All the fancy lasers and levels and whatnot in the world wont replace knowledge and experience. Add all that tech to said knowledge and experience and it becomes art. These guys right here are why I'd happily work overtime to afford to hire them, cause I would never be able to be that precise, just not in my skill set. I'm never going to build anything like this but its fun and fascinating watching a master of a craft work.

I use those wet set brackets in a lot of my buildings. They are nice but it's a rush to get them all in a pad that's 120 feet long before your crete sets up on ya. By far the best way to do post and frame construction. Keeps the post entirely out of the ground!

I'm going to be building a 32' x 48' building with a 12' ceiling is a few weeks. I don't have all of the equipment you have - I'll need help setting the trusses - but I'm pretty sure I can handle the rest. I built a large post frame run-in for our horses a few years back and set the posts 4' in the ground. I like the idea of concrete and brackets better 😊

"Coil inserts!!" Ive been watching for almost a year now, getting ready to build my first post frame, and I never knew what a Coil Insert was. ive even ran the numbers shown inside the tubes through Google looking for a match. Then today i heard you say "from the steel guys" and it all clicked! I called the local metal roofing company and they are setting some back for me!!! Love the channel and the detailed descriptions. Bought a RR shirt, just gotta dye my beard red and Im ready to start building!

In those days you had to sign up to an Indenture of Apprenticeship which had rules and protections for both the Indentured and the Employer, the kids of today need something similar so as to give them more of an idea of Rights and Responsibilities ?? It's neat to get an overall view of how you build, and then keep zooming in on all the individual details and why you do them. That's super important for me and how I learn. I wish we could build pole buildings like this where I work. With trying to achieve perfect square and plumb, there are too many variables that can easily get tweaked when you set posts in the ground. That's why I like this method. We have the equipment and the money to do it like this, I guess we just have guys that are used to building with posts in the ground.

I had a question with the piers, how would you get them to grade without the Stabila laser? Would you set a marker to a determined height and then use string lines referenced off of that?

Having watched just about every vid on your channel, perhaps all of them... I gotta say I really do appreciate the excellence, quality, and integrity you model. Bravo, big time! An aspect of the design for all your foundation concrete has me a bit puzzled tho. It is the lack of rebar to constrain the radial forces on the concrete piers. Typically, the concrete tube-shaped foundations for your building types utilizes hoops or spiral rebar in conjunction with the vertical and/or stabbed in rebar attached to the seat bracket. The concrete pier or tube foundation is subject to forces that can cause the concrete to naturally crack down the axial length of the pier, in a radial fashion. These cracks, if not constrained by radial rebar such as hoops or spirals, can expand over time enough to loosen the grip of the concrete on the anchoring devices such as anchor bolts, stabbed rebar attached to seat brackets, or expansion bolts installed after concrete cure. In climates where there is frequent freeze-thaw cycles, and over enough time, say ten to twenty years, the cracks keep expanding until the concrete foundation fails. The radial placement of reinforcement mitigates that problem.

Those are some pretty beefy brackets. Sure to hold the building in the strongest winds that aren't tornado related, lol. Anyway, thanks for doing a more detailed build series. Really appreciate it. One bit of information I thought could have been included is how deep you need to dig the holes for the concrete. It probably varies throughout the country due to climate and the frost line in the winter, but mentioning that might have been helpful. Thank you for taking the time and doing this series. Am excited to see what is ahead.

Post hole digger @ 6:20.... We Used those alot in the 1970's.......fence building days..... Wish we could afford a bob cat & spiral auger back then..... But a lot of areas where fence holes had to be placed ; there just was not enough room to use a cat. At least we had the two man gas powered with auger attachment.....

Any additional input on where you are getting the cardboard tubes? I have checked with a couple structural metal suppliers and no luck. What type of metal suppliers are they coming from?

$2 bucks a piece, wow that's a giveaway. Just bought 10 tubes from Home Depot for deck footing. 4 feet by 1 foot. Cost is about $12 a piece.

Wish there was a little more info in setting the brackets in the mud. Making plumb and square and setting the height.

For the amateur home builder, if you are going to tackle a project such as this, invest in one of these laser levels, a tripod, and rod. And buy a construction theodolite/transit. Learn how to use them (it's not difficult) Because these are going to come in handy for other projects down the road, especially since a survey crew is expensive at whatever it is per hour with a half day minimum. As a percentage of cost per project, you can make your money back and then some per project. Leave the surveying to disputes and buying/subdividing land.
