If you use chem lights in tactical or field settings you've probably experimented with a variety of ways to carry them. We think the best way is on keychain cables.
Keychain cables, when routed through the eye of the chem light will slice through the plastic when it's time to deploy the chem with a simple pull. This method works better than using 550 cord. Additionally, by preparing your chem bundles on keychain cables, you can simply clip them into one of our Utility Hooks or a D Ring on your kit, changing out your loadout based on mission requirements.
Chem Keepers come with 6" keychain cables and high strength, UV resistant EPDM rubber bands, sold in pairs, five packs, and ten packs.

You should cut that extra plastic off the chemlight. Get rid of the unnecessary hook and it will make pulling it off the wire keeper easier

For professional set up, I cut the little hook off and a little slit close to the hole. Much quicker for removing your chem lights but also still very secure. I find it quicker for placing them while doing certain types of CQB

Have you tried keychain cables? I think a little slit would make it even easier, but it's not hard this way. Cutting off the hook makes sense just to cut down on bulk.

Not yet, will be ordering them shortly tho. Seem better than my 550 cord I heat shrink and make a loop for them.

I like the setup! For us civilians, can you explain what Chem lights are used for?

They're really for marking and signaling regardless of civ or mil. TTPs will vary, but prepared civilians should know how to mark and signal as well.

On the packaging, it states to leave the light in the wrapping until ready to use. Does leaving them exposed hinder their performance?

Technically it can. Never had an issue with cyalume chems even if they've been out of the package for a while though. Best practice is take them out of the wrapper pre mission and then don't hang onto opened, unused chems for too long.

Another option, is small zip ties, tuck them and they break off.

Yup, definitely seen this method too. Still find the keychain cable way the easiest for prep and most reliable for cutting through how you want without ever accidentally dropping a chem you don't want to, which I have seen happen with zip ties.

Don't spend money on special equipment just buy some Para chord, cut it to like 10 inches, loop it through the chemlight's hole on the top, tie a square knot, and burn the knot so it doesn't slip. Then you put an S clip on your belt or plate carrier. Clip the Para chord tied to the chemlights into the S clip, and then you can use one hand to push down the S clip, slide out one of the loops of Para chord, Crack the chemlight with your hand and toss it. It's just Para chord, you can get 100ft for less than $10

Ultra violet light attacks the chemistry over time, eventually killing the product. Thats why we produce them in foils.

It does, and that's why we've talked plenty of times about prepping chems for missions and then changing them out. Use older ones for training if you want, but I'd never just leave a bundle on my belt for an extended period of time and trust them to work perfectly. That said, cyalume ones do last for a long ass time even with sun exposure.

Not for prolonged storage! It will ruin your Chem lights if stored like this.

Yup. That said, with Cyalume chem lights I've never had an issue with ones that have been out of the package even for a couple of months. Best practice though is keep them wrapped until you're setting up your gear for the mission then prep them. If they aren't used chuck them/save them for training and get new ones. Same thing as batteries...yea it's "wasteful" but you want to know your kit will work.

What we do is we trim off the top of the wrapper so we can prep the stick and then poke a hole in the cut wrapper and thread cord or zipties or whatever through said hole so they get protected by UV degradation
