Great video, gave me some inspiration just nervous to get started. I would add a few things personally, I would leave some spaces if possible on the bottom near the grill for accessories since we took off the side hangers and such, I would also have some counter come out from the main top and put some bar stools. I have some more space to work with in my backyard but those are my vision differences.

Great tutorial on the total build, gave me some inspiration for the plans for our backyard. Only suggestion I have is look into a lavaliere mic to make your audio more consistent in your videos.

How did you locate the studs behind the stucco? Will a stud finder work or is it in alignment with the interior studs? Would looking at it from the attic perspective help you locate them?
@MRGREGSHOWTO
@MRGREGSHOWTO 2 жыл бұрын
Hey partner! Those are good questions. My wall is the frame of a fireplace so I couldn’t align with interior studs, although that could work (so could attic). I would recommend a little guess and check with a small drill/nail before your project. I knew the outer studs would be there because they were framing the sides of the wall. The interior studs I just a happened to get lucky on (drove the fasteners in at a slight angle). Not sure how many screws you will need based on weight, but I used 5” timberlock screws which gave a great hold. Best of luck!!

We'll be installing ours tomorrow against a ledger board on our house. So excited! How did you hold up the structure against the house while screwing it in? Ours is 10x30, so I think we're going to do 10x10 at a time

Awesome, partner! We used the help of our camera crew and some neighbors. It is heavier than it looks. Be very careful and make sure you have enough folks to hold it up until it is securely mounted. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Any suggestions to DYI a waterproof cover? Retractable preferably or something that can allow light if desired. Any stain to give it more of an acacia wood color.?
@MRGREGSHOWTO
@MRGREGSHOWTO 2 жыл бұрын
Hey partner! Lots of options there. An easy transparent hard cover could be made out of plastic corrugated roofing panels, but that wouldn’t be retractable. They also sell some really nice kits that have shades that slide along stainless steel cable - that may be more what you’re looking for. Im sure you could find an acacia wood stain without too much trouble. Best of luck my friend!

@MRGREGSHOWTO
@MRGREGSHOWTO 2 жыл бұрын
Hey partner! Great name! For the wall brackets I used 4” TimberLok lag screws. For the floor posts I used 1/4” x 2 3/4” Tapcon concrete screw anchors. Your specific sizes may vary based on the needs of your project, but mine has stayed super sturdy with this set up. Best of luck to you!

How long did it take the wood to dry out and make it easier to slide in the brackets? Did you have to plane or sand?
@MRGREGSHOWTO
@MRGREGSHOWTO 2 жыл бұрын
Howdy partner! The 4x4s were freshly pressure treated so they took a few weeks in direct sunlight to shrink down. I do NOT recommend planing or sanding. Since erected the posts have shrunk considerably. I know it’s hard, but I would just play the waiting game or tap them on with a mallet if you’re close. Best of luck!!

@@MRGREGSHOWTO thanks so much for the info. What are your thoughts of using sleeve anchors for the posts?
@MRGREGSHOWTO
@MRGREGSHOWTO 2 жыл бұрын
@@saminasri2001 I think sleeve anchors would work great for the base posts. The ground is bearing the weight, the anchors are just holding the structure in place. Let us know how your project turns out!

Can you or has anyone tried putting a polycarbonate roof on top of these toja grid pergolas to stop rain. Want to buy one but no one actually on KZfaq has a video of installing a rain proof roof on these toja grid.

I’ve wondered for years and I’m old so it’s a lot of years. Why would ANYONE want to spend money on a pergola? It’s not on shade. It’s not a roof. Rain comes down through. And it is costly or can be. Why would one do this to one’s self? Huh?

I suppose if one just HAS to spend money on a wood run…… It’s an impractical luxury for sure.
