STB is a pretty good class, I took it a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't go into the deep weeds, leaving many people overwhelmed. It just covers stop the bleeding as SkinnyMedic stated... 3 things, TQ, PB and wound packing.

I literally just took the class the day before this video went up. Talk about serendipity! After taking the class I picked up a few Jacob Kits for the home, car, and workbag. I recommend it over the official Stop the Bleed Kits if yourself and your community are on a tight budget and can't afford the Stop the Bleed kit and replace it every 5 years. Definitely take the class though! Lot's of up to date techniques and insight into the first responder trauma medicine.

The best way is to do like in boot camp where you put together your rifle blindfolded. You don't have to be blindfolded with the bag, just everything goes in the same place every time, and periodically take it all out then put it back again to recall where everything is found. It's your bag, don't need more organization than that, and try to put first things you use on top like gloves.
@HealerWarrior

Took the "Stop The Bleed" Training in my area, it was free, short and to the point and trained by Paramdedics and Emergency Room Nurses. I then bought my supplies from SkinnyMedic and made a kit essentially what his video says...just added shears, breathing mask and gloves to also help with a CPR/AED incident. Great class, find one in your area or ask your Fire Department to put one on for interested (and tax paying) citizens....

I took “Stop the Bleed” at Timberline in Flagstaff, AZ. The instructor was a manager in the Trauma program at the hospital I work at. I was EMT back in the 80’s and ended up going to nursing school. Everyone should take this class. The Trauma program at Northern Arizona Healthcare is selling a NAR stop the bleed kit to the community for 50 bucks. If you are an employee of NAH there is a discount. The kit contains a CAT-T, SWAT-T, NAR EMT scissors, pressure bandage, compressed gauze, and nitrile gloves. 90 bucks if you tried to piece it together. Take the class.

Just one thing, I would add informations about gloves, because in my opinion, they are one of the most important items in trauma kits to stop the bleeding. You will work with blood and if you don't know that person which you are trying to save... you should wear them. It can be really dangerous for you. Anyway, really great video. More people should know about this problematic. Greetings from Czech republic.

could clear up smth please, do I need to/OR can apply pressure bandage on a wound which I stopped by applying direct pressure? will I make things worse for pressing on it with the pressure bandage afterwards? And could a hemostatic agent and pressure bandage on top of it supplant a tourniquet? I guess no... Ok. The last but not least may I ask why all hemostatic dressings warn of not removing it by yourself but only let it be done by a medical professional and second why they all have timing limitation of 24 hours i.e. if you are in the wilderness and no there is no chance to get a definitive medical help within this window of time then hemostatics are not appropriate? Please dispel my doubts if it is not too much trouble for you. I highly appreciate any advice you can offer.

SkinnyMedic my lady is a teacher and she expressed the idea of having a IFAK set up for the worst case scenario active shooter kit for her classroom. We would be talking about a kit designed to treat a classroom of 20. I've searched the internet for such a thing and it doesn't look like anyone has built out a kit for that specific purpose. Could I get your input on the best way to put together such a package short of spending 700 bucks ordering items individually? Any input you might have would be appreciated.

Generally if a limb is too small for a cat, you’ll be able to stop bleeding with hand pressure and or a pressure bandage. If small limb size is a concern, the SWAT-T is a good option, and is included in pre packaged kits like Dark Angel Medical and their mini trauma kit.

So I was thinking about 5 minutes ago and wondering: could you pack a hole with a tampon? It was just one of those random thoughts and then I come across this.
@abccde3832
@abccde3832 5 жыл бұрын
I saw either him or "PrepMedic" doing 1april video. In that video he uses tampon as a way to stop deep wound bleeding like quicklot and celox are meant to do. The thing is he was acting very 1st aprilish so that makes me think that Tampone into wound makes zero difference. (Doesn't help clotting, and is too small). If I remember right the quicklot/celox and other hemostatic agents are meant to stop arterial bleeding. What it means is that if you close the wound on the surface it doesn't help because it bleeds from deep within. To that end I have to pack hemostatic agent into the wound with contact to arterial bleeding source. I would think that even as makeshift packing tampone ain't doing shit to stop bleeding.

He puts them in his Skinny medic edc pocket kit. So for a compact one, it’s a pretty decent option. Still not going to be as good as a CAT or SOF-T with a windless.
@honortruth3600
@honortruth3600 2 жыл бұрын
They're not combat approved mostly because they aren't ideal for average sized adults (soldiers), but RAT and SWAT-T can be effectively applied to smaller diameter extremities than standard tourniquets can. So I keep a couple for such cases, in addition to the go-to CAT, SOFT, etc.

Emergency departments very much despise the hemostatic powders because they're difficult to clean out from wounds. If it's something that can potentially safely reabsorb into patient's body like Celox, it's a little less annoying for them, but they prefer the hemostatic impregnated gauze that's easy to remove later.
