In this rather long video. I show you how to build a lean-to style shed into your existing shed or home. This is a long video and I tried to detail as much as possible. FLOOR JOIST VIDEO: • How To Build a Shed or...

Hi nice build. Lots of work involved. As a matter of info... your window framing should also have two king studs, top to bottom, as well as 16" on center cripples in the bottom void of the window for sheathing. The top plate of the double top plates should be cut so as to permit attachment of the neighbouring wall to anchor into it from the top plate. Short or long depending on the anchoring. Makes for stronger wall structures. You are doing a great job overall and I think this structure will withstand the test of time.
@geraldpatrick94632 жыл бұрын
You spotted the very things I noticed. Lack of cripples for attaching sheet goods under the windows and the lack of double top plate to tie the short and long walls together.

Planning my 1st shed, 8x12 and a separate "porch" for work space... You're giving me ideas here. Trying to do the math if I place a 2x4 at the wall areas in the anticipation of maybe replacing floors in the future. Probably overthinking it but wondering if there's a good way to do that

Hey I love this. I am wanting to build something like this on the back of my garage for a garage gym. I was originally going to put a slab down but it is pretty expensive. How has your flooring held up from rain and/or do you get damp floors from under it? Thanks.
@Archifx3 жыл бұрын
Just as good as the day I built it. I’ve built a lot of them like this. It’s a solid design and I probably have about 6500 lbs sitting in it at all times.

I've seen so many lean to shed videos and most advise to have a more "slope" roofing. Has the rain been an issue? Ty
@Archifx2 жыл бұрын
None. There’s still some slope.

I would have staggered those plywood sheets on the floor.

Yep... if it were larger. Definitely. For this particular application (light-duty) worked perfectly fine. Has 2 riding mowers in there. Good advice.

@bobcole38522 жыл бұрын
I would have staggered deck boards too... Plus, with "crazy rains in Florida " I would have figured out how to get more pitch on the roof. Also shoulda, woulda put a drip edge on the roof, under tar paper. You'll be replacing fascia soon enough. Lastly, cross/angle bracing on doors. They will probably sag. Looks nice, but the details of life separate us from the primates

Nope. Still going strong.

It looks like the slope of the roof is not steep enough for those shingles. On a roof in New York, the minimum is a 4 0n 12 pitch(1/8 pitch). We use what is called a half salvage roll roofing. www.iko.com/na/pro/building-professional-tools/roofing-101/minimum-slope-for-asphalt-shingle-roof/

Why didn't u stagger ur decking? And also why didn't u use top plate to sister all the walls together?

Staggered decking looks like shit on less than 8’ run. No load on the top plate

@Griffen4273 ай бұрын
Not that it matters because it's a shed, but the pitch of the roof is way too shallow for shingles - should be tin or tar sheets...
@danbailey965 жыл бұрын
You are going to have leakage especially during the winter..... slopes below 4/12 pitch shouldn’t be shingled it should have been a torch down or rubber.
@Archifx5 жыл бұрын
Already had a small tropical storm. Myth. Zero leakage. I’ll do a video next hurricane to prove it. I did this slope on purpose to show it’s a good solution for small roofs. I wanted to debunk the slope minimums. Good comment but this was my experiment. Seriously. Sub my channel. Going to do the torrential downpour rain video this season. 👍👍
@danbailey965 жыл бұрын
Fix It Now you may read my comment again if you live in a area with real winter weather ( very cold and snow ) you can expect ice dams and leakage also that looks like maybe a 2/12 pitch which is well below the manufactures recommended slope. My 55 years in the building trades will bet that there will be leakage. Of course you may know more then builders, contractors, manufacturing co. That produce the materials and engineers and architects we will see.
@Archifx5 жыл бұрын
@@danbailey96 haha Well, in FL The coldest day is about 38 degrees. Won't need to worry about ice dams. If you live in a cold climate other than the armpit of hell called FL, increase your slope. You will, of course, need to jack your existing shed up high enough to compensate for the higher slope. Manuf. can recommend a slope all day long. I get it. I know it's under the minimum (I can read) ... doesn't change the fact that in the physical world, there is no leakage or water holding in this case. The roof is only 17' long x 10' wide. Water falls faster on this small roof than can be collected. And, as mentioned. I am going to do a video during our next TS or Hurricane to prove it.

I did build my dad a massive 24x16 system similar to this and they have an 8x8 hot tub sitting right at ledger for past 3 years with no issue but I do see where I could improve. Thanks for the insight. Sub me. I’ll do some updates etc. nice meeting ya 💪👍

One the roof the material you laid down on top of the OSB is called ROOFING FELT if you are showing the correct way to roof at least use the correct terminology. Now proceed but I will be watching and I have 40 years experience.
