Mrs. Wranglerstar be reassured I installed and sold racking for a living a few years ago. Even the sungle stack racking is rated at 24,000+ lbs. He could store 6 full tanks that size safely. Have no fear, great videos and water tower. My wife and I look forward to all your videos. Keep them coming.

I worked as a yard attendant and forklift driver at a local mom and pop hardware store as a teenager. We had the same structures for storing everything from pallets of salt, concrete, bricks and cinder blocks. If the same rack can support 8 full pallets of concrete this rack will laugh at the weight of that water tank when full. It could easily hold triple to quadruple that weight. If the foundation stays solid there is absolutely nothing to worry about this setup.

I was going to say the same thing whoever was complaining about any possible hazards is completely ridiculous. I work at Home Depot and and flying multiple pallets more than 3,200lbs each and this 500gal water barrel is maybe 4,175lbs by itself I say there’s room for expansion.

Water is only 8 lbs per gallon, so 2 whole tons on something that could hold ten times that. People are dumb. Especially people who don't know how things work. One of the reasons why most of us don't want to live by them.

The people who usually comment are the ones who only find fault. Or the ones who totally agree. I enjoyed whole heartedly the intro to this video. Thank you so much for sharing your life experiences so that others can live a more fruitful life. I hate to say that KZfaq is the key to our economy getting better, but it is debatable. Excellent video!

Great job Cody on the rant, and let Mrs. W be reassured. If you want to really mess with folks simply refer to it as "pallet racking with a tuned-mass damper". Thanks for another excellent and unashamed video.

Well said intro Cody, too many want to lend their "expertise" (mostly with good-intent) when it's not needed. Judging from your other projects you've shared with KZfaq viewers, you work both safely and responsibly. And you think things through, first. Having worked around those pallet racks for years, I can attest to their strength. I think you've built a clever, and economical alternative to a "stick-built" tower. Nice work.

In the past I owned & used the engineered shelving that you have built your tower from. It's perfectly safe for the load that you've placed on it. People these days are almost incapable of changing a light bulb without full msafety gear & 2 people to hold the ladder. I'm off-grid in the Alberta badlands near Drumheller & built my tower from treated 4x4's , it serves as both outdoor shower as well as watering the garden & trees. I love being off-grid & self-reliant lifestyle. All the best.

I am thinking of putting up a Catch Basin tank for rain water off of our 30x60 barn,,which I should be over 900- 1000 gals from a ONE inch rainfall. I was thinking of cementing 2" pipe in the ground 4 ft deep and weld 4" channel on top,,but I think I like your idea better...looks sound and well designed. Love your view too,,here in south Texas we don't have that,,,,Jealous...;)

The shelf system you have for the tower is rated to hold a lot more weight then you have on it. You are correct, there is minimum danger of collapse. It is the same rack system we use in manufacturing shops and load them with a lot more weight. With that said, the feet of the rack have holes in them that were intended to have anchor bolts locked in a concrete floor. But I see no problem with your set up. I would use it.

1 small comment I loved the safety sally rant! Your right that beast is NOT going anywhere! Mrs Wranglerstar that set up is great it is well designed and well thought out. Those racks are designed to hold alot more then 2 tons. As to my 1 small suggestion. people talk about algae. add some snails ( aquarium snails. ) Here they are called "mystery snails" they will help keep the inside of the tank cleanish.

Great video. Thanks for sharing theprogress, and telling the Safety Sallies where to file their complaints. I would like to suggest switching to an all-drip, or all 'mist' system in those boxes. As you can see in the video, the spinnerheads are watering the sides of the boxes. They are meant for a larger circumference , with 'head-to-head' coverage. All the best, and keep up the great work. We are all learning a lot!

Hi there Mr Wranglerstar. First I would like to say, you have a great channel. It is the only KZfaq channel I watch consistently. Very inspiring. On the rack issue. I work in a grocery warehouse with this exact racking. We stack 2500# salt pallets in that rack, 3 bays high, not including the floor bay, without a problem. Ours are only single tube legs. I have seen them come down but it took a forklift running into a leg of a full rack. I dont think you have anything to worry about.

Great project. I am a Fire Apparatus Engineer- to get the max flow out of you system - I would take out all 45 elbow and replace one with two 22.5 with a 4 inch straight piece. You have good pressure but sharp angle will slow flow when using a gravity only system. The system you have now will cover your current need but you did state you will expand. I know this is unsolicited advice- sorry Keep up the good work.

With you 100% on the racking. I worked in a warehouse for 4 years while I was in undergrad. Those are the heavy duty racks, as you pointed out the uprights are doubled. Just for your information, those will hold 27,000 pounds. You could place 4 of your 500 gallon tanks on them and still be OK. And just because they are rated for 27,000lbs does not mean they wont hold more. Some racks held pallets of steel stock, 40,000lbs total, for all 4 years I was there without incident.

I think your ram pump is a great idea, not that many moving parts just one one-way globe valve and one gate valve much easier to identify problems with over a solar/wind driven pump. Your water tank and platform looks good to me, I would have done it identical to that.

I work in a book depository warehouse. Our racks are very similar, but they are very old and don't look as sturdy and reinforced as yours. A pallet of books can with 1.5-2 tons depending. The racks are fully capable of holding 8 full pallets each with 2 more on the ground. Before you mentioned it, I was going to recommend tying it in to the house/shed to prevent wobble. From a structural steel designer's point of view, your on the right track. Those pallet stands are tough, and should be more than enough for your needs. In fact, you could put another 500 gallon tank on that platform without an issue. Only thing I would have done differently is sink the legs into the ground about 2 feet and filled with concrete. That would be overkill, but that stand would not move unless a bomb fell on it. Your work is an inspiration brother.
