How to Calculate Standard Deviation (Uncertainty) for Measured Values

To find the uncertainty in our measurements, we will often calculate the standard deviation of the measured values. In this video I explain how to calculate standard deviation (uncertainty) from measured values.
Note: The final range should be 3.40 to 3.48.

You are correct. When I first posted the video I used a KZfaq feature to add a note about the incorrect range and I corrected it then. However since then KZfaq has discontinued that feature feature. I found an alternative way to add a note to add a note to that section of the video. Thanks for your comments.

Yes. nice explanation but it think it should be in a range of 3.40 - 3.48 (as it is +- 0.04 and 3.44 is the average value)

Hello is this as per NABL guidelines ? and what is the difference between Standard Deviation, Uncertainty, Acceptable error and Tolerance ? In this video you explained uncertainty for 3.40 is ±0.4 is this also the acceptable error limit. I also want a clarification on all this parameters. Thanking you, Awaiting for your reply.

@@CALettsomePhDPE Uncertainty and std are not the same thing: Uncertainty takes into account the std deviation and not the other way around. which means they are directly related, but they are not the same. I work with wind conditions and when calculation the uncertainty of measurements you need to take into account, the range of the measurement equipment, the std of the samples recorded, etc. Hope that helps, surprised you considered those are the same.

Dear, shouldn't we write the final answer as 3.4 instead of 3.44 since the uncertainty has one sig fig. ?

No, the result and the uncertainty should have equal number of decimal places: 3.44 +/- 0.04. Another examples: 5.3+/-0.2 ; 5.300 +/- 0.225

In few books, in the denominator , n is there instead of n-1 .
