As a European American alcohol laws are insane, I’ve been asked for proof of age in bars in New York, as has my wife,and have been refused entry because we didn’t have ID. We are both in our sixties.

It’s because we don’t want any blurry lines in our laws? Most of the time we don’t ask for ID if it’s just a restaurant or hotel bar or something but at heavily regulated places like a baseball stadium or popular bar in New York etc. they have cameras and stuff and they don’t want that liability so the employees are forced to check it every time. Yea a 60 year old is obvious but you have to draw the line somewhere, better to just check their id.

it doesn’t matter ur age. if you don’t have an i’d to prove identity anywhere, you probably won’t get entry. it is for security and to make things fair between all age groups. everyone is treated the same as to not discriminate against ages. it can get annoying, but it is honestly for the better.

When I was 18 and above, I always asked the store for something they didn't have, making them buy a bottle for me. So when the bottle came, I just walked in and took some other liquor, received the bottle they received for me payed and that was it. No one ever thought that someone would make a reservation or ask the stor for a specific bottle if you were to young.

Fun fact: the label on that brand of bitters was actually a printing error, it wasnt supposed to be be bigger than the bottle itself but they realised it made the bottle stand out on a shelf and was unique, so they kept printing the labels that way

There's way more drivers in the US, combined with a lack of public transportation, massive travel distances, tens of millions of cars on the road, and people being able to drive at 16 when they're not even considered "adults" yet. Throw alcohol into a car-centric environment with a bunch of still developing kids & you get way more problems. Many people still in HS turn 18 their senior year. That means easier access for their juniors & sophomore friends as well. We have enough drunk driving accidents as it is, but lowering the drinking age in this society would not help. If we had walkable cities & widespread access to reliable public transit, then sure, we could be more like Europeans.

this all depends on how the bitter is taxed by the state. if it’s taxed as potable then you need an id, if it’s taxes as nonpotable then no id. so just look into state laws and how the specific bitter is taxed.

Lemon, lime and bitters is a popular drink in Australia. Drizzle angostura bitters on the insides of a glass, then fill with lemon soft drink and lime juice. When I was a kid it was my favourite fancy drink to get when my parents took us out for a pub dinner on special occasions. Barely any alcohol, fine for kids.

Im a nurse and i once worked in a rehab facility. We had a lady that would spike her ginger ale with body spray. She would also steal the hand sanitizer from the nurses station and open the dispensers one the wall and take the bag of solution put. She was banned from having and body spray, purfume, hand sanitizer, or mouthwash in her room. They removed all the sanitizer stations and required us to put the sanitizer behind the nurses station, in the med room, or locked in our carts. We searched her room once after she got drunk and fell and hit her head. We found DOZENS of empty body spray bottles, sanitizer bottles, and diluted vodka bottles the she was apparently going across the street to dollar general to get. It was sad because she was a sweetheart when sober, but a mean drunk. She was around 70 and despite her being an alcoholic for decades she would easily pass for 50 and she was really beautiful. I kinda miss her.

You can by orange extract that you cook with for 99 cents back when I was 17-18 and mix with Sunkist or other orange flavored drinks and get tore up. Vanilla flavoring is same thing just different flavor and mixed with Cherry Coke is pretty good or BK frozen Coke. Doesn't take very many for a fresh 17 year old to get tore up.

Nah over here in UK we do things differently. Binge drinking from age 13-16, quit at 17, now im 18 and finally able to buy drinks but its kinda shit now

It's just alcohol infused with vanilla oil. It's no more dangerous than vodka or any other spirit. Just know your limits and don't get a BAC over 0.30

Hand sanitizer also contains alcohol and you don't need an ID for it. Granted, it's probably the 2nd worst alternative, considering you're consuming poison. The worst being hydrogen peroxide.

Instead of wasting tons of money you can just go to any local pharmacy and buy the purest ethanol there mix it with pure water (not from the sink) in proportion 60% of water 40% of ethanol and here you have the cheapest vodka.

Up till about 2-3 years ago, Ango was available in my local grocery. Brought them to the counter, old lady that had been there since 3 owners ago expressed amazement that they were just... *out.* "How much alcohol is in these? Oh my lawd... These were next to the _soda?_ " Yep. They started putting them in their liquor department shortly after. But they still don't lock up the vanilla extract...

Local Asian mart sells 2L bottles of cooking wine. No id requested, used to buy them after school for about 10usd (was a few years ago). Rum essence from a catering supply house is 80+% and inexpensive.

There is also alcohol in vanilla flavoring. I worked in retail and there was a woman that used to come in regularly and wipe the shelf out of vannila flavoring almost daily.
