I found a looooog time ago that permatex disk brake grease to be fantastic, and I only ran associated cars ,I am a retired mechanic , a very long time in actual auto racing ,super late models ,check it out ,not cheep silicone grease

Would be nice if the camera is positioned differently so your hand isn't blocking the view.

You don’t need to do both sides as the diff assy will be running just the same even if you only do one side

Booooo Man Boo. Not enough information to what you're doing. Kinda confusing. How do you know what's too tight or loose? What's a good indicator that you did it just right?

do you ever bother to take a fine working diff apart just to clean and re-grease?
@RCAlley

No. If the diff feels good, it's good. As soon as it starts going bad, you'll know.

Does slipper tightness matter during diff break in?
@RCAlley
@RCAlley 4 жыл бұрын
Generally once you hit the track you loosen it a little bit and as you do practice laps tighten in to where it should be
@Pops180

RC Alley but how tight should the slipper be when you are doing the procedure in your video?

When assembling something like the thrust assembly, have the camera at an angle we can see the parts up close. All I can see is the side odd yur hands. Most people like me, watching this video don't have the manual. That's why I'm here, so skipping the thrust assembly by saying: assemble per the manual- negates my whole reason for watching this. That's what yur supposed to be showing us!

unlike brushes in a motor, when rebuilding a ball diff there are no softer irregular shaped parts that need to be aligned or reshaped, the parts you replace are typically metal in metal, so just exactly what are you breaking in?

You're creating the groove in the diff rings. Breaking in the diff, or running it for several minutes, wears an even groove in the diff rings. If you don't do that then you'll get the bumpy or notchy feeling.
@nohji5103
@nohji5103 6 жыл бұрын
no diff ball is that perfect, the running in process lets the balls have a chance to seat into an orientation that they are most round, ensuring full contact of all the diff balls with the rings. exposing a fresh diff to full acceleration loads without a break-in is akin to going wide open throttle on fresh engine....not going to last very long.

I've seen a number of videos on ball difs for RC, but none on actual autos. Are they not durable enough?
@RCAlley
@RCAlley 4 жыл бұрын
Ball diffs are for dirt, gear for carpet. If you run carpet, you won't see one. Like the video states, if broken in correctly it will out last the outdrives

Dirt vs carpet (as if playing indoors)? I was asking about actual highway vehicles vs the kid's sand lot. Is this type of differential durable enough to use in an actual highway vehicle, or at best a golf cart? Nevermind - I'll post this question to your competitor's video!

@@terrybyrd5105 a ball diff is basically the RC equivalent of a limited slip diff which is used in some full sized cars, mainly sports cars.

In my opinion he is not using enough grease on the thrust or the diff balls. In my experience the diff just doesn't last as long.

That diff is still in my b6d. Same exact diff that was built in this video. You can see when it was posted and you can see the date today.
