During our van conversion for van living I was surprised at the skills and building techniques it took to complete it. Even a simple van kitchen design will have a kitchen counter. The flat area over the kitchen cabinets that many will use for preparing and cooking food. The skills in designing and building it can be transferred to almost every part of the van build. There were 4 different scribing styles, I had to build several tools and also some traditional wood working tricks and hacks to share. Because of the way we use our van we wanted an undermount sink. IKEA www.ikea.com/ca/en/rooms/kitc... had a nice 5 ½ inch deep stainless sink. When we’re traveling in the van for van life we rarely (never) cook indoors. We wanted a van to enjoy the outdoors, camping and boondocking as we overland around Canada and US, so cooking outside is just a natural thing. We use our counter top as a staging and prep area. Getting food out of our Dometic CFX# 95 LT fridge freezer cooler www.dometic.com/en-us/outdoor... and pots and dishes ready for the picnic table is the primary use. In British Columbia we like to boondock on forest service roads or camp in municipal campgrounds. Every province has fantastic provincial parks and BC certainly does too bcparks.ca/. Living in a van can have challenges just like any tiny home but being off grid with solar panels and 12 volt electricity creates such a wonderful lifestyle.
We loved our stay at the 8 Flags Campground at Mild River Alberta www.albertacampgroundguide.ca...
