Built this… had to trim 6” off legs to lower height so user had more headroom to situp in bed. This build will not work with boxspring. Had to add 3/4 plywood on top of mattress slats. Mattress was caving in between slats when user on top. Only used 1 safety rail vs 2. 5/8” carriage bolts were tough to find. Had to use galvanized to hold bedframe. Settled on 1/2” bolts to hold safety rail to save a few bucks.

The bookshelf/staircase you need TWO of the 44.5 inch shelf pieces. The instructions say one. Just thought anyone who is building this would like to know. Mathematically can still get away with only the three 2x12x8 pieces.

Would this bunk build be able to hold two people on top? Close to 300 pounds total, including weight of mattress? I’m making one for my dorm room this semester. Please respond back soon! I’m going to add a desk at the bottom, so I wouldn’t want the top to fall onto my electronics and what not.

What's the weight limit?
