I love how Kuhli loaches tend to disappear in a planted tank. After a while, it's easy to forget they're in there, until they magically appear at feeding time.

They will swim like crazy sometimes, cruising up and down the glass for hours at a time. Mine go nuts after water changes.

@@TheDave333 I never seen them before doing some research on who could go in with a Betta and tbh I just want a huge tank with nothing but kuhlis! Natures little barometers are too cute! Why is this hobby so addictive…I want a tank room now! It’s nice to get back into fish keeping after 13 years.

It really is an addictive hobby. You know the old saying, "there are lots of fish in the sea" ? Well, that's why it's so addictive, there are just so many many fish !!! I like big tanks with lots of little fish, rather than a big tank with one or two big fish. My advice is to keep it simple. Single species setups are far less problematic than community tanks. And keep it inexpensive by using sponge filters rather than expensive canister filters, and filters where there are things to replace. Simple setups mean more time to enjoy the fish!!! :-)

Yes, sort of. It has a *nictitating membrane* that can come down over the eye. Sharks have something similar. Nice catch!!!

You are correct, and that can be said of most fish. Some like the Khuli Loach, are more tolerant than others.

@@TheDave333 That makes sense to me. Personally, snakes give me the heebie-jeebies. My son wanted an eel, and since I didn't have the proper tank for one, we got "Kuhli and the Gang". Now we really like them and have moved some of the bigger ones from the Guppy tank "Guptropolis" to our larger aquarium "Frank the Tank" (yes, we name everything, including our tanks)

Hi, that sounds like an interesting project. I imagin their patterns are unique like finger prints. Here's a thought, with a slight twist . . . Put them all in a white-bottomed container and take photographs of them from the top ( singly or as a group). It will give you a quick way of seeing / recording all of their patterns from an aerial perspective. The real problem will be catching them all !

Sort of. It's a protective membrane known as the nictitating membrane. Shark have a similar protective "eyelid." Very strange.

I found mine inside the canister filter! Surprisingly and thankfully it was still alive. I’ve covered the intake of my canister now with some fine netting.

My Khuli's (Pangio) have been happy for a year now and my water is very hard, My ph is 8.2. They live with a pea puffer and 2 Amano shrimp. I keep the water very clean with sand and plants. I only have 2, I found them at a swap meet, I want to get more but haven't seen them anywhere. I love these guys!

Most plants will do just fine. Java fern would work. It's inexpensive and easy to grow, but it grows slowly. Driftwood helps with hiding places.

Have you ever kept KIllifish? They are my favorite at the moment.

The Dave i watched your video, they are amusing, but local market is none existing. even if you get killifish, crickets will be a problem)

You could always start your own culture of white worms or grindal worms to feed the killifish. Or they will take flake food, but they may not breed without live food.

Big fish can be hugged, but they don't like it. :-D

Nice - they are very difficult to catch especially in a planted tank !

I had to empty tank of everything and catch them with a net & cup.

That's actually very normal behavior. Mine sometimes do it for days! A lot of the time, it's right after I do a water change. It will stop after a while. Their mating behavior is a somewhat similar.

You're very welcome. He should be fine, as long as the other fish are not aggressive. Kuhli loaches like to hide, and are a little shy, but it's always a nice treat when they do make an appearance. Be sure to provide places for it to hide.

the "Kholi Dance" is as majestic as it is random. As they age it tends to stop, but young once dance every day.

The same goes for Dwarf Puffer's and most salt water species . . .

I've never tried breeding them in large numbers for sale. Funny story with the catfish ! They do disappear sometimes, and then suddenly show up one day out of nowhere. . .

Provide lots of plants, smooth rocks, and driftwood. The more natural looking, the better.

Kuhli loaches are normally pretty shy and you don't see them very much, but every once in a while, they do this thing where they are out and about all day long swimming around like crazy! I've seen them swim around like crazy for days and days!!! It happens a lot when I do a big water change. They also mate in a similar fashion where they swim up and down for long periods of time, but this is done in pairs or in groups. As long as it's eating normally, I wouldn't worry too much. :-)

The Kuhli loaches seem to leave both the adults and their shrimplets alone. However, you never can tell what happens when the lights go out. . .

Having just one or two is fine, and that's probably what most people do.
