I have a gold plated Geneve Automatic I bought new in 1965, it was a daily wear for around 40 years. It still keeps excellent time - around +3 seconds a day with zero beat error.

That’s the beauty of these 1960s movements. But it’s always good to give the watch its regular maintenance service. Just like a car, it cannot run forever. And before it no longer can run, some gears may already been worn.

Great video. I took an interest in vintage watches in general after coming across this channel. I recently picked up a Omega De Ville dating to 1967 with the cal. 565 and I really like the size at 34.5mm. I think I like the vintage watches from the 40's, 50's and 60'swith case diameter of 33-35 mm which fits me perfectly.

All quartz and tuning fork models are very affordable because parts are obsolete. If you are going to own a F300, make sure to use a proper battery so you don't burn out the circuit or coil. Always stick to Renata for the battery brand. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Good video , nice to learn about this model . I think that the cosmic series are also good starter Omega's . They are a decent size , come with good movements . The only thing is the closed case , but if you have the crystal removing tool , no big deal . Also maybe some extra water resistance because of the case design . Cosmic's don't get enough love 👍😀
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! The Seamaster Cosmic would make a really great starter piece too, however, the crystal and case designs are problematic to some watchmakers and to a lot of watch collectors. Those crystals are special made crystal with a special cut on the edge and takes an unique crystal ring with step. Unlike, the models I pointed out in this video. In order to regulate a Seamaster Cosmic, you'll need to remove the crystal and stem to take out the movement. That is a lot of work to get a simple task done.

Great video!! What are some things we should be looking out for when trying to purchase one of these watches, but making sure all the parts are correct / it's not a franken watch?
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! Well, if you write down everything I mentioned in this video, I am sure you will not need to worry about buying a franken example. The video tells you the following: 1. what year range it should be. 2. what case material it comes with 3. Many dial variation examples at the end of the video 4. What movement it should take. The above are probably the most important things you should focus. Couple things I did not mention are: 1. Automatic will have a 24 jewels and manual wind will have 17 jewels. 2. On the gold plated case, check the behind of the case as it is common to see oxidation.

Hi Sir 👋. I’ve got a Geneve Ref 136041 cal 613 with date. You did said that it’s one of the best movement. But where does it actually rank in your opinion? I got it serviced & regulated & now it’s +-5secs!! Fantabulous!! In my opinion this Geneve model it’s like Rolex OP where it’s got a lot of dial color to choose from & mind you some of the good condition ones I’ve seen fetch a high price like a Seamaster!! 😮😮😮. Could you be kind enough to make a special video about Cal.613 someday? Thank you very much for your great videos always….. 👍

Well, Omega 613 is based off a caliber 550, but with quick set date and manual wind. It's hard to rank from 1-10 since most Omega manual wind movement from 1940s to 1970 are fantastic in their own ways. But you can watch this video to learn a bit about the 550 family which include caliber 613: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mp1ymredm7i2m4U.html

Aren't they a litte small ? I've found an Auto '71 round case, all original, it has the "difficult" 1481 mvmnt but at 35.5 and running like a chronometer Im happy as it was less than £500, those blue dials are excellent, would have to be a bumper tho.
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Жыл бұрын
For a vintage watch, not small at all. A more than fair size. Caliber 1481 is not comparable to the caliber that this watch carries. However, a good serviced caliber 1481 will work like a charm as well. But as a watchmaker, I can see the lack of quality put into a 1481 compared to what this watch takes. FYI, Tissot uses a caliber 1481 as well.

Nice watches!! what do you think about the caliber 620? I am thinking of buying an omega ultra slim watch but I am concerned that the caliber is too small (17mm) for a men's watch. I think that a larger movement it is easier to service and the parts are looser so it will last longer.
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. Calibre 620 and 625 are very similar. But calibre 620 is more appealing. It is a smaller movement, mainly used in ladies' watches or odd-shaped pieces. Its size does not make it a problematic movement to work on, but somewhat more challenging to handle. Need a tweezer with a fine tip, or you can quickly lose the balance cap jewels when cleaning + oiling them. Usually, when an Omega carries this calibre, it will be more affordable as collectors tense to pay more for a watch that takes a larger size movement. Durability, it will last just as long as the ones you see in this video.
@statusbohemio
@statusbohemio Жыл бұрын
@@TimelessHistoryChannel Thank you very much for all the information. The truth is that it feels a bit strange that size of movement in a larger case and a lot of unfilled space. That's why I finally decided on a seamaster 168.024 caliber 565

Hi, I'm not sure I got it right: goldplated over steel? I think all gold-plated Omega cases are made of brass, not steel. You can see it (unfortunately) when the gold layer is worn off: verdigris on yellow-brown metal. Regards - HU
@TimelessHistoryChannel
@TimelessHistoryChannel Жыл бұрын
Actually, I think you’ve mistaken for gold filled. When you polish down a gold filled case, you will find a type of strong brass underneath. But gold plated cases, like on this Geneve, try polishing on the machine, it will get to the base metal (in this case, it is steel). But in between the plating and base metal (steel), I believe there is a thin nickel layer in between. Sometime, to just see won’t give you the complete answer until you test it.
@hans-ulrichwagner2648
@hans-ulrichwagner2648 Жыл бұрын
@@TimelessHistoryChannel I don't like to contradict. But all the watches with the inscription "Fond acier inoxydable" that I have seen in over 30 years of collecting undoubtedly had brass cases. Why else would this inscription be on the inner caseback? You could perhaps try a magnet when the movement is removed? Or weigh the watch if you have a steel model to compare? I am curious about new information - regards - HU
@hans-ulrichwagner2648
@hans-ulrichwagner2648 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the magnet does not work because my test watch case (without movement) is made of non-magnetic stainless steel. To be on the safe side, I asked three watchmakers who specialise in vintage watches: All watch cases marked "Fond Acier Inoxydable" (or "Stainless Steel Back") are made from base metal / brass.

Unfortunately, I do not recommend any quartz or tuning fork models. Circuit and coil issues are a big problem when they die out. And on the F300, the index wheel which has around 300 teeth is another issue, as the wheel is commonly broken as well. Best to stick to a mechanical watch when it comes to vintage models.
