I like to shake the LC while it is hanging, prior to casting. The idea is to ensure the ball weights are at their lowest point in the lure. This makes the lure fly like a rocket vs a helicopter. Great video BK, hoping to meet up again soon. You got me into LCs. I now have enough to decorate a Christmas tree. I still haven’t lost the pink tiger you sent me years ago.

So this didn’t necessarily help me cast, but it helped my head space immensely. I have been casting thinking I suck cause it isn’t going far enough. And then you stated the distance… I hit that often if not every time. Thanks man.

Right on.! Been waiting for this LC casting tip. What’s the minimum rod length you would try with a LC.?
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing 2 ай бұрын
Thanks Mike! There's no hard rule with rod length, you can probably go as short as 7' and be just fine. Obviously you'll miss out on some distance, but where we fish, distance (while helpful), isn't the end all be all.

I side arm cast my jerkbaits ! That said, where I fish ( Hermosa Beach ) a long cast isnt unnecessary as the bottom contour drops quickly from shallow to deep therefore the fish are close in during high and low tide. I catch 90% of my fish ( perch, corbina, croaker, halibut, and the occasional striper ) between 5-15 yards from shore 🏄🏼‍♂️🎣🤙🏻

I've fished with guys who side arm and they do great...Great example of everyone having their own style. And great example also of our SoCal fishery. Absolutely agree with you from personal experience that distance is not as important as nearshore structure. Just saw some comments from a few days ago from you, thanks so much for the positive vibes and the sub, really appreciate it. Tight lines!

Hi Ron, anywhere from one arms length to 2 arms length. As long as the connection doesn’t hit the spool, I’m good. Been running 20 lb braid and no issues with wind knots. Tight lines 🙏

Thank you for the video on how to cast a FM110. What’s your take on a 8’ rod to fish the FM110 over a 9’ rod
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Ай бұрын
8' is perfectly fine! Personally, I don't emphasize rod length for the SoCal fishery. You do gain some distance with longer rods obviously but personally I don't find that to be the most important thing. As long as the line and lure fits the LC110, you're good to go. Tight lines!

I’m seeing some braid tomleader knot comments here, but I just upgraded to braid and have been tying directly to my LC using the Power Clip and a loop knot. Should I be adding mono/flouro? Thanks for the casting video. I just noticed you try to land it behind the incoming wave, which I’m going to spend time mastering this summer. One more question: cherry berry or metallic sardine? Thanks for your videos, BK!
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Ай бұрын
Great questions - straight braid is very viable. However, one weakness of braid is hard structure so if you're fishing reefs or beaches with a lot of rocks, braid will slice through very easily. I use fluoro for the abrasion resistance only. Also, just a possible suggestion to consider - If you're using a clip, you can remove the split ring that comes stock on LC's...it would still be fine but not entirely necessary to be clip on ring on nose. Same goes for loop knot onto clip as I believe the clip would still help provide the action you'd be gaining with the loop knot. Thank you for the comment, Tight lines!

Do you find that you lose distance when casting a rod with a longer butt section? With certain surf rods, I feel like its way to long and it hinders my cast
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Ай бұрын
I haven't found that to be the case with this rod but that's a sheerly anecdotal statement. I initially didn't like the longer butt myself but I got used to it after a couple sessions. If I had the choice, I'd go with the shorter butt, but it's a non-issue for me.

How does the Okuma compare tot he Phenix for Lucky Craft casting?
@BenjieKimFishing
@BenjieKimFishing Ай бұрын
The Rockaway SP 10' M+ definitely gets more distance. Surprisingly, I find it more sensitive as well. Was not expecting that. Not surprisingly, it has much much better pulling power. I'd say the TRL has better overall handling and has a slicker, more finesse feel....still a great rod for sure, but also double the price of the Rockaway.
@vexedlamp5569
@vexedlamp5569 Ай бұрын
@@BenjieKimFishing Wow that’s really interesting. I was highly considering buying the Phenix one day because of how slick and finesse its appearance is. But my friend has the Okuma but as a Medium Heavy for striped bass and I was so impressed by its casting. Thanks for the reply.
