Hi Folks and welcome to Part 1 of this "how-to" build guide of my first ever Kyosho RC kit! It's the Kyosho Scorpion RC Off Road Racer, 2014 re-release rear-wheel drive (RWD) buggy. In this part, I cover steps 1 to 15 of the build manual which includes the construction of the main aluminium chassis frame, steering and the front and rear suspension components. I also fit the gearbox and an Absima Thrust B-Spec 21 double-turn rebuildable brushed motor.
After years of building and running Tamiya RC kits, I'm really excited to get this Kyosho buggy built up and running.
This fantastic 1/10 RC buggy kit consists of mainly aircraft-quality aluminium components. It promises to be a good running and strong, reliable RC car. I hope you enjoy the Build!
Another massive shout-out to my great friend, Barry of @Barry's RC Dump : / @barrysrcdump3557
...for sending this awesome kit as a gift. Thank you so much, Barry!

I just knew you would love this top quality beast Mark. Kyosho build great stuff, I've never needed any spares because they are tough little buggies. They build a decent boat to, out of 60 rcs we have the bettle and the ultima are my favorites. These kyosho kits are hard to find and wish they would make more like Tamiya do. They are more expensive but it's more than worth the money. They handle well and look fantastic, I finished building the big Tamiya knight hauler and I'm building a Scania semi now. The trucks are a long but enjoying build. People say they're too expensive but they are cheap for what you get . This will look great especially with the centre line wheels, bet you can't wait to drive this beast of a buggy. Great video mate and love your work.

Hello, Peter. Well, you know me too well, my friend, you were spot-on! Great to hear how tough it is, I hope mine is still in one piece after many bashes! Yeah, agree that more Kyosho availability would only be a good thing. But glad that I at least got this little beauty, and agree that you do get what you pay for. Wow, building those big rigs must be a long job indeed, so many parts to assemble. The initial cost is high, but I can see that the sheer amount of components that you get justify the price. Too right, I'm itching to drive my new Kyosho, weather and health permitting! Cheers, mate!

Hi Mark. I had the same issue with the front bar. I found that when I tightened it down, a little bit on each screw at a time to make sure it was level, it sat in place fine. The ridges are soft enough to allow it to fit in those bridges as long as you follow this process. Well done on getting that bearing in place, bloody tight fit lol 👍🏼

Awesome build brother Mark!!!!! Takes me back to when I built my Kyosho Assault. The only thing I didn't like is the friction/press fit rear wheels, that old nitro buggy didn't have reverse but the wheels still came loose unless I really cranked down on the wheel nuts, (no grub screw holding on the wheel hub, it was a tapered fit). All in all she's looking good mate!!! Soon it's body work, waiting to see how/what you did with that. ATB my friend to you & yours!!!!!

Hiya matey. Really enjoyable to watch, especially as I've just got to that exact step of the build of my Turbo Scorpion. It was reassuring to see that you had some of the same issues that I came across. I didn't think of filing down the sides of that bar at the front where the metal clamp bits go round. I just mashed them on with a mole grip. They are not quite exactly lined up with the mark on the clamp but hopefully near enough. Also I was concerned that there is a little gap between them and the chassis but you have got the same gap. One thing I did have issues with was the pre assembled diff. It was really rough to turn and I had a right old palaver to sort it out which you will see when my video comes out. I'm going to wait until I've finished the car so I can put a bit of run footage at the start and end like I did with the Volvo Hauler build. Hey we made it to 3 pubs last night which was good. Hope you're having a good weekend so far. The sun keeps peeping out so I'm wondering whether to go out with some RC's or keep building the Scorpion. Anyway great build vid mate. Best wishes to you 😁
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Pete. How strange that you got to the same point as me?!?! Good to know it wasn't just me with those issues. Yeah, I think it's OK if the front bar isn't exactly lined up, there is a fair bit of play in the front suspension, anyway! My diff was fine, I'm interested to see what was going on with yours! Good idea about putting some run footage with the build, all adds to the interest. Wow, 3 pubs in one night? Sounds like a whale of a time! Yeah, enjoying a very lazy weekend with absolutely no RCing for a change! Thanks for the chat and always best wishes to you my good friend!

Hi Mark, well that was thoroughly engrossing. It looks like it took up every ounce of your RC experience in putting this one together. The quality though from straight out of the box is amazing - is it actually ALL metal or what ? In a way Kyosho have kinda shot themselves in the foot ( in a good way ) in that regarding upgrades and hop-ups......there is nowhere to go. Very, very impressive kit. In some ways it reminds me of the Tamiya Sand Scorcher / Rough Rider chassis with all this metal, but probably even more impressive than those. I suppose both do come from the same era. Very much looking to part 2 of this build Mark. Cant wait. Have a great weekend pal...👍🏻🙂😁👍🏻.

Hello my good friend! Certainly needed a bit of thought and careful spanner work to build correctly. As I mentioned, I made a couple of rookie mistakes but thankfully noticed straight away. Yes, it is essentially all metal, the chassis sits on it's wheels with no plastic parts involved! I love the fact that Kyosho have continually upgraded the kit over the years, ironing out any little issues, so no need for upgrades. The buggy gets finished in the next video and I can't wait for you to see the finished item, I'm so happy with the results! All good here, pal, hope your Sunday is going well!

Hi, Mark - well, what a fascinating video! It's so different from building a Tamiya. The clear polycarbonate shock absorber gaskets are evil - why on earth did they make them clear? And those rear suspension arms are beautiful castings - they're so lovely to behold that it seems a shame to subject them to the rigours of life bolted to the back of an off road buggy! Still, it's very interesting to watch the build and to see the potential pitfalls, and how adroitly you avoid them : )
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Hello my good friend Del, and thanks for another (always) thoughtful and supportive comment. Yeah, those bloody gaskets! Arrrggghhh!!! They are almost invisible! Mi Mark, and now how do you feel with Kyosho? Less models than Tamiya and perhaps not so nice for the eyes, but quality and tech??? Ciao, Nanni

Hi Nanni! Oh, I love this Kyosho. Yes, less models than Tamiya, and the designs are definitely more basic, but the finished buggy looks so nice! The quality and tech are second-to-none. Ciao!

How precise do I need to be on centering the black steering arm? Mine's about a millimeter out - with the alighnment mark on one side in line with the edge of the aluminium and on the other side away from it.

Being only a mm out should be fine, You will be able to centre up with your trim on the transmitter! :)

Is it better/more enjoyable than building a Tamiya
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin. Hmmm, difficult question. The engineer in me really enjoyed the Kyosho build. But I have also enjoyed so many Tamiya builds, they generally go together more precisely, not so much chance of error. Horses for courses, as they say! But I did like working with mainly metal parts for a change, the quality shines through!

My rear Axle keeps coming out of place like it's too short or sum
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 2 жыл бұрын
I think it would be a good 💡 to take out both of the rear axles and check them side by side to see if they are the same length. If one is shorter than the other then obviously there is a problem with the wheel axles! Best wishes from Mark.

Me Mukka, that is one impressive bit of Kit!! 👍👍 I've never built a Kyosho either.... after seeing yours and Brent's, I WANT ONE! Fiddly bits and all. 😝 I should have listened to the RC Elf.... It looks like I won't be able to get a Wild One... 😭 This looks similar, but even better! ATB my Brother! 🍻🍻👊😊 Please check your email. Tina's Videos are ready! 😁

Thank you very much, brother Carmine! This is a treat to put together, those machined parts are so exact! I think you can tell how impressed I am. Sorry about your Wild One, but yes, I think this is a better buggy - wait till you see my take on the bodywork! Just watched the video from you and Chase. I had tears streaming down my face, it was so moving... ATB mate.

@@MarkBryanRC My GOD!! Isn't she incredible? Yes, I'm incredibly impressed with that Buggy. If the RC Elf is feeling frisky, I'd LOVE one. Funny, he originally offered one to me,but I was apprehensive, and wanted the King Yellow G6-01. I like it.... but REALLY want this! Believe it or not, I'm just down to Painting on the School Bus... but it's TOO COLD here to paint!!
