I took a chance and built the wall prior to receiving the unit which arrived sooner than expected and it fit right in the space I constructed. The heat output is perfect for the space we needed and made the room exactly how we envisioned it to turn out. I am happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. watched a lot of videos on building a mantel . I was ready to give up building one , and instead buy one . You show step by step how to build a beautiful mantel with basic tools and without a hundred clamps and $ 50000 shop . You are a true inspiration . Thank you .

Great job. Thank you for sharing. Never mind the negative comments. Just jealous individuals who can't create anything at all. Their idea of quality craftsmanship is Ikea! Not bad, pretty clean. I make mine a little different. I use to cut out the paneling but now i use 1x 1 1/2 strips and layer it on top. I also use poplar wood because I charge $2500 a mantle.

Love your video. Would love to see exactly how you set up the crown molding with the cleats. Did you glue then nail to the cleats? How do you figure out exact placement? Looks like it may have been more complicated than it appears.

Yes, I glued the nail to the cleats. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to explain the process by text. I hope the video some how helps you see in detail.

Nice design. Why not nail the panels on from the inside? no holes to fill that way.

nice video - first cut on video -- how thick is the wood and is that a mdf or plywood - and list on wood used anything is vinyl

Unfortunately, I do not know the name of the molding. The store's showroom had its own number for every item. If you live in Los Angeles, I can give you the store's name and its address.

I believe it's so the insert would be recessed back from front panel.

You are absoluetly right! The cut out part looks more inside (pushed back) than the front panel. This way it looks more fancy.

I don’t have the exact measurements but it is approximately around 1 ft . It depends on the whole size of the fireplace.

All materials were bought by my brother. I don’t know how much this is for sure. But I think around 500 dollars.

Naw, not $500 for mdf... for poplar hardwood and pine trim your looking at $400. MDF also know as medium density fiber board is extremely cheap. $200 at most for the materials used

Legs are too wide for that mantel height. The mantel should be the focus and the legs/surround accent it. Nice design though.

The Walmart of mantles, gaps everywhere, alignment of parts are off, cheaply made and wrong connections to the wall and subframe.
