Have just gotten into Gaslands and am enjoying these videos immensely. A good road surface medium i've found is skateboard grip tape or shed roofing felt btw, perfect road texture!

this is great! I have some suggestions, I find that prior to the sand texture the first thing I do is lay down different sizes of thread in the pattern of cracks then do my texture then peel away the threads revealing the deeper set cracks. Through trial and error, I’ve found that painting the cracked areas first with my base coat color then using rubber cement (cow gum for you Britt’s) on the threads before laying them down. for pot holes I use liquid latex. I love your work as always Jim.

I use a scale calculator to start and see how wide it really should be for reap life scale. Then work how ever I want. Narrow roads, wide roads, multi lane roads.

Have you tried using roof tiles? :) on one side its more rough (bigger scale if you will) and on the other side, it’s more smooth. It’s my go to road material.

Sounds like a good shout 😉 but is it easy to cut with scissors?

@@jhminiatures7867 It´s pretty thick :P, and the one side has a very rocky surface. I use a knife to make cuts, then brake it apart. I´d be happy to provide some pictures of my roads if you want :)

So I'm from Wichita Kansas, you're talking about strange lines on the roads. My girlfriend and I went to Oklahoma just north of Oklahoma City recently, about 2 hours south of Wichita Kansas. This is the only place in the United States with squiggly lines on the road. My girlfriend and I had no idea what they were for. I figured it was to catch drunk drivers, but the real reason was to tell drivers that you were in a school zone, and to drive slower. It was totally strange.

Nice, but man don't use citadel paint for that ! o_O Cheap acrylic paint in big bottle will be fair enough ! ;)

I had the same thought and cringed a bit when I saw the Citadel stuff come out to be used on scenery! 😆 Maybe it’s different there though. Citadel is LUDICROUSLY EXPENSIVE here in the US but you can buy yellow, black, and white craft paint for $0.50 per bottle. I guess also you have to factor in whether or not you feel like going to a store too though. Not having to go in public definitely has value! 😆

Did you structure the adhesive side or the other?

I used the adhesive side for the road, putting sand on it and painting it. I left the tile side as it is. So if the road tiles were turned over, you'd see a weird tile pattern 😉
