This is great, thanks @Premiere Gal for the walkthrough. Love the direction Adobe is going with these features, but I do have some suggestions: 1. re: text background drawing. Reels and tikok draw ONE background shape around the perimeter of all lines. all one consistently curved and connected shape. The "per-line" + padding technique demonstrated by Premire Gal here is good, and very close! But, it's still a workaround. would be good to get the real thing from Adobe as a formal setting. 2. Word-by-word captioning. the ability to caption based on number of words not just number of characters. This is a very popular fast-paced captioning style. 3. Font / styling consideration on caption generation. Notice how @Premiere Gal set captions to cover 2 lines, yet several of them appear in 3, which she then had to go in and manually adjust. This is because Premiere calculates caption-length in isolation from true pixel-width of rendered text. For true pixel length accuracy, you must take into consideration font and styling. Why not do this by default? instead of characters per line, maybe it's "% of frame-width per line." 4. access to per-word timecode data. The fact that clicking a word in the transcription jumps the playhead to that point in the timeline perfectly tells you that per-word timecode data is indeed captured by Premiere! But you can't actually access it as an end user. "Export to CSV" gives you timecoded BLOCKS of text. This one may be in the weeds, but for advanced scripting and automation purposes, having access to frame-accurate, per-word transcription timecode would be very powerful. If you agree with any of these, I also added them to an "idea" post on the community forum. Upvoting may help it get to the product team. community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-ideas/4-requests-for-the-captioning-and-transcription-features-in-premiere/idi-p/13364705

Agree with all of these! As for 4. You can export the captions as a .srt file with time code data, if that will work in the interim? Is that what you meant by time code? :) Love these insights. This is exactly the type of suggestions we should be giving. Really great stuff 🎉
@videowizard_io
@videowizard_io Жыл бұрын
@@PremiereGal Re: 4, really just having access to ALL the data premiere generates when you click transcribe, which would include exact in / out timecode for each word in the transcription. Practically speaking, this would just be a more detailed csv, or json file. Like I said, it may be a bit niche, but useful for scripting.

This is awesome. I'm wondering if you know how to do the style of captioning in reels and shorts where the words pop in stacked in different sizes? I could always do this by animating different text boxes but is there a way of doing that with captioning? I could look elsewhere for the answer but I prefer your Galsplinations 😁

This was so helpful! Thanks again, Kelsey. One question: I tried to set up two different pre-sets so that the font color would change for a video in which two different characters are talking, but Premiere didn't seem to like the idea of using two pre-sets at once. For now, I went through and manually changed the font color for the second character, but I was wondering if there might be some setting with the pre-sets that I maybe was not aware of that would have allowed for this to be done in a more time efficient way. If you happen to have any insight into that, I'm all ears.

I think I may have found the answer to my own question. When first navigating from Text to Create Transcript, there is the option to set up Speaker Labeling to accommodate multiple speakers. The video I am editing at the moment does not have multiple speakers, so I will not be testing this out right now, but I hope that is the solution to the problem I mentioned earlier.

Hey Prem Gal. Great update vid. Was wondering since you have a closer relationship with Adobe team to perhaps leverage the fact of text styles to be applicable as a drag and drop which live in Libraries which can be shared much faster rather than have it live clunky in a premiere project bin. We currently have our captions settings options with x15 pre-sets. That stays hidden within the project bin as a template project which editors can duplicate from. However this becomes major pain if some point down the line some changes are required you have to update those respective projects with those settings. This would be eradicated if we made text styles as library files to push any updates across the cloud and people just have to drag and drop text style to override track settings
@PremiereGal
@PremiereGal Жыл бұрын
I like the suggestion. For now, you can export the style from the project panel (by right clicking on the style) and you can save it to your library so other team members can access. I’m sure others have suggested it. 👍

Hey! I wanted to ask you - I'm always really weary of updating Premiere to the latest version. In your experience, is it worth updating just yet? I'm still running 2022 and I know the newer version recently dropped. I just need the thing stable to do my work which is why I worry XD (also not sure if it changes anything, Im using Windows 10 64bit. I know a lot of the editors I follow tend to use Mac so I figured I'd add that)
@PremiereGal
@PremiereGal Жыл бұрын
Hey! So I’m still on 22.6, for some reason 23 won’t open for me (I’m on a Mac), I haven’t had the chance yet to reach out to Adobe to figure out what might be the case. But my two other editors on my team 1 on Windows and the other on Mac are both on 23.0 with no problems. Remember you can update and if it’s not working well, you can always revert back to 22.6, you can also keep 22.6 on your computer and have 23 at the same time.
