Hi Dan, I didn't see this comment until just now. The main thing to consider with Solar is their weight - You want to make sure that your building has a few extra lbs of roof load to handle them - This is mostly a permitting and engineering concern - it shouldn't add much cost if any to a 40' wide building - assuming PV panels. There is a lot of fastening options depending on the roof system. Standing Seam is easies to install solar panels on but Standing Seam is a lot more complicated to install than a regular through fastener roof. A through fastener (Screw Down) roof will need stand off clips and sealants - usually the company providing the panels will include this and it's very standardized. We can supply specialty brackets that attach to the high ribs of our standard panels which allow the connection of PV Installation brackets but it is usually preferred to attach through the pan section of the panel for a more secure attachment. Always preferable to not have any grout if possible. Depends on the scale of the project though, anything 60x100 should have the correct concrete tolerance to not need grouting - just some minor shimming - Larger buildings often plan for the use of leveling nuts and grout on the BPs out of the gate because staying in tolerance is a tall order on the foundation crew. So they assume a couple of inches to eliminate excess shimming or grinding. Really depends on the project. Thanks
