I always spend more time on larger areas. We can mow 5 residential yards on one street in just over an hour and make $200, where as acreage it can take up to an hour or more plus drive time and only make $150 and sometimes less because of lots of weedeating for a large area. I agree 100% about no contracts either I do the same thing. If a hurricane hits like Katerina and gas goes to $4.00 a gallon and you have contract you are screwed!
@davidwoermansr
@davidwoermansr 2 жыл бұрын
I do mainly old country cemeteries and churches and a few rural residences with a 60 inch deck an a a pull behind 60 inch swisher it doesn't take long at all to cut 5-7 acres and I have a contract for everyone of them and the gas price is set in the spring when I have my 500 gallon tank filled and weedeating is a breeze with swisher wheeled string trimmers easier than a push mower
@dsimondublin
@dsimondublin 2 жыл бұрын
@@davidwoermansr good info. I probably use 500 gallons a month in fuel when heavy mowing so I'm not able to set prices on fuel. As far as the pull behind mower I've never tried one. I have a few contracts now, but for the most part it's just a mutual agreement. The commercial properties are still a pain so I'm leaning on residential as well. Best investment is a bucket truck. Tree trimming is a breeze and does way better than any mowing without all the headache.

not taking the price per square foot as gospel, is a very important point. Here in Maryland, you would not survive on that price. Want an inspiration....man, I can not even imagine making that kind of money. One of our biggest problems in MD, is finding decent employees. Even the large companies are having a difficult time keeping people or finding people that can do the job correctly.
