If you don't have much building experience like myself and you're looking for ideas on how to build a woodshed, I share my plans in hopes that it gives you a base to go by.
When I was searching online how to build a wood shed that would fit our needs I saw many smaller woodsheds. But we needed a large wood shed that would hold lots of firewood. I found another person's video and his build gave me a good base for what I needed to build. It was really helpful and that why I wanted to share our building plans with you.
Building a wood shed isn't difficult but you still don't want it to fall apart. You want your woodshed to last.

Hey! Thanks for posting this. A massive Derecho storm took out a tree on my property which squashed the old wood shed which was built by the old owner... probably built 30 years ago, so it was looking worse for wear anyway! I've been brainstorming since may what to do, and this shed is an exact image of what I was imagining! I have some cedar posts kicking around from a log tie staircase to the water I built. I also cut down a big ole cedar to get enough for the job. Now I have all my posts and this is perfect for helping me estimate my lumber needs! THANKS!

I would put the end boards on the inside of the posts so that when wood falls or rests against it, it's pushed into the posts instead of pulling on the nails/screws. I would also make a zig-zag pattern with those boards so they add a bit of stability for no extra cost.

I am presently in the process of planning mine out and your video was perfect timing. What I have verified through you is that I am not over doing it and the need for good ventilation so the wood drys properly. Something to consider too is the wood you block and split this year will be next years firewood not this coming winter. So what you need is this years firewood and next years firewood all under shelter, at least that’s what I figured out. Where I live it gets cold too but I have no woods to break the wind during poor to bad weather, it can really howl here and gust to 50mph at times through the rolling hills. Keeping lots of open on the back, sides and front is perfect but I just worry about wind blown rain and snow. Some kind of louver over lapping siding sort of thing maybe. Thank you for this video. :)

@@GettingItDoneNorthOf7 I got my posts last week from a not so local rail road salvage yard up by Billings but worth the trip, 10 and 12 foot long ties in decent shape. What I paid for them is about what I would have paid for treated posts at the lumber yard but the difference is the rail road ties will last considerably longer. The weather up here in Montana is trying to decide if it is still winter with snow showers and freezing rain every other day and cold, typical for this time of year. As soon as it clears up a bit I will auger out some holes and set the posts. One of my neighbors has a saw mill and the timing for what I need and him getting his mill up and running will be just right. The main mission now is to move the wood I have and clear out the area. Fortunately I have a skid steer to help with the heavy lifting and move things around. This will be the Fort Knox of wood sheds when done. Thanks for checking up. :)

This is great, we were just discussing building a wood shed this summer! We've been using tarps. Looks Awesome, outstanding job! Go with two tanks for rain catchment, you would be surprised how much water you can catch!

What spacing did you use on the rafters. I was going to use 16 on center. My she is 10x10 and I’m using 2x6 x16 feet. I’m going to have a 3 foot over hang on the side and the front so can store axes and shovels on one side and the other overhang will be in front

Find many critters building homes in there ? I always stack on pallets as well, have found some pretty nasty little burrows.

128 cubic feet in a cord. 25x10x6=1500. 1500/128= 11.7 cords. If you stacked it all the way to the roof front to back, you could get around 13.5 cords. Not too shabby 👍🏼

watched this yesterday on the tv.. forgot to lay a comment. hope you get ton's looking at the plans on this.. having seen it in person? it's perfect. looks neat and wow does it ever hold ALOT of wood. suits the builds on your property perfectly. doesn't take from the beautiful forests around you. great share.

Ha my woodshed is almost identical! I think you inspired my build last fall! It’s 10x20 and it’s my first winter with it, it’s so worth it! I can stack so much wood, it’s only half full too. Will spend this spring/summer cutting wood to fill it. I built shelves on the back to store extra stuff like lumber.

Hi thats cool to hear! Yes having a large wood shelter makes a huge difference. You need that space to allow a long drying period. Good luck with filling it, I will have to go see a video in it 🙂

Yes and that's the main reason I built this woodshed. It takes 1 to 2 years to dry the wood out properly.

If your posts aren't in the ground aren't you afraid of a really strong wind flipping it? My buddy wants to build a wood bunker but he's worried about the wind ripping it apart. He wants to build it the same way with the metal roof and wood slats on the sides
