This is the final video in my "How to Build a Pole Barn" series. In this video I have some closing thoughts on costs, materials, do-overs, wish I'd thought about that, and other advice.
Here's link to the materials list and the Sketchup model of the barn:
www.redneckdiy.com/pole-barn-p...
At the bottom of that page there's a link that will take you to where you can download this information.
You can get a free version of Trimble Sketchup here:

Watched all 8 videos. Plain-spoken and easy to understand. Outstanding detail. I am a man of moderate construction ability and this has reminded me I can do this sort of work, and have before in my young life. If I take my time and plan ahead I'll be fine. Thanks for restoring the confidence in myself.

I thought I heard a Tn. accent on your videos. We have a little farm just east of Knoxville. I've been doing landscaping and tree work for the past year but we haven't worked in over a week now with all this weather. I'm so dang tired of wet weather I cant wait for spring to get to building and planting. Glad I found your site, you do good work.

Thanks, Greg. I appreciate the compliments! I'm really glad to have this thing done. Well, kinda done. I've spent the last couple of days assessing the things left to do. Trim, siding, doors, etc. It will keep me busy this summer! This weekend I leveled up the floor with a couple loads of dirt and spread about ten tons of crush & run. Then I poured about six bags of Portland cement on it, wet it real good, and ran a compactor over it. This morning it was hard as can be. Poor man's concrete. We'll see how it holds up over time.

I was hoping to start mine shortly but am having a hard time to find someone to do the site work first. Unfortunately I have about a 3' or so drop in the 48' distance from one end of it to the other and pretty much no other location for it to be of benefit. Once again great work.

If you remember, I placed a comment early on in this series of videos. At that time I thought your videos and work were fantastic. You never let me down. All the videos from part 1 through part 8 were all encompassing with valuable information throughout each episode. I'm sure I will never build a poll barn. At 71 it's a little late for me to do that kind of work but I do plan to build a storage building for my 4-wheeler and trailer. Probably 12X12 or 12X14 and the ideas and techniques I've learned by watching your series of videos will really pay off. Thank you so much for taking the time to help everyone who aspires to build any structure.

Thanks for checking back in. I remember you watching and commenting on the previous videos. I appreciate you watching and I really appreciate the compliments. I hope the series helps folks out if they try it on their own or at least gives them an understanding of what's involved if they hire it done. I'm glad you haven't put your tool belt down yet. Good for you at 71! If you were close by I'd come over and help on your shed. We'd have a big ole time!

***** You may be closer than you think. It sounds to me from listening to you on the videos that you may be from Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee or Georgia. Not sure where you are but I'm in Mississippi. You probably noticed that my storage building has gone from something smaller (8X10 or 10 X10) to 12X12 or 12X14. It doesn't make any difference what size I make it, I'll have the same problem you have, it will be too small. I'm like you though, I want to do it by myself. It's the satisfaction of accomplishing something and knowing you did it without help. I'm not going to go so far as to cut down the trees and mill the lumber myself. And mine won't be as high as yours and I'm thinking of a lean-to roof. Flat with a slope from front to back. The things I've learned from watching your videos will come in handy no matter what the size of the building. Get is square first and get the holes level and so much more. Thanks again.

I am in the process of planning a 30x30 pole barn myself and have been searching the internet to get ideas on the total process. Not too many none company people take the time or make the effort showing others the beginning steps to the finished product in which they went about planning and carrying out the building process like you have done and like you I don't want to hire someone else to do the building process; I want to do it. I personally want to thank you for taking the time for documenting then sharing your project and techniques in all 8 of your videos which I am downloading as I type. Your videos have answered a great deal of questions I had from the first step to the last. The only draw back I will have in my own project is that I am a truck driver on the road for a good bit of time but after seeing your videos I now know how I can have a good quality pole barn just doing a little at a time; step by step paying attention to detail. You would make a very good Instructor or Teacher. I have spoken to salesmen in my area about purchasing a pole barn kit and they all tell me I need a concrete pad but I believe that a gravel pad will work better for me and save me money. Question: I noticed you didn't do a concrete pad; to save money or just didn't want one? Thank you again.

Feddie- I wish I had had this instruction about 10 yrs ago. I built a barn for a lady back then and I really thought I was gonna lose it from thinking/worrying about all the little details that kept jumping up to bite me, not to mention all the sleep I lost. I'd wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning and the brain would engage on the details of this project & I just could not go back to sleep. This is a fantastic series and I enjoyed it immensely. The side comments are entertaining, I guess because a lot of it is exactly what I would say. Oh- one thing I might do differently is pour concrete pilings in sonotubes, set some brackets in them and then bolt my posts to that. I read some of the comments on the posts rotting and that change might help with that. Keep up the great work and Semper Fi.

Hey Feddie. My name is Mike and I've been watching your pole barn series throughout the winter. Great job on the pole barn. I like the way you framed it by notching the posts and using the bookshelf girt style. Getting ready to start my 32x 48 as soon as the weather cooperates. Im in upstate ny and the frost is still in the ground. You helped keep me motivated this winter watching you. Like the way you think , and how you take your time making things square, also like your idea of getting the posts on the same plane by adjusting the concrete. Im going to try to utilize that as I will be going at it mostly on my own. Thanks for the series, lots of good tips. Keep up the great work!

I watched your complete pole barn video series. You said if you watch it now or 5 years later... It is actually 6 years (2020) and it is still an awesome series!

Just finished watching all of the vids on the pole barn. Hands down you did a wonderful job on the down to earth facts on the project. But the truth is what kept me watching all the shows is, Hey I am from Georgia and brother YOU are ever bit just as country as I am, and it was just a joy to watch and laugh at some of your comments that I TOTALLY get . Thanks so much for your efforts and keep up the good work!

Well done sir!! I've never seen anyone cut the poles and notch em before putting them in! I was very curious about that. I am impressed, and think you did a fine job!
