My dad bought me an Omega Geneve (stainless steel with silver face) for my 18th birthday. He let me pick which one I wanted and I was struck by the simple elegance of it. My dad died this year but it reminds me of him.

Very helpful ‼️ I definitely wanted a watch from the year I was born. This should be a watch from a reputable brand that still works today and is to my liking. Since you were the first to draw my attention to the Longines Spirit* 37mm Champagne about 1 year ago, it should be a similar watch, but then from 1965. (*I had the Spirit on my arm before, it was 42mm but too big because of the horns.) A Rolex DateJust is too expensive for me, let alone a DayDate. Tudor would be an alternative. Then I simply searched for all brands combined with 1965 on eBay and came across the Omega Genève. Next step was to search for Omega Genève on KZfaq and there I found your first YT video about the Omega Genève. Thanks for your valuable tips, which is why I dared to buy on eBay (550 USD from Israel). I was not disappointed and now have a beautiful watch from my birthyear. Get going 🚀

Omega Geneve from the mid sixties was my first Swiss watch. I bought it from a pawn shop in 1972 for $35 CDN! I had it regulated when I bought it and serviced twice in 25 years by an independent. I loved it for its accuracy, reliability, and understated look. The movement, to me, looked exquisite. Then I was stolen....that made me sad. The End.

Hi Tim, I saw this Geneve on Ebay, seller's from Korea. www.ebay.com.sg/itm/Authentic-Omega-Geneve-Date-Black-Dial-Stainless-Steel-Manual-Mens-Watch/164092638564 My greatest concern is that it's a franken-watch, Because it seems like the case and the dial don't really match. What are your thoughts?

Greta video thank you. I bought a cal 1481 stainless back in 2000 for $150. Loved it and wore it proudly until I dropped it and it broke open and the pieces got all scattered. I just found one that looks identical - cal1022 gold plated with the large link gold band for $550. A lot more than my old stainless, but I really like the band. It reminds me of python snake scales. Am I crazy 🤷‍♂️ who knows.

I found your film very interesting and informative, at the time of watching I had already bought a Geneve which was in the post on it's way to me. I'm no Omega expert but do have experience buying vintage watches, seeing your film reaffirmed for me I had done everything correctly to ensure my final choice was good. Despite this there is still a little trepidation that all will be well, we know that the buying of vintage watches can be a minefield. A little luck on one's side is always good as well. I am now the proud owner of a Geneve ref. 166.070 cal 565 and couldn't be happier with it. In mint condition, clean and unmolested with all original parts including a signed crystal. A truly beautiful watch and glad to know that they are becoming more collectable because they are an Omega classic.

Oh my! There seem to be dozens of different models that are called "Genève," including one that looks like a TV set! Searching for the reference, or for "565" is helpful. The black and blue dials seem to be almost always "refinished." and even if very nicely done, they look like glossy black paint and lack the subtle texture of the original. Today, in December 2019, ebay prices range from US$400 to $2700! Chrono24 is mostly more expensive. What's the advantage of buying there?

Hi. I was very interested in your presentation as I was given a Geneve in 1978 by my father for my birthday (I won't say which one) and I have never known much about it. I had it serviced by a lady in Sydney about 8 years ago and I believe her to be very reputable after looking at her workshop and getting to know her a little. She had a preofessional demeanour lacking in others I talked to and was trained soemwhere in Europe. I am considering getting it serviced now, but sometimes I wonder if the cost of servicing is worth it when compared to the value of the watch and my available budget. However, I know far more about my watch now, even though mine is gold, which I prefer to the stainless ones as it looks warmer in appearance. Also, the watch maker showed me the movement and I remember it being more beautiful than the one in this watch. I have often wondered about it over the years and this has been the first source of information I have found about it. Thank you. It was generous of you to provide this information.

These seem to be skyrocketing in value recently. I finally got my 1974 Geneve back from service done in Bienne. Bad news: despite the fact that I declined it, they replaced the original tritium dial/hands. Good news: I get to keep the old parts. They showed me a faded, slight ring of rust under the dial - is there a way to restore and reuse the original dial, or would this cause mechanical issues eventually?
@CasebackWatches
@CasebackWatches 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the amount of rust. A watchmaker could remove it. Question is what kind of sealing then? I would try to find a capable watchmaker and ask him. There might be a solution.

Hi, why is this watch so.cheap. I imagine when purchased in the 60s, it must have cost a fair bit, being an omega and all. I have come across one within my grandfathers old belongings, at a worth of only say 400 euros, the restoration and servicing costs will easily outstrip the sale value
@CasebackWatches
@CasebackWatches 4 жыл бұрын
I think exactly this is the reason for low prices. People are worried that service cost sum up, plus the possibility that they cannot find a skilled watchmaker for the piece.
@StruanRobertson29
@StruanRobertson29 4 жыл бұрын
@@CasebackWatches had the piece taken to a specialist today, price of around 570 euros for service with guarantee, full clean, replace glass and crown with an omegaleather strap..I think I will proceed - they reckoned a restored value of 800 euros would be reasonable, but perhaps that's ambitious. Maybe the value will increase if i keep it in excellent condition for 20 years or so
