Currently bulking is not my primary goal and I'm more interested in developing functional strength, athleticism, mobility, and general cross-modal performance. Still though, I do enjoy being built as much as the next guy, and I know it's something that a lot of you are likely aiming toward as well. To that end then, this video exists to share some of my top tips for bulking and adding mass.
I talk about how to combine compound and isolation movements (and how compound movements might not be the magic bullet they have been described as), I discuss the importance of maintaining a calorie surplus to activate mTOR, and I look at the psychological aspect of remaining calm in the 'rest and digest state'.
In short, you need to train hard, eat hard, then rest hard. Live like a lion by going all out then biding your time and conserving energy.
Here's a related post from the site on how much protein you should be eating: www.thebioneer.com/how-much-pr...
Enjoy!

Milk does not increase HUMAN growth hormone. But, it does increase mammalian estrogen, because the milk was designed for baby cows. This increase your risk of cancerous tumors, lowers your testosterone, increase acne, and raise your chance of getting "bitch tits." People get big and strong fast from it, because it's high calorie/protein.

I know this insn't based in science, but in my experience higher testosterone and growth hormone (or really subsequent hormones) release, especially just after or during excersie, _greatly_ improves recovery. Being confident and calm during and just after excersie despite damaging the muscle at that moment or just before is sensible enough if you want to be more parasympathetic, and generally confidence and with it a calmness should be expected with higher testosterone, at least for me. So while the testosterone and growth hormone boost from larger muscle stimulation (rather if high stimulation for a relatively small muscle mass or stimulation for a large muscle mass or maybe even both) doesn't produce a long lasting effect, the ability for it to reduce your stress and in-moment need for rest has a very real effect on how fast you can grow muscle. This is mostly psychological in my experience as you need to remain calm and remind yourself and act as if the excersie, even when would be or is intense, is nothing, similar enough to a physical feat a man would do to impress a woman and with just as much confidence even in failure, this sort of stess management will allow you to train much more frequently and while it may take some people longer than others, you will definitely be able to train daily or more frequently, even so I would suggest taking a month or two off every now and then, 4 or 3 yotal months off a year (no less than 3 weeks I would think) is probably good, and rest & sleep well, as well as general stress management and confidence improvements so that daily life is less of a stess and thus more parasympathetic (well less anti-parasympatgetic anyways). The real issue is not being parasympathetic enough, _not_ training too frequently even if you're training an hour three times a day, though you may need a major mindset change before you can train frequently, which in itself requires psychological training.

I'm dealing with hyperthyroidism which has impacted my exercise goals, but it seems that I've developed that because of a sensitivity to iodine, which is in dairy, poultry and other foodstuffs. Its not the fat in milk that's bad, its the sugar. Milk is crazy high in sugar. Try fairview ultrafiltered whole milk with DHA. They filter out the Lactose, and its roughly the same price as regular milk and it has 91grams of protien in 1 container and there is less sugar. Still too much sugar but you can get their reduced sugar blend.

pardon my grammar, i hate phones this took me a long time to write but i know what im talking about, i plan on studying to be a nutritionist. ive started taking spirulina algae, its like a multivatamin and its 60% protein that is optimal for human use. every mineral and vitamin the body needs and the highest concentration of chlorophyl we have ever found. the only negative side effects of taking too much are possible dhiarrea and green poop. a proper diet will counteract that ofcourse, but its great in the morning instead of a multivitamin. you build enzymes for the day to digest all your food and its natural. as for the fact that it comes from the sea, i suggested spirulina because it is an algea, not a plankton like chlorella (which has been falsely mareketed as an algae, plankton does not grow a shell) spirulina grows a shell that can be taken off sort of like onions but on a microscopic level, these shells are actually grown in layers that stop unwanted bacteria and things like mercuray from taking their toll. algae was discovered in studys where they found out that stem cells can be produced in an adult human, we simply dont get the nutrient quantities we need. stem cells are kind of a blueprint cell that can be copied to make other cells. you can take pills or powder, i have it with my morning fruit smoothies. i still take protein shakes because muscle growth requires lots of protein, but there are types of fiber that have recently been discovered to break down in to protein with adequate amounts of stomach acids. i mean the fibers found in grain that everyone thinks are for your poop, and the stomach acids made from the vitamins we all need.

Eating carbohydrates will spike your insulin which will reduce your body's ability to draw upon it's body fat for hormone production and energy production especially if you're frequently eating [carbohydrate or protein in the presence of even a little carbohydrate] which means that your body is more dependant on it's glucose stores which emans every time you run low on glucose your body is forced to metabolize it's proteins to form glucose (since it can't as easily access it's body fat) and will especially take from energy expensive skeletal muscle as is logical if you want energy and also to reduce energy use, and it will be less able to produce testosterone among other hormones for faster better recovery, thereby it's not particularly logical to be carbohydrate dependant if as soon as you accidentally think too hard you start loosing muscle mass. Other than that, I personally feel much better and get better results when I don't eat carbohydrates or at least don't eat many (like 0 to 20 grams a day), and your body can take some fats (triglycerides was it?) and food sourced proteins (or yes, it's own proteins, in a restful state mostly defective proteins) and make glucose from them to refill your glycogen stores, and it's efficiency at doing so can increase to meet the demands of training frequently. I would suggest though that you eat at least 1 gram of adipose fat (or at least fat in general) per gram of protein, and preferably 3 grams of adipose fat per every gram of protein (though this isn't necessarily realistic and less _might_ be helpful for muscle building and body fat reduction), protein synthesis for new muscle skin connective tissue ect is an energy expensive process and I don't think 31 calories per tram of protein (including the protein's calories) is overboard, albeit you can build muscle on less _IF_ your body can readily access it's body fat, which requires low insulin levels and higher insulin efficiency (for building the muscle), and since carbohydrate or protein in the presence of carbohydrate ate the two latgest promoters of high insulin levels (and eventually low insulin efficiency) it would then again make more sense to greatly reduced or eliminate carbohydrates if you want to build muscle as efficiently as you can.
@iIO_OIi
@iIO_OIi 5 жыл бұрын
And while the lion example is fair enough, you also have to consider that lions do not eat many or any carbohydrates and they do not have a whole lot of body fat, further you must consider just how physically intense it is to fight another animal, sometimes larger than you, not only to kill it but also to bit die or get seriously injured yourself and it's perhaps more intense than almost any workout, and furthermore yet is that animal will feed you for a while, you can eat a lot of it at once in large chunks (since lions aren't exactly good at chewing) and have it slowly digest as a result, furthermore all of that animals fats can be stored in your adipose and you'll have energy for days if not weeks (even a low body fat percentage of 8% is a lot of energy that can last you weeks with low to moderate physical & mental activity).

Great video! I didnt know that working too hard may hinder the process... Questions to stay SAFE: What do you think of the 36 eggs diet? And could you do a video talking about this types of diets, the pros cons and general review of them? Like... Gomad, 36 eggs, and other tematic diets like those? I have a friend who wants to become huge... He is thinking about using steroids, he is not competing but he has set a goal, and he is the kind of guy that doesnt go too far if that is not his initial goal... He wants to gain at least 10kg of muscle, at most 30... Since he is already thinking of taking a risk like steroids, but he is not that much interested in shredding, he just wants to bulk up... Do you think trying something like gomad and 36 eggs would be less harmful for his body? Ps: i will send him and a few other friends this video, its great ñ_ñ

Don't let your friend ruin his hormonal natural balance taking steroids. If he really need something, try SARMs instead.
@TheBioneer
@TheBioneer 5 жыл бұрын
Got to agree with the other comments here, neither steroids nor 36 eggs are really a good option. I've not done a ton of research into the latter but that's a whole lot of fat and calories. Too much of anything is a bad thing. I'd expect weight gain, acne, stomach problems, and discomfort, and while he might gain muscle that's still going to require a tough gym routine. Has he tried weight gainers and the like? It's tough when you struggle to build muscle but patience and perseverance pays off in time. And if he's young, he'll likely fill out with age. As others have said, steroids can seriously mess up your hormone balance. Experimenting with different training routines (different cadences in particular) would be my first port of call.

How could he bulk the most with the least risk? I gained more weight on a plant based diet than I did eating grassfed raw weird stuff that cost too much. Now I'm convinced that the secret is 5,000 Calories of cheap food per day/hour/minute, sleep and general non-minimalism.

There is a limit (given by miostatin) of muscle mass you can increase for a slice of time. If you overeat, even protein, beyond this limit you'll gain fat instead. Power lifters don't care, but bodybuilders do.

I'm a huge fan of creatine. I feel like it gets me more potential volume at the right intensity. Gaining too much fat isn't an issue since I tend to gain weight slowly and stay within a healthy bodyfat range. (if I limit anything, I just don't gain weight) flip side, I don't care about being ripped constantly. To me it seems like guys who are always ripped are never swole.

I did notice that I HAD to sleep properly quit caffeine and drink 4-6 ltrs of water a day. Sorry just the carbs affecting testosterone surprised me .

I was actually at my biggest and strongest on keto, as well as traing about 3 hrs a day. I was on an extremely high protein and high fat diet. While I was performing very well, I realised that I felt so much better with carbs in my systen after my refeed days. I decided to quit keto entirely and, ultimately, it was the right choice for me. 3 years later, I train 30 minutes a day and eat plenty of carbs. I'm well on my way to overtaking my keto physique and I feel much healthier.

It does, light to moderate exercise like cycling, jogging or even walking can increase a healthy amount of protein synthesis from bloodflow without going too much into catabolic territory. Its actually quite relaxing to so its definitely more anabolic, its a huge de stressor.

@TheBioneer
@TheBioneer 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't expect them to have a massive impact. Being slightly sedated could potentially make you a little more anabolic? Though it can cause reductions in testosterone. It could likewise slightly reduce energy and strength during workouts. But it we're all different and if that's working for you then that's great and you can definitely work through it. Anxiety itself is also definitely not good for muscle. Just keep on training and experimenting with what gets results :-D Good luck!

Carb lovers are high energy, destined to crush the low carb/keto community with sheer endurance and more exciting food options. When Odin hung from the ash tree, he hungered not for avocado and bacon, but for a thick loaf of rye bread. Hence when I eat a bowl of oatmeal, the gods of agriculture grant me carb energy. It is not a chemical process, but a spiritual one. Science can not explain the power I gain.

To bodybuilders, carbs are a tool, like anything else. If you want to cut fat, drop your carbs intake to get a calories deficit. If you want to bulk, increase carbs to get a calories surplus. Fat and protein can remain the same. The life for muscle growth is between cut and bulk, and cut and bulk again... Each cicle get you a little more muscular.

Use compound lifts yes, but also use high reps on isolation moves to create pump. Compound first. Don't forget the less obvious muscles that help to fill you out. Try to hit each muscle group twice a week. Stay in a caloric surplus. Eat 1g of protein per 1lb of body fat. Rest and sleep hard. Avoid stress and things that get your heart rate up when not training. Take creatine. Hope that helps!

What kind of studies are you reading? Simple whey and casein protein shakes are easily digestible by your body and supplement your protein nutrition in a decent and healthy way. Of course they should not be used as a complete replacement for whole foods since they tend to just give macronutritions (protein and carbs) but your body needs micronutritions as well (vitamins, fiber, etc.). In a nutshell, Protein shakes are legit in that they provide you with a decent portion of protein in an easily consumable form.

Wash the outside of the egg, and buy highest quality local eggs (shoudnt be too expensive), i have never gotten ill even though there are viruses that can live inside the egg but are extremelly rare (atleast in my countrys local eggs) with chance of like 1 in 20 000 getting severely ill from eating a Fresh (not rotten) egg. Jonathan Torhjelm I totally understand man, we Homo sapiens are technically designed to have an omnivorous diet, however the body is capable to adapting to any diet due to environmental changes and other types of change such as shortages in a specific food source. Due to the lack of carbs the body becomes very efficient with fats and proteins and the body can do very well with "low" amounts of vitamins and minerals. I'm no expert, I'm just a nutritional advocate like yourself. I have been trying all types of diets and a couple of days ago I started the carnivore diet. I read about the profound benefits of the diet and I was surprised by the results people achieved. I also noticed how predators do so well with a meat only diet, it's because they are designed to do well with it and because they get all their needed vitamins and minerals from the foods they eat. The herbivores eat plants to get their needed sources of micronutrients. So one takes from the other. The human body is amazing because it can adapt to change so well. I will send you a good video of what I learned about this diet.
