How to Bypass a Power Steering Leak/Power Steering Cooler Leak

Hey there KZfaq's in this video I go over the process of bypassing a Power Steering Cooler that had sprung a MASSIVE leak.
This 2009 Chevy Traverse and several other crossover Suv's, have an extension of the Power Steering Lines called a "Cooler" intended to keep the Fluid colder therefore lasting longer and working better! The OEM Part ran $150 and was not in stock...so I had to Breakout the ole' DIY/Hacker Hat!
I also show how to bend a Brake Line without the use of a pipe/line bender!

Thank you for the upload, some dumb comments as always but there is nothing wrong with this fix, did the same thing on my truck and it’s been in place for over a year with no issues

nice hacks. I used a 3/8ths fuel line to bypass my cooler on the 4th gen chrysler minivan. basically the opposite of your setup, steel lines with rubber hose bypassing the cooler.

I have a volvo semi truck that has one of these dumb coolers. Right now I have it bypassed too, and don't plan on replacing the cooler. Power steering is actually working better than it did before the cooler leaked. I have a brass barbed pipe connecting the two power steering hoses together. Went down on me Arizona where it was 115 degrees today.

Man my steering just went out on my Volvo dump truck and someone gave me the idea to disconnect the hydraulics from the pump so I was searching for results. I don't have a cooler, just the pump coming out the side of the engine.

i wouldn't even call these "hacks". these are straight up machinery repairs, very legitimate and functional.

I would say it’s a good TEMPORARY fix and I would do the same to get myself by for a couple of days. They put those coolers there for a reason.

So many things wrong with this fix, you may have stopped the leak but I can guarantee you are causing way bigger problems in the future. The cooler is there for a reason.

Hey Thanks for Watching and Commenting!! I understand your concerns, however power Steering coolers are really only needed in commercial, off road (rock crawling style) or "drift" vehicles! Essentially anything that turns, and maintains that turn, hard, long and or fast!! Not essential for any daily driver. After this fix This suv had no more leaks nor issues for the year after...failure came in the form of frame damage during a hit and run for the owner, and lastly as mentioned in our intro video and about video..we show quick fixes to make sure you can get to work..times are hard, inflation is high..it does the owner no good having a non functioning vehicle. This got her on the road same day, within minutes to go to work..get kids from school and save up to do a cooler replacement had she chose!! She chose not to, vehicle functioned fine! This is a very common repair done in many shops around the world Including commercial vehicles to bypass failed hydraulic systems!! In fact in these very comments a commercial driver mentioned how he bypasses his semi trucks cooler..normal repair!! Thanks for watching and happy Wrenching!!

"Repair"; Definition: fix or mend (a thing suffering from damage or a fault). Power Steering leaked...after this repair..didn't leak, Suv drove, single mom happy to save money and be able to still go to work..#Nailedit Feel free to pick up a dictionary, shop manual or weight if you think this doesn't qualify as a repair or that you can get as Jacked, Stacked and max out racks, the way I very clearly can, if I infact were to be "smoking" anything. #projecting #probablyfatlonelyloser #thanksforwatchingandcommeningandboostingmychannelinthealgorithim!

I found the meaning of 'bodge job' Maybe Im fat and do nothing, but your ego should let go and take criticism once in a while .. I just feel sorry for the single mother and You (happy to announce) 'and do a KZfaq Vid' on how to bodge something up ... Ps I could make a million of those faliures .. I just dont publicise them .. Was broke..now fixed=repair! @@kevwills858 yes sir! As I said in the video..apparently hearing isn't on your list of talents either, a tube bender would be best but is unneeded if you use certain techniques. You should be happy!! You could do the same, save the money from the tube bender and buy snacks and maybe a life coach!!
