If you want to help me with any of my projects I have setup www.paypal.com...

In this video I calibrate a Technics 1210 with a cheap multimeter using the frequency function. First disconnect the pitch board and set vr302 to 2.7K while the pitch lock is on. Then reconnect the pitch board and use the frequency function of the meter to measure TP27. Set Vr301 to 262.08 or as close as possible with your meter and that should be back to factory settings. Looking at the video while editing and I should have set 262.1 instead of 262.0 as this would be closer to the .08 needed.
I used the VICI VC99, but any multimeter that can measure frequency will work. Check out EEVblog for guides to multimeters.

Mk2 have a misprint as a result of a printing error. +- 6.4 is where the top dots should be still. Hence all mk5 and newer have the 6.4 written correctly on the plynth. Great job, you calibrated it perfectly.

5:00 By choosing 262.0 your +/- is potentially at a maximum .08 off instead of setting it to 262.1 which could have at maximum been .11 off. You made the correct decision. If you would have chosen 262.1 there's no way to know if it's 262.10 or 262.19, you would have been in the same situation but a potentially worse one... because math. If your multi-meter only displays to the tenth decimal go with 262.0. :) I noticed your meter is on the auto ranging function. Some meters will allow you to change the decimal place but you must take it out of auto ranging mode. Great video! I don't have technics but it was still a very interesting video and I'm sure it will help a lot of people out there to see how to calibrate it the proper way.

Thank you for all your videos. I was dj for several years but quit 20 years ago. My son has grown up listening to all my old cds and wants me to teach him. I told him I would teach him but insisted he learn really mix on his own before flexing the tech of today. Went out and bought 2 used 1200’s and they were completely jacked up. They were the kind of decks that you see dj’s in clubs throw their arms up and walk off. On BOTH I had to rewire the arms, replace the RCA PCB, disassemble and clean the pitch’s, and calibrate. You alone got me through all that, other than finding a clear answer on where the black wire that goes into arm ground. It may be in one of your videos. I just didn’t find it when I needed it. Other than that, you got me from having 2 worthless turntables that seemed to have been in clubs for 30 years, to 2 perfectly working turntables. Now I just need some 12” skins and I’m all set.😂

I have Gemini PT2400 and wanted to calibrate the pitch as to achieve neutral speed you need to move fader to nearly +2%.Sadly I can not find a pot near main pitch fader.I did clean up pitch fader but no luck. There is a pot on on the motor board, no changes to pitch if you move it. I may try to solder some pots to fader with different values and see if I can tweak it up.

Really good tutorial bro but i am facing a problem for a month now that no one can help me. I own both a 1200 mk2 and a 1210 mk2 for 2 months. Everything was ok till the moment i decided to clean up the faders. I followed every step of yours with lubricants and contact cleaners. I measured the ohms 2.7 with a multimeter i owned and i put the fader back. I play with traktor timecodes and guess what. When the normal speed to a track was + -1 for example a track that is 122 bpm with timecodes appeared 121,98 or 121,99 at 33rpm something like that which is normal. Now the speed is not as stable as was. I mean that now goes + - 0,05 and is not so accurate that is was before and when i go to 45 rpm it goes + - 0,15. This happens to both turntables. I tried to measure the frequency i put it to hz measurement but it doesn't count. I changed 2 multimeters with hz option. Nothing! I tried to adjust the VR 301 manually according to the dots but the speed is not stable as it was. I am going crazy really because I spent too much money. Can you help me please? I would appreciate it if i talk directly with you with some way.

Thanks for a video I got new pitches installed, both new and seems good, +6 stationary on both and 3.75 not 3.3%, happy with that, But around central area is totally mess if i move to negative side it at the beginning moves to positive and then goes down to negative, about 1.5% is opposite when it switches to right side, to make clear, reduce speed moving up fader but instead pitch increase and at the point of 1.5% it does reduce speed! On both new pitches same problem! Does it makes clear and how do you deal with it?

Hi, even though you set the center to 2.7 what are the dots like when you move off center by a small amount ? I do not know any other adjustments it's just the two so perhaps some other passive components is slightly out of spec on the main board. Is it the same on both decks ? if so then it could also be the way the carbon tracks on the new pitch are setup.

Hi! I know it’s a noob question however it’s not mentioned (or at least I didn’t catch) where you have set the frequency potmetre to when adjusting V301. I have seen previous videos where it’s been set to 20k upon doing it on the pitch itself at the OHM area. Is that correct? Reason I ask because my reader is giving me ridiculous values, 7.805 kinda stuffs... As Im not a technical genious I guess I have done something wrong. Thank you!

Hi. I have the problem with the double zero. With the pitch at zero (and the LED on) it turns perfectly, when i accelerate with the pitch in the Moment that the led turns off instead of going faster, the turntable slows down to return to a new zero on a value of about +2.5. It holds the +6 and +3.3 very well, a little less the -3.3 but it is at acceptable levels. Searching on the web I found various tutorials to solve my problem, the point is that when I connect the multimeter to the pitch (obviously disconnected from the turntable) I have an X value, and going to modify the VR302 trimmer that value should modify right? To me it remains fixed and constant. The tests I have carried out are the following: I have completely replaced the pitch, putting the One of my other turntable, and it works perfectly, so I rule out problems with the motherboard or others stuffs of the turntable. With the Multimeter attached to the Brown and Red of the pitch (disconnected from the turntable) I tried to move the pitch fader and the value changes (so apparently the fader is good) but with the same configuration by acting on the vr302 the value remains fixed and constant (so apparently the vr302 doesn't work). At that point I connected the Multimeter to the vr302 and rotating it the value changes, so apparently it is good. I am also going crazy because if there was something to replace I would not know what specifically, and with the times that are running I do not want to spend more than I should. 😬 Sorry if I wrote a lot but I hope I have explained the problem well and what tests I did.

@@aa-jn3ks It is fine. Analogue pitches are difficult to be "perfect". Many factors can contribute. What you want is for those middle dots to move smoothly forwards ...then stopping.... then backwards with smooth movement of the fader. If you want perfect pitches, you have to go MK7s and up... which are digital.

what do you mean it only went to 2.22 ? the pitch are 0 - 20k so only going to 2.2 would be very bad. Have you cleaned the adjuster on the pitch as well ? that can change the readings as much as the pitch so give that a full turns all the way to the min and max and if you have deoxit a spray, perhaps that will help. have you taken the pitch apart and looked at the carbon tracks ? no amount of cleaning will work if the carbon it just worn out around the centre point.

What else could cause an incorrect pitch control? There is no 2nd zero point nor something else wrong. It is just a little bit out of range and this tutorial doesn't fix it....

HI, so is it ok at the +6%, but not at the 3.3% ? when you move it off the center click do the dots change smooth or is there a small jump. I think the 2.75 value is the problem and I would try 2.9k and then change the frequency until the 6% is correct again. If the resistance of the pitch is wrong because it's worn out or is dirty using the 2.7K value will not work. So try 2.9K and re-adjust the frequency if this does not work just keep tweaking until you get it as close as possible.

@@DJlegionuk Hello there, That sounds reasonable. I will try that. I can get all of the plus values to be accurate but especially the minus 3.3% not! The dots showing me minus 3.3% when the actual fader is only at minus 2.5%... I reached Plus 6% and plus 3.3% accurately to be clear. The jump of the dots when I move the fader off the center is quite smooth I'd say. Not very abprubt. I ve got one more safety question. Does it damage the motherboard or something else of the turntable when I would adjust VR302 while the turntable is switched onn? Did that accidently several times x)

@UC-dYJy1QTgHD6C-Qw5_rEOw this normally means the value of the 2.7K is too small.

@@DJlegionuk Can you please provide the links of both the multimeter, and all of the probe cables that you're using? That would be helpful because, as I'm watching your tutorial, I'm seeing that you're using about four probe cables. So where are the green ground and red positive probe cables connect from as well? I'm a bit confused, so if you can clarify where all of your probe cables are connecting from, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

@@crazycuts6891 they are just leads with clips on the end of the probes so I do not have to hold it in place.

do you mean when it moves of the centre click to a negative pitch ?

@@DJlegionuk yes, you have to fix the second zero point aswell. I just did the calibration on both my decks. I first did step one with HZ and plugged in deck. then unplugged calibration of pitch. but third step was when i plugged it back in, it had 2 zero points. so i just fixed that and both are perfect at +3,3 -3,3 +6 :)

@@SWAREDNB I am starting to wonder if they changed these settings on some mk2 models. On most of the recent decks I have checked 2.7k on the centre click and 262.08 does not work and is way off at +6%. I found they have around 2.9k and 261.08 and this is a lot better on the pitch range. I still prefer setting this up without the frequency counter and just adjusting both until I get it perfect, it takes a little longer, but seams to work a lot better.

@@DJlegionuk i think it's the pitch fader cause i feel when i use them, one of the pitch faders is a bit harder when it moves but seems a little more precise cause you feel every move. so, maybe there are two versions of mk2 pitch faders and maybe you don't know and have one from mk5 or so in your deck
