Welcome to the final episode of the gold mining trommel build. In the video I am back on the lathe machining some parts, welding away and having fun. I had a blast making this video, from editing tricks to some killer B-roll. There are still a few odds and ends to get it 100% done but I am currently waiting on something special to come in from the USA to finish it off. I hope you all enjoy the video and hope to see you on the next one:)

I like how you clearly tally costs and time, letting anyone put whatever value on work when they ponder doing something like this. Fascinating build. My dads homestead is sitting in gold-country and I have pondered if it would be worth it trying to get it out of the ground, this series told me that I would have to spend a years wages just for materials, tools and time to build the stuff that I need if I ever want to go beyond a pan and a wooden wash-box, so clearly big mining is still just a pipedream. I think that I some day will do something of a smaller scale, like 1/4 or 1/8 scale since I would only have to deal with smaller rocks for the dirt I would deal with, and it would probably be something I could make withhout high-end stuff like plasma-cutters. I wish I had known what I know today 30 years ago, before we planted forest on top of the fields where I now know we got 5 inches of ironsand that got some gold in it about 2,5 meters below turf. Keep making videos about your builds!

Hey Andreas. Thanks for watching. A person can build a washplant alot cheaper then this one. Even though this is a very cheap build, a person can always go non mechanical, a lot like a big high banker. A person could put one together for well under 1000 bucks without all the fancy tools. Never think anything is a pipedream, think of it as a goal to achieve.

Great build, can’t wait to see it in operation. Not only should you include your labor in the value, you need to add profit. MSI prices their equipment to not only cover the costs but to put profit in their pockets. You need to do that too. That money helps pay for your extensive, first hand knowledge gained from years of experience plus R and D. It also helps to cover the costs of broken equipment replacement/upgrades. Never sell yourself short, you’ve made huge investments in equipment, training, and experience. That has value, your skills have value, your experience has value. Well done, can’t wait to see more

I can't hardley believe that this piece of equipment has come together for you in just a few short videos, and I do think you need to add the value of your time into the overall cost, but at the average rate for a welder to keep it simple. Can you believe were almost through February? You will have this painted and running before you know it! Being a Nebraska flat lander, I am very interested in seeing this used in the field soon. I hope your having at least half as much fun as us watching, then we know your happy and doing what you love. PS. The edits are alot of fun, keep doing what you are, and we will keep watching. Peace.

Time is 100% money. But as you said it was all your own time and as such you dont have to pay all the extras that employing others costs. I like how you did it with the cost of materials and your time being seperate. That way people can do a rough estimate for whatever they think their time is worth if they are wonsering what this sort of a build would cost them. Im sure you know what your time is worth but everyone has different ways of calculating that for themselves 😁

Very nice! I'm sure Dan will put this to good use. Hopefully he will get his permits sometime before winter so we can see this bad boy in action. As to adding your hour wage.... I wouldn't. It seems to me this is more of an educational video and welding costs vary widely depending on where you are and who you use. By providing how many hours it took you to build it a person should be able to adjust that to fit their skill level. If they hire a welder to do it the hours it'll take will vary widely yet again.... I'm just basing on the fact that this is your 5th one and I'm sure your first 1 or 2 or even 3 took a bit longer as you refined your design. Now on the other hand if you intend to take orders from people to build for them... well that's between you and your clients.... not us. 😉 Thanks for taking along on the ride, Im looking forward to your next video.

thats fantastic! amazing work there! i would love to make my own mini-trommel for use in my shop to classify materials into multiple sizes, all they way form 1/2 inch to 1/100 mesh haha. with maybe 5 screen sizes and a water recirculating series of bins and an overflow pond. so i could insert raw material, and have every size classified for searching later using a Saruca so i have better size separation for good flips and centers for gem searching and ore processing. i think it would be fine for it to be no more than 5 gallon bucket in size per screen section, since im not running a lot of material, but hand classifying is a chore, though a pleasure too. but a trommel would be fantastic for separating gravel sizes automatically. of course, if i could just re-create a Pleitz Machine like what Glen Worhtington in Arkansas has, i could probably just let it do the concentrating work for me haha, and nto need to even classify too much either. but, alas, my crafting skills are low, and i dont have a welder. perhaps if i could get a place to build them for me though, but would likely be pricy for hobby level gem searching. i already have my Gold Hog Multisluice for gold lol. so im set there.
